Adam Schein Isn’t Feeling It With Bucs

January 4th, 2022

Bad vibes.

The Bucs have been inconsistent this year. Destroy teams like the Dolphins and Bears, win slugfests with the Bills and the Colts, escape by the skin of their teeth with a win over the lowlife Jets and then lose to slop like the WTF and the slimy Saints (twice).

Which Bucs team will show up? You don’t know.

When furniture-tossing, bicycling-winging, tantrum-throwing quitter Antonio Brown goes mental, does jumping jacks topless in the end zone and jogs out of the tunnel to who knows where, well, can the Bucs overcome that?

It’s too much for Adam Schein.

The popular national sports radio and television personality, heard on SiriusXM weekdays and seen weeknights on CBS Sports Network, believes there are way too many injuries and weird characters for the Bucs to repeat as champs. No, even Tom Brady is mortal, Schein says, typing for NFL.com. He won’t be able to overcome this roster diluted by injuries and a star going AWOL.

I’m begging you: Please don’t take Brady’s latest game-winning drive for granted. I don’t want to hear that it came against the Jets. The Bucs trailed 24-20 with just over two minutes remaining. The roster’s depleted by injuries. Antonio Brown literally quit midgame. And yet, Brady drove Tampa 93 yards in nine plays — all throws — hitting Cyril Grayson (WHO?!) with a 33-yard dime for the game-winning touchdown. Vintage G.O.A.T.

All in all, though, the Buccaneers just didn’t play very well. And while they famously returned all 22 starters from last year’s title team for this season, the lineup’s in tatters now. Consequently, I’d rank the Packers, Rams and Cowboys ahead of the Bucs on the NFC side alone. There’s too much stuff — from health issues to defensive woes to DRAMA — for one 44-year-old man to overcome. It’s always dangerous to bet against Tom Brady, but I just haven’t felt it with this Bucs team all season.

Joe really cannot argue with Schein but it is not like the Bucs don’t have pieces to make a run, provided they can get healthy.

Given the running backs the Bucs (may) have, maybe they should try to go more ground-and-pound? The Bucs have the offensive line to do it. And while the Bucs don’t like play-action passes, they work wonderfully for Brady.

It will take imagination and brainstorming by Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich to figure it out. If he does figure it out, Leftwich is a head coach somewhere else in 2022.

If Leftwich still tries to throw deep on short-yardage situations, constantly run up the middle on first down and remain allergic to play-action passes and the Bucs don’t get past the second round, then Leftwich has a good shot of returning next year as the Bucs’ offensive coordinator.

Schein has always been a brady hater. Clown.

  2. Smashsquatch Says:

It’ll all come down to the health of Shaq, Lavonte, JPP, Lenny, Evans, Jensen…… Hard to disagree, but IF we can get our guys healthy in time to make a run I like our chances.

  3. Sean Says:

“…provided they can stay healthy.” Yup. And that’s been the problem since week one. Medical whack-a-mole. One guy gets healthy another get hurt.

  4. Cobraboy Says:

Hard to disagree with him. The Bucs have been the Poster Boys of Inconsistency this season.

I would blame it on health. It’s hard to win a championship wounded. The Buc’s advantage last season was health.

  5. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Nobody felt it last year for the BUCS except for the true BUCS fans, and see how they ended up as SB champs. Schein, your feelings does not matter to us.

  6. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

What was that?? Be more imaginative on play calling? Not throwing bombs on 3rd & 2? I thought they said it’s up to Brady to run play action. Well from all that then BL will be here next year because he won’t change.

  7. snookman Says:

11-5 last year. Who thought the Bucs would win after the Chiefs game? If you have Brady you have a chance………..odds are stacked against us but you can argue we will have an easier path this year to repeat than we did winning it all last year. Regardless 13-4 is a great season with exciting wins over Buffalo, Dallas, New England, and The Colts…………….that means something to me after 15 years of pure crap!

  8. CitruscountyBuc Says:

If our defense shows up like they did last year, we have a hell of a shot. It all comes down to how the defense plays.

  9. Robert Says:

He’s not wrong. We are far from dominate.

It’s a two edged sword….either our backups getting so much playing time works in our favor combined with getting healthy. or our starters are rusty from injuries and out of sync and we go down in flames.

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Schein makes pretty obvious points.

Tom Brady is absolutely the GOAT, but there’s only so much he can do.

If we had any D at all… maybe.

  11. captivajim Says:

there is no swagger .. last yr at this point the team had swagger.they were pumped ,eager for next opponent.. we barely won a game against the lowly , injured Jets !!

and we’re going to beat the Rams, Packers, Aints, Dallas ?? really ??

not sure if there’s something going on in the locker room??

  12. #8 Says:

Guys I’d like to let you know someone from Delta finally answered the lost baggage line after being on hold for 6 hours (I am not exaggerating).
For this reason, I feel I am due a favor from the universe & that something is the Bucs heading into the playoffs healthy & on a roll.
    #8 comin!

  13. Perimeter Blocker Says:

It is simple TB12 IS the GOAT and MVP. He elevates all who play on his team.

  14. PhillyBuc Says:

Brady won meaningful games in NE with less talent than he is surrounded with now. Schein = know it all troll loudmouth who never played a team sport in his life

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

.We sustained some injuries in the Jets game along with the loss of AB……Rojo, Vaughn, SMB……we’ll see how they heal…..if we can get Shaq, JPP, LVD & Fournette back…..we will have a chance…..if not, we won’t.

Yes, the Bucs are inconsistent……but we still have a healthy Oline & Brady….anything is possible with that.

  16. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

A lot of moving pieces are going to determine what we do. Who comes back, how they play, how we play without AB, and home field. Honestly if we get the 2 seed, I think we are in a much better position. With the 2 seed, I think we win the first two games at home and Dallas beats Green Bay in Green Bay. The 2 seed could give us home field. That would be huge if we get our team back.

  17. SufferingSince76 Says:

We’ll see how many of the walking wounded really want to play once the playoffs start.

This, that’s it and that’s all. Encompasses my biggest beef with Boron’s Leftwurst,

Just when I think he’s really arrived to the head coach level, he comes up with a gameplan and play calling script that yields a 9-0 home loss to the Saints. A shutout. That turd stain will not wash off.

  19. HC Grover Says:

I would not let that guy shine my shoes. What a ????

Me neither…but again, hope dies last.
let hope we pass the first PO game…🤞

  21. ModHairKen Says:

At this point in the season, every team has injuries. Every team has rookies who are not acclimated. The difference is leadership at the QB position and whomever the leader is on Defense. We know it’s Brady. Who rises up on Defense? Calling Ndamukong Suh. Time to make one final push.

  22. Francisco Guzman Says:

The packers have had 5 games they could have lost . They should have an L against Cleveland if the refs didn’t swallow their whistle. Stafford has looked awful in wins lately. The nfc is wide open but the Bucs have to score points.

  23. Bucfan81 Says:

I actually think the team will play better now that AB is gone. Dude is a damn distraction on every team he has played on. You notice how the teams play approved when that clown decided to go AWOL and walk off the field. The team stepped up and played a hell of a lot better. It also says a lot when Mike Evans was the only guy trying to stop AB from leaving the game.

  24. Ed Says:

Division winners have beaten the following teams that clinched playoff spots. Bucs have more wins vs teams that are qualified. That will change when the Saints-49ers situation works its way out.

    Bucs- Patriots, Eagles, Cowboys, Colts

    Packers- Bengals, Cardinals, Rams

    Cardinals- Rams, Cowboys

    Cowboys- Chargers, Eagles, Patriots

  25. Tye Says:

The Packers are so much like the Brees led Saints or the Manning led Colts: Great regular season team but struggle in playoffs…

The Rams are playing up to their opponents..

The Cowboys are up and down BUT find ways to win…

Cardinals aren’t as good as their record…

The Eagles lately have been finding ways to win…

49ers are relying on a qb with very little experience..

Saints have struggled to even score the past several games…

Only 2 teams I see as being a legit threat: Rams and Cowboys…
Hoping the others take them out and the Bucs play cleanup to the Super Bowl!

  26. Ed Says:

Forgot to mention Bills, so Bucs have beaten more playoff teams than any other team!

  27. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I did not see swagger in our team last year at this time. I did not know what to expect. Not so different in that way this year for me. We certainly came out of the game in Green Bay with it, though.

    Go Bucs!

  28. Eric Says:

this only gives me more confidence that the team will succeed.

  29. Ed Says:

If Niners can beat Rams Sunday and Cards win, then Rams will drop to top seeded Wild Card all the way from their number 2 position. The Niner win will eliminate the Saints also. Go Niners! Niners will get in as wild card.

No bigger game than Niners/Rams this weekend but its a 4:25 game so won’t get to see it.

  30. PassingThru Says:

It is what it is. The backup receivers have experienced very limited game time and practice reps with Brady, which will really limit the offense. Brady has taken less-talented teams deep into the playoffs, but he had developed chemistry with those guys over the course of one or more seasons.

Expect to see Gronk used heavily as the slot receiver. I wish we had a time machine to give him back his legs from a few years ago.

The defensive ledger is a mess. Shaq might not be able to suit up, ditto with Lavonte David, and of course JPP is a shell of himself. That’s three of your starting four LBs… and to think, we thought the defensive secondary was a mess.

But who knows, especially this season with Omicron outbreaks everywhere.

  31. Bird Says:

Anything is possible with brady at qb

But godwin And AB out …you know bradys 2 favorite targets out…it will take a miracle. Again mike evans is one of my favorite bucs of all time. But he doesnt go up and get balls anymore. When brady throws a jump ball or throws a ball for him to make a play , it usually gets picked. Doesnt even turn around some times or cant track ball? So brady looks to mike as 4th option. And thats not good

Now grayson i hope has moved in with brady cause they got two weeks. And im ok with dinks dunks to bell and hopefully Lenny out of backfield

But the real key is the defense. They have played what 2 good games this year. Maybe 3. That wont get it done. They have to play like last year playoff team. And everyone has to play. Time to play thru some pain/ injuries. A bunch of guys get paid a lot of money so sorry. Got to risk it in playoffs

With that said. I just dont see them pulling it off. Literally 20 contributors/ starters have missed more then a game this season.

  32. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

With the parity in the NFL this year, I think this could be a great year for the Bucs and the GOAT. The team should be fired up for the playoffs. I felt the coaching staff uped its game last year in the playoffs. We need that again. We need pressure on the QB with an injured JPP and we need to scheme the receivers open. We’ve struggled with both this year.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

Brady has said there is a way to beat every team in the NFL with the players you have.

If anyone is an authority on that topic, Tom Brady is.

Now he needs to, once again, prove it.

And, as importantly, the D needs to get really healthy and rise to the occasion.

  34. EA Says:

You who else didn’t feel it last year ? Steve Smith, how did that work out for him…

  35. Tackleblockwin Says:

I always find it amusing when talking heads explain to us simpletons that playoff caliber teams are not very good lol. Regardless of what happens in playoffs, it’s no cake walk getting there.

  36. Eddie Marz Says:

Who cares what this guy thinks. Some people expect Tampa to win every game by double digits. Their 12-4. Second best record in the whole league. Time to shut out the foolish commentators, who are never satisfied. If we win the next five games” one at a time of course” we’ll be Super Bowl Champs again. GOBUCS!

  37. Wesley Says:

After Sunday’s performance I’m not feeling it either.

  38. Wesley Says:

Leftwich isn’t changing, this offense is predictable, and has zero creativity.

  39. Listnfrmafar Says:

I can read the posts now if Bucs go one and done. Brady showing his age, he doesn’t want to be here any more, he shouldn’t have checked done so much, why did he go deep so much, he’s scared, he’s nervous, the whatever team has his number, blah, blah, blah. No one is going to say it’s because of a bad D and skelton receiving core.

  40. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oh and most of all, shatty plays.

  42. Roy T. Buford Says:

Good stuff Joe. The Bucs had their share of bad games last year as well. I don’t think they’re any less consistent this year than last year. And frankly I didn’t think they would make it to the Super Bowl. So glad I was not correct. Injuries are there biggest issue right now. Get David, Lenny, JPP, back and they are a force. AB or not, They are a better and deeper team thus year. Sucks not having Godwin but there are hungry guys giving depth to Gronk, Evans, Brate…and let us not count guys like Bell out. He may be the X factor this year that Brown was last year.

  43. mg Says:

Hard to believe the job security he has. Considering he doesn’t know schiff from sheinola.

  44. PhillyBuc Says:

    mg, lmfao

  45. stpetebucsfan Says:

It’s because Schein makes a classic mistake. Looking at what we haven’t had instead of we DO have.

Leveon Bell will be effective for us in the playoffs where it’s hard to get deep with safeties back keeping EVERYTHING in front of them.

We can get away with Fournette..who can catch…and Bell..who is perhaps the best pass receiving RB in the league. Both are decent blockers. They are both very effective runners with different styles…Fournette more powerful and bruising…Bell clever at timing the blocks in front of him and then taking advantage with a deft cut.

There is more than one way to win a football. Gee does Brady have any problem running a dink and dunk offense dropping the ball of to backs and smurf receivers and moving the chains?

I remember when Brady arrived everybody questioned his ability to get the ball deep in BA’s “no risk it” offense. So he’s proven he can!!! He still has targets…ME13 and Gronk are sneaky wiley vets when it comes to getting open deep and CG will be one of the fastest guys on the field. There’s 3 deep threats and two underneath threats although seeing Bell release and sneak down a sideline is always a possibility.

We have one of the best OL’s in the league. If JPP, Shaq, and LVD get healthy we also have a stout D. We’re in OK shape for the start of the playoffs.

Who is this dude and how is he different than a guy throwing out NFL talk under a username like BobbleButthead82 on Reddit?

  47. Rod Munch Says:

    It’s called injuries you moron.

The defense gave up 14 points because they were missing basically 5 starters, since SMB and Dean got there late and didn’t get into the game until the defense had given up 14. After they got into the game, the Bucs only gave up 10 more points for the final 3 quarters of the game.

  48. Izod Says:

The biggest reason I’d like to see the offense do well is that improves the chances of BL being gone next year.
