Suspension Likely For Mike Evans

September 18th, 2022

Mike Evans

The good news is Mike Evans got a great shot in on hated and dirty Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and it may have sparked a huge Bucs win.

The bad news is Joe is bracing for Evans getting a one-game suspension for the dead-ball blast on Lattimore. Evans revved up his engine and plowed right into Lattimore after the whistle, following a relatively minor cheap shot from Lattimore to Leonard Fournette.

Back in 2017, Evans brutally drilled Lattimore after the whistle in similar fashion and picked up a one-game suspension from the NFL.

Joe’s not sure how Evans would avoid another week off after today’s blast. Evans out would make it that much harder to beat the Packers next Sunday at The Licht House, Tampa Bay’s home opener.

But Joe’s fine with a one-game suspension. It happens, and if nothing else, it’ll help Evans get his body back to 100 percent. However, Joe sure wishes the NFL would suspend some of the referees in today’s game. Their miserable non-calls led to tempers flaring and the game getting out of control.

Without accountability, nothing will change.

    Loved it

  2. Vance Says:

Agree. This rivalry needs top quality officiating. Tons of no calls, missed and BS BS calls.

  3. Dreambig Says:

Your right on Joe, that blow up was 100% on the refs. Lattimore was draped all over our receivers all day. So may PIs not called. Congrats to Brady, Fornette, and Evans for having something to say about that.

  4. #8 Says:

D carries the O again. Imagine when both getting humming. Man I was so happy to watch Evans today. Awesome game.
    Suh.

  5. Miller5252 Says:

Evans blew him up in the back last time, where this time it was face to face after other shoving and fighting I’m hoping it’s just a time served. If Julio, Gage and/or Godwin play I wouldn’t be worried if he missed it. GB receivers aren’t very good and D will lock them down like the Cowboys week one.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

    Totally worth it.

Should get the gameball for today.

  7. Josh Says:

Referees were pitiful. Many horrible missed calls that definitely caused the whole situation. These refs should be reprimanded and never ref another bucs game this year or a single playoff game. Someone needs to look into a Donaghy situation with these guys as well. They shaved at least 10 points off this game.

  8. Cometowin2 Says:

Keep bringing the fire, Mike! Hopefully, if he does get suspended, we will have Chris and Julio back.

    Go Bucs!!!

  9. Bucsfan13 Says:

The Bengals offense is struggling against the Cowboys. Where’s the outrage? I told you the Cowboys have a good defense. Our offense have some struggles, but we’ve played some good defenses

  10. Gofortheface30 Says:

I loved it. Whether it’s starting a fight or finishing a fight, Tampa needed to show that THEY are the bully and they aren’t gnna let some trash from New Orleans get cute. Oh yeah, quick question – can Russell Gage run other routes other than a quick 5yd out? Jesus Christ. The Bucs paying 32 mil to use him as…what exactly

  11. steele Says:

Once upon a time when football was football, this was a clean shot. Good night.

  12. FrontFour Says:

If Mike gets the week off, so should Latimore. Bogus roughing calls against us in the first half with nothing on the Saints didn’t help.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Hope Mike’s suspension is not more than one game. I’m almost sure one is imminent though.

  14. Elita Vita Says:

The absolute top ref team must be officiating the 2nd Saints-Bucs game this year. League must step in and make sure of this.

  15. unbelievable Says:

    1000%

    That officiating was beyond trash.

If the refs did their jobs, there would be no fights.

But also, Evans taking Lattimore out was what caused the momentum shift to the Bucs. I’ll take it.

Love me some Godzilla ME13 !

  16. T REX Says:

Mike stuck up for Brady and got out some frustration.

    We need him though.

We have nobody after him right now so he needs to be smarter

  17. adam from ny Says:

    hopefully it’s only one game…

could be more for the same type of sh!t all over again

  18. Onetrickpony Says:

I vote for M.E. well done

  19. Elita Vita Says:

Mike’s defense of his team was important today. They might lose him for next weeks game but the incident helped with this team’s sense of cohesiveness. Now it’s on to returning home to win! GO BUCS!

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

If Brady would have just walked off the field after the play this would have never happened. Brady called that man B word he should have went at Brady not Fournette. Brady started all that and I know y’all never hold Brady accountable for nothing even when he’s wrong. And I also know y’all going to call me a Brady hater just because I don’t care who you are if you’re wrong your wrong . But Mike should have left that alone he was wrong as well.

  21. Infomeplease Says:

Good to see Perriman stepping up and making a big play!!

  22. Cobraboy Says:

Poorly called game on both teams.

  23. Infomeplease Says:

Oneilbuc, Lattimore was taunting TB12 about getting away with the hold!! That’s what pissed off LF and ME!!

  24. Doc's Take Says:

    Two Games suspension

  25. Chris Cotten Says:

    F the “Aints”

  26. Doc Says:

    Two games suspension

  27. Coburn Says:

I was surprised by the headline. Didn’t think suspensions were usually handed out unless fists were thrown… But I forgot about him getting one the last time. If so hopefully we get Godwin and Julio back.

  28. Bucsfan13 Says:

Burrow is struggling against the Cowboys D with a healthy offense. Would any of you clowns like to comment on that. The same clowns who called out our O last week. The Dallas D is really good! I’ve been telling you

  29. firethecannons Says:

and again I agree with Joe completely–the referees are at fault for this. They overlook the pi from the saints constantly and this is what happens when the refs are in the bag for the home team saints.

  30. Craig Says:

I hope he will be all healed up when he gets back, and can finish the season healthy.

He energized the team because he was protecting his QB. Lattimore was being a pewk and asked for something to happen, it did.

  31. Casual Observer Says:

Agree with Joe about a couple (one for sure) of terrible non-calls.

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

Lattimore bare handed Lenny right in the face. If Evans gets suspended than so should Lattimore.

  33. Natron Says:

This had been brewing over several years, Lattimore has played the Bucs borderline dirty for a long time. For some reason it seems he plays dirtier in the Superdome and gets away with it there, than when they play in Tampa…..We’ll see

  34. Francisco Guzman Says:

@Doc no way he gets a two game suspension. Then the nfl has it against the bucs. Bucs need godwin and julio back.

  35. orlbucfan Says:

Lattimore better get suspended. Not sure what fossil12 did, but Lattimore went on his usual act esp. around MaE13.

  36. Pancake block Says:

Son of guns, Ed hokule is atrocious at officiating

  37. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @Oneilbuc

I can tell that you never played sports.

Stuff gets talked all the time in sports.

Serena, McEnroe, MJ, Phelps, Ray Lewis, Marchand, Ali, Deon, Bonds, Rose just to name a few across sorts.

Lattimore threw first because he couldn’t take bad words from another player because he’s mentally weak.

Guarantee that if I was TB12 the next time I would pull a Shaq on Charles Barkley routine to Lattimore and ask him one question, “How many rings you got?”

Shaq shuts Charles up and makes Barkley angry every time he asks that on TNT, because Barkley and Lattimore have something in common in that they have never won a ring.

  38. geno711 Says:

League policy is simple for in game.

If any penalty happens during the game and the official rules that the penalty rises to the level of flagrant, then disqualification is necessary.

The league ruled that both Evans and Lattimore’s actions rose to that level.

To me the difference between 2017 and this year was that Evans was on the field for the play this year where in 2017, he was off the field and charged on.

I am not saying that makes a difference though. The NFL commissioner office gets to decide on suspensions after the game.

  39. Darin Says:

The Pack with ballerina at QB don’t pose an issue in Tampa. Enjoy your day off Mike!

  40. Daryl Green Says:

I almost started crying, when the fight broke out.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤙🏾👊🏾❤️

  41. D Says:

Exactly. I about lost my voice yelling at the refs through the TV. They instigated the whole altercation by allowing Lattimore to hold on almost every play. He has been doing this since his rookie year and always gets away with it. At least they finally got Michael “push off” Thomas for his constant offensive PI. He usually gets away with it too.

  42. ocala Says:

One of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. Phantom calls, missed calls and bad calls.

  43. Ash Says:

@bucsfan13 I was saying the same thing thought the Dallas defense was legit others didn’t think so.

  44. captivajim Says:

Hokule was the same ref in the NFC championsip game against the Rams…. he’s the one who penalized Brady 15 yards for complaining about a bleeding lipfrom a hit to his head. he & that crew should be broken up, or fired-but that never happens..

  45. SKBucsFan Says:

This wouldn’t have happened if the refs did their job and called pass interference against Lattimore on that play. It’s a shame ME13 may have to sit a game. But that hit was a thing of beauty! Keep up the intensity.

  46. Saints Fan Says:

Looking at these comments makes me think that we were watching 2 separate games. The refs screwed the calls for TB in the first half, but they overcorrected and gave out 10-15 horrendous calls against NO. Problem with the NFL is no accountability for officials. This should’ve been a good game but was ruined on both sides by the refs. And Mike Evan’s should be suspended for 5 games, he has a history of fights and if the league let’s him off with 1 week suspensions he’s just going to continue. Cant wait for the rematch!

  47. Crickett Baker Says:

I am thinking they will fine them and not suspend them. The refs should get the suspension.

  48. Oddball Says:

    What Munch said.

    Worth it.

Evans knew what he was doing.

  49. Bucsfan951 Says:

O’Neil says “And I also know y’all going to call me a Brady hater”

No, you’re just a f*g for your entire comment!

  50. J Ghotier Says:

💯 agree w/ everything you said. Both Mike and the no adjective can describe “Refs” today….that was some other level of WTF today

  51. BucRodgersBDBDBD Says:

I think Brady was moping around the first half. That fight was exactly what we needed. We were about to lose that game. Dude was talking trash to Brady on the way by. Brady had a choice be the better man and keep walking or be an NFL Player, a competitor & talk smack. It all worked out for him but he’s Brady & it usually does. That pumped our already hot defense up and they kicked it into 2002 mode for a half.

I missed old school smash mouth football. Great D! Great game! Go Bucs!

  52. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Ash. The double standard by the media with the Bucs is annoying. Bengals suck in the red zone today! The media were all over us last week

  53. SufferingSince76 Says:

The league will do nothing about the officiating. They have their favorites and the Bucs aren’t on the list.

  54. Jack Sparrow Says:

Come on guys, a suspension gimme a break! it was just a little nudge by Evans to Lattimore and Lattimore just flop big time.

  55. D-Rome Says:

I agree with you on the refs Joe. They failed to control the game with their lack of consistency.

  56. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    I hate to hear that.
    But I LOVE Mikey.
I think he thought Lattimore was coming after his QB… from his vantage point.

That hug of Tom after the game, in the tunnel… “I am sorry that I got kicked out. I just got your back, bro. I appreciate you.”

That tells me everything I need.

I go to battle with THAT guy any day of the week.

  57. Bucco Bruce Says:

Love Evans Definitely in my top 5 all time favorite Bucs. As to the refs, this always happens in NO and more so to the bucs especially during nfc south games. That said we won so stick it Saints!

  58. Aaron Says:

He’s a crybaby just like Shady brady

  59. LakelandSteve Says:

One of the worst officiated games I have seen in a long while. You could almost smell that fight coming. Evans was the most valuable player and should have gotten a game ball. That was one of those we ain’t taking this crap any longer hits. He’s absolutely getting suspended. Not sure how we win next week without him unless Julio plays his ass off.

  60. stpetebucfan Says:

Wasn’t O’Neill one of the biggest JW nuthuggers? I can see why he is upset.

So O’Neill just do this….”Check yo sheets” and after that you can FHITP.

  61. SOEbuc be Says:

Secondary coverage is killing it with not many flags against them.

  62. MElovesbooty Says:

I told all 3 dogs He gone throw a pic just you wait. Boom! Tree a dem. Light datvfire ME

  63. BucsFan81 Says:

As a Bucs fan who cares if he is suspended it was worth it. He can rest his hammy for another week. One thing I am learning about the 2022 Bucs is they are tough and won’t be pushed around. We are going to need that toughness against the rams and in the playoffs.

  64. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucfan – Why are you using the term ‘nuthugger’? You’re a 91-year old man and if the nursing home catches you using that language online they’re going to take away your computer time.

    ———————————–
No, we/you weren’t. This ref nonsense has been around since the old NFC Central. I’m proud that the Bucs did their damndest to keep tempers in check. And if ME13 has to deal with game suspension, so should Lattimore.

  66. MadMax Says:

F lattimore!!!! Always been a POS running his mouth!!!

  67. Arealbucsfan Says:

A lot of y’all are soft, including @Joe. Non calls?! Psh yea rite, but a lot of bad calls? Yes!

  68. David Says:

    Lattimore deserves that
    Every
    Game !

It suuuucks if he gets suspended 1 game but it was almost like a hockey player getting in a fight and really giving his team momentum and energy.

  69. Arealbucsfan Says:

@saints fan. While agree with ur first half of ur comment, ur second half is completely idiotic. 5 games?? Gtfoh

  70. Arealbucsfan Says:

@joe where’s my first comment?! Jeez! How soft is errbody these days?!

  71. David Says:

It wasn’t just that the refs didn’t call some clear penalties. It’s that they know the history of these teams, they knew how physical it was right from the start, and they still didn’t call some clear penalties. That’s a failure on the refs.

Then on top of that they called 2 absolutely BS personal fouls against the Buccaneers in the first half and then 1 against the Saints in the second half. All 3 of those personal fouls were atrocious.

And as much as people complain about Darden here he, had a good downfield block for Scotty Miller and was being held by the back of the head practically and they called a holding on him! That was horrible.

The refs didn’t cost anyone the game one way or the other but they were absolutely abysmal and they did allow it to bubble up to a fight.
There should not be any suspensions.

  72. Cory Says:

Of course this a page for Bucs fan but yall are out of yall mind. Lattimore chirped at Brady which is a part of all sports every where. Fournette should have been ejected too, he shoved Lattimore and escalated it. Mike Evans is soft and gets mad Lattimore shuts him down every time so took another cheap shot on him. Twice now he’s done it. When Lattimore doesn’t even see it coming. Imagine if a defender did that to Tom Brady, yall would be saying he should be suspended 6 games.

  73. Woodenman Says:

Pretty telling when everyone talks about Refing man was it terrible and it did cause fight.

  74. Arealbucsfan Says:

The lot of y’all are so soft!

  75. I’m not tired anymore we just won a Super Bowl!! Says:

That was my issue with it Joe. If the refs get the calls right that never happens. I about lost my shat at home and throw my beer mug at the wall after that no call on Miller. We let it go once but the second time was utter BS. Evan’s is a passionate player sticking up for his teammates. I would have done the same thing after seeing that. Anywho we won. Go Bucs!

  76. adam from ny Says:

    bottom line:

mike was standing up for his quarterback…

you do not talk yang to his quarterback…

you do not flail your hand near his quarterback’s head…

We need him against the Packers, especially if Julio and Godwin can’t go

  84. SheridanClan Says:

As a Bears fan (so I have no allegiances and also don’t know what winning is), the only ejection should have been Evans, who came off the bench and hit pushed a player to the ground when that player didn’t see him. The pushes by Fournette and Lattimore was typical stuff you see after a contested play. Evans should be suspended 3 games, as this is not the first time he has done this.

  85. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    LMAO. Duly noted, Bears fan.

  86. roy seymour Says:

Evans should wear a dress.. He’s a sorry player

  87. Saints fan Says:

So much crying by Bucs players..Bucs fans just as sad as the players.. Pandemic is the reason Bucs won super Bowl ..it was given to them…Brady act like a child who can’t get a toy. .A real cry baby

  88. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @Sheridan

Evans hit Lattimore square up in Lattimore’s chest and sent him flying backwards on his rear end.

    Lattimore saw it coming.

ME13 did something wrong, but film don’t lie like you did saying Lattimore didn’t see it coming.

  89. CJ Says:

Proves again Evans is a coward. 1 catch 7 yards, so he goes after lattimore after the whistle. A TRUE COWARD PUNK TAKING A CHEAP SHOT.

  90. Browsing from DC Says:

He’ll appeal and take the suspension when either A) against a soft team or B) when more of the other receivers are healthy.

As.for CJ above, an anonymous keyboard warrior using so many CAPS isn’t someone I take seriously when discussing bravery.

  91. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @CJ

Wow, I can’t believe how wrong you are about ME13’s stats in the game.

ME13 had 3 catches for 61 yards, leading all Bucs receivers for the game.

There is one thing that ME13 has 1 of and that is a Super Bowl Ring versus Lattimore’s ZERO Super Bowl Rings.

  92. BucsCoolade Says:

    Wow.. juicy brady play.. lol

Look close.. also mouthing off was Ex.Coach Brucee Airians… I was surprised to see him on the sidelines..

Taunting is a penalty. What is walking down the field screaming at players.with your 45 year old GOAt QB ..?

Brady had angry game. In NE we knew the angry brady can motivate teammates and win games.

I can relate.. when golfing I sometimes wig out and slam a club.. then make a birdie. Gee who else did that? Tiger.

  93. BucsCoolade Says:

    Wow.. juicy brady play.. lol

Brady had angry game. News flash.. the angry brady can motivate teammates and win games.

  94. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucs@, correct how is what Latimore was doing NOT taunting. That guy is bullet proof with refs.

  95. Richie Says:

If Lattimore was ejected, Fournette should have been as well–he’s the first one to shove/make it physical. If you’re saying Lattimore deserved ejection for carping/jawing, then Brady certainly should’ve been ejected as well, since his jawing started it, AND Brady turned back from walking to the sideline and stalked toward opposing player (that is literally textbook violation of unsportmanlike these days.) What should have happened was that ONLY Evans should’ve been ejected, or Evans, Fournette and Lattimore all should’ve been ejected and Brady should’ve been given an unsportsmanlike.

Given the history of Evans cheapshotting this very same player, he should consider himself lucky if he only gets a 1-game suspension. Add in that Fournette has been suspended for fighting in the past, it is possible he gets suspended as well, especially since he’s the one who instigated the physical confrontation.

Oh, and for the record, I am a Packer Owner. LOVE the timing on this. (I eagerly await your well-reasoned responses…)

  96. BucsTim Says:

This is 100% on the refs, there was clear defensive holding Scotty had them beat and was held.

Lattimore was jawing at the bench and should of been flagged again for taunting, the #1 use for the taunting rule is for refs to calm down these situations.

LF, shoving Lat is nothing flag worthy that is just part of the game.
Lat taking a shot a LF should of drawn a flag, ME should never have jumped in but there is a lot of history there.

Anyone that says Lat did nothing wrong is simply a troll.

  97. Aaron Says:

He should the way he came from behind tells you he’s a sissy b**** been telling y’all that for years and crys like Shady brady

  98. Richie Says:

I never said Lat did nothing wrong. I said if he’s being ejected for taunting, Brady should’ve been gone as well, SINCE HE TURNED BACK AND STALKED BACK TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD jawing at another player. Textbook violation of the Taunting rules.

If Lat was being ejected for his shove of Fournette, then Fournette should’ve been ejected as well (the old adage that they only catch the ones who retaliate doesn’t really apply anymore, since the replay booth now reviews any incident immediately, so they knew Fournette was the first one to get physical.)

The only egregious act was Evans’. He should’ve been the only one ejected. Offsetting penalties on all the rest (and yes, that includes Lat, of course). OR, you have to pick your Bucs player that should’ve been ejected with Lat, either Fournette or Brady. (if it’s for the shove or the taunting).

Evans will be suspended, minimum of 1 game. If he had shoved any player other than Lattimore, he might’ve avoided it. I doubt Lattimore will get a suspension, but as an instigator, he might. I can’t imagine Fournette will get one, but he has been suspended for fighting in the past, which means it’s not entirely impossible. (League looks at history. Works a bit against Fournette, and it definitely works against Evans and Lattimore, especially Evans.)

  99. Listnfrmafar Says:

Richie, you don’t get thrown from a game for jawing unless you get flagged multiple times.
