Money-Earning Day For Ryan Succop

January 16th, 2022

Ryan Succop

Ryan Succop was an 83.3 percent field goal kicker this season, which ranked him behind three former Bucs kickers and 23rd-best overall among full-time NFL kickers.

Regardless, Joe cannot whine about Succop. He made some big kicks and his season was ok. But he has no deep ball (his longest field goal was 48 yards) and the stellar consistency that made him a 2020 hero faded.

Like all kickers, however, it’s all about postseason performance and Joe still remains confident Succop can recapture his form, even after slipping last week and missing a field goal.

Bucco Bruce Arians has spoken this season about how Succop’s challenge is to not yank kicks left. And the head coach was very pleased by Succop’s closing kick against the Panthers in Week 16. That’s when Succop drilled his 48-yarder and Arians noted that the kick had power as the ball pounded the end zone net.

Hopefully, Succop can channel that power he had in Charlotte today on a windy afternoon at The Licht House.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is having a Pro Bowl kind of season. He did not miss an extra point (Succop missed three) and was over 90 percent of field goals, including 3-for-3 from 50-plus yards.

  1. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Wouldn’t be surprised if Succop retires after he gets his second SB ring.

  2. SufferingSince76 Says:

The prior kickers sucked while they were here, for whatever reason. Good on them for playing better , but you have to ask why they didn’t when they were here.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Some of our kickers have struggled at Raymond James…..perhaps we gave up too early on some…….Cairo Santos & Matt Gay are examples….
    Succop is steady….but not spectacular.

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, anyone remember Marteen Gramatica ?
He quite being Automatica so we fired him.
Succop is steady and mostly reliable.

  5. Buddha Says:

Been a great and record-setting season But too many other teams are playing better, have momentum and may be hungrier. Buccaneers must rely too much on TB 12 and a great offensive line. Much as I want to, I can’t believe the BUCS are better RIGHT NOW than the 49ers, Packers, Bills, or Chiefs. BA has done a great job holding them together through all the injury adversity. But would take a miracle to win it all. Do you believe in miracles?

  6. Pickgrin Says:

With all the horrible kicking Bucs fans have had to endure over the years – I will take 25 out of 30 made kicks every year!

Hopefully Succop will be relegated to extra point duty today…. 5 or 6 of them…

    GO BUCS!!!

  7. Tim Says:

Even if Succop did decide to hang it up after this year, we’r still have the kid from Miami to hopefully take his place. He was good in college.

  8. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Just saw NFL Gameday showing Tom at the field and the field was covered so we shouldn’t have a bad field from the rain…just the wind could be an issue. That plays in to Tampa’s favor with the pass game!!
    LFG Bucs win 45-24!!!!

  9. Wild Bill Says:

Succup needs to suck it up and deliver today. Longer term we need knew blood with a very strong leg. The kicking game is often the difference in close games. Unlike Buffalo who likes to score tds on every possession and does not have to worry about two missed extra points! What a beat down for Bellycheck!

  10. LVMYBUCS Says:

Are they going to reschedule this game I hear Florida weather is really bad tornado bad?

  11. SKBucsFan Says:

Maybe Licht can find one late I the first round.

  12. Kenny Says:

    Buddha –

The LIONS beat the Packers. The JAGS knocked off the Colts.

On Any Given Sunday… miracles can happen. And TB12 has personally performed a lot of them.

    Keep the faith.

  13. Buddha Says:

Heads up Joe. Terrific front sports page article in today’s New York Times on Byron Leftwich. I am so tired of fans giving 100 percent credit to TB 12 and regarding Byron as a dunce. That the Buccaneers have a chance to repeat despite the injury attrition of four of its main playmakers really is remarkable. All Buccaneers fans should read this.

  14. The Coroner Says:

Maybe Matt Gay will be a Casualty on the Rams and will get cut. Then the bucks could resign somebody that they drafted and cut. Lol.

  15. Swampbuc Says:

He made game winners against the Cowboys and Pudriots, and I don’t recall him missing in the Bucs too-close win at Jets and made his kicks in the near collapse against Buffalo, So when it has mattered, he has been money. He didn’t cost the Bucs any games, whereas Matt the Gay’s misses cost the Bucs 3 and arguably 4 games in 2019. So of course now he’s kicking lights out for the Rams.

  16. Tim Says:

They’ve got Jose Borregales on the practice squad. He was a Groza award finalist twice (best college kicker), so I think he should be good if we have to use him next year. I think (hope) Licht learned his lesson about drafting kickers lol

  17. Beeej Says:

I remember O’Donoghue, I think he kicked for the Cards a decade after we dumped him

  18. DoooshLaRue Says:

Nick Folk doing well really pisses me off.

  19. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Connor Barth was the most accurate kicker Bucs ever had , statistically speaking. Matt Bryant was also very good and he should have never been allowed to leave for Atlanta.

  20. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Never forget the greatness that was Garo Yepremian , nor forget that Capece is Kaput as John McKay famously said.

  21. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Nor should we forget the “Automatic African” as his teammates called him , the Great Obed Ariri or the Nigerian Nightmare Donald Igwebuike , whose first cousin Godwin Igwebuike is currently a RB for your Detroit Lions.

  22. NE+bucs fan Says:

How’s those yacs for ME on his last TD catch😉

  23. NE+bucs fan Says:

Marteen gramatica tearing his ACL on a celebration,, anyone remember that, lol

  24. Crickett Baker Says:

Budda I read that NYT terrific article and thought about sending it to Joe, but didn’t know how.
