Injury Updates On Mike Evans And Leonard Fournette

December 20th, 2021

Injury news

If this comes to pass, Joe may have to break out a cocktail for lunch.

It seems the injuries to wide receiver Mike Evans and Playoff Lenny are not serious. In fact, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, both should return for regular season play and certainly should be a go for the playoffs.

Joe had a bad feeling that Evans’ injury may have been a nasty hamstring. Evans is a tough SOB and the fact he could not return to the game spooked Joe.

Playoff Lenny, well, it is never a good sign to be carried to the locker room. But the fact he ought to be on the field before the playoffs is very encouraging.

Cross your fingers, Bucs fans.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

Evans always has hamstring problems. Bruce doesn’t make players stretch before the games. He’s really gets out coached a lot

  2. Beeej Says:

Yeah, I’m sure a 10-year vet would not think to stretch his legs before game

  3. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Guess what, kids? The next three games sounds like a wonderful time for Keshawn Vaughn, Rojo, Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller Breshad Perriman and Jaelon Darden to show their worth for 2022. They’ll all get first team reps so there should be no excuse. I left OJ Howard off the list because he had about an 8 week audition when Gronk was hurt and never earned Brady’s trust.

  4. Adrnagy Says:

Im ok with the loss. I rather get the monkey off and gone before the playoffs. Rather lose yesterday than the home playoff game.
Ab. Evans. Godwin back healthy and use rojo more get get him on track.

  5. Jmarkbuc Says:

Well clearly Rojo is only good for 5/6 plays a game .. so are we gonna try and sign Adrian Peterson or something?

  6. Adrnagy Says:

I want rams first game in playoffs then packers

  7. Steven007 Says:

If hamstring problems result in multiple thousand yard seasons and touchdown receptions as it has for Evans, I’ll take them. Such a silly narrative. And for Christ’s sake, every player stretches before every game. Usually for a while. Constipated Pete, your aim is way off with your would be zingers today.

  8. Nate1111 Says:

Dont worry yall AB is coming

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Nate says Don’t worry? You’d better worry. Teams are right now as we write this, dissecting and anal-lysing what it is them Saints do so successfully to stop Brady dead in his tracks. And they will use it

“Evans always has hamstring problems. Bruce doesn’t make players stretch before the games. He’s really gets out coached a lot”

The Bucs were not out coached last night. The Saints had the better defense. That made the difference.

  11. BuccFannaticTopher Says:

Joe, why haven’t you talked about the pass interference calls?! I saw key downs on pass interference that were not being flagged during the game. I saw three to four different plays where especially on Rob Gronk.
Joe doesn’t waste time often on moaning about refs. Shaq Barrett routinely was being held, too. Heck, the Bucs might have only beaten the Bills because the Carlton Davis didn’t get a flag. And they might only have beaten the Cowboys because Chris Godwin drew a flag late. All sort of evens out over a season.–Joe
No flags were being thrown period and the Saints took advantage of it. They saw what they could get away with and they kept doing it. The refs took a backseat and didn’t want to make any calls! So you are to tell me that both sides of the ball played this clean without any penalties???? None!? Give me a break. Something was wrong last night and I don’t know who the main ref was but I never seen him before.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Also, Knowing he has hamstring issues, you would think Mike would stretch more on his own.

Some people have weak spots, the hamstring is Mike’s. I’d say he’s been more than worth it.

  13. KC Says:

    Any word on Lavonte yet?

  14. zzbuc Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai..

Please Don´t answer that guy…..Stupid troll!!!

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Out of all these players, Keshawn Vaughn, Rojo, Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller Breshad Perriman and Jaelon Darden the only ones I would keep are ROJO, Perriman and maybe Tyler Johnson.

  16. Bird Says:

I bet evans plays this week

  17. PSL Bob Says:

Adrnagy, that wasn’t a monkey on the team’s back last night. It was a gorilla, and it may have permanently broken their back. I certainly hope not. Gronk must have been drinking and smoking with Medicated Pete before the game. WTF?

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

If Rojo gets an illness after two plays in Atlanta, and is gassed after a few plays on a cool December night after not playing much all year … you don’t keep him, you cut him. Dude is a morale killer and a quitter.

  19. Winny Testaverde Says:

This is the watershed/turning point moment of the entire season. The beat down might actually turn out to be a blessing/wake up call. If not…they weren’t meant to repeat anyhow. Get well Godwin…that borderline kneecapper/cheap shot nearly cost him upwards of $100 million dollars. Yelp.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

The wake up call was against Dallas.

  21. PassingThru Says:

It’s time for a bit of house cleaning, in terms of the backups.

Scotty Miller is a one trick pony, and teams are aware of that trick: Do not cover him with a slow, outside CB. He’s only a credible threat on go routes. That’s not much of a route tree.

Darden keeps tripping over ants or something.

Poor RoJo, he gets gassed easily and has trouble maintaining focus on that first down marker. He’s truly special.

Keshawn Vaughn is struggling to get any snaps. And after last, that struggle will likely continue until his rookie contract expires.

  22. Joe Says:

    Any word on Lavonte yet?

If there was, you would have read about it on this here site. No reason whatsoever to hold back injury news on a playoff team in December.

Arians is expected to talk in about a half-hour. Hopefully will get an update then.

  23. Joe Says:

Joe, why haven’t you talked about the pass interference calls?!

Joe doesn’t like to use referees as excuses (unless it is a major call that swung the game). For Joe, that’s weak. The Bucs had many, many, many chances to put together a scoring drive that had nothing to do with referees.

The refs were not the reason the Bucs lost last night. The refs were not the reason the Bucs couldn’t score a point.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Evan’s is soft, he saw Godwin get crushed and took a knee. The last thing he wanted was to be the go to guy. I knew he would be back for Carolina to get his “1000” yards. He turtled again, he felt that hit and went 1 & done.

  25. Joe Says:

    Evan’s is soft

    Don’t be dumb.

  26. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I wouldn’t play Mike out Lenny until the playoffs. Let them heal up. We should be able to win a game in the next 3 and The saints will likely lose a game it Teri so the division title really isn’t in doubt. That said, we are out of the race for the #1 seed so it’s time to get healthy and ready for the playoffs.

  27. Jerry Says:

    Mike Johnson,
There is nothing to dissect. The way to beat Brady has been out there a long, long time. He doesn’t do well under pressure. You pressure him consistently from the interior and he will become flustered. The Saints did that all night. In fact they did it so much they didn’t even care about our run game at all. Their game plan was to pressure Brady on every single down relentlessly even if that means giving up some big runs. And they succeeded in doing that with just their front 4.

That is a problem. Because Leftwich seems to have no answer for it scheme-wise. And the OL hasn’t played very well the past 6 quarters. Opponents are working hard to shut down our passing attack with the 2 high safeties and taking away the middle. How do you counter that? You run. You run it down their throat until they are forced to respect the run. But we have struggled with consistency on the run game. And we don’t seem to want to be a run team. Teams are forcing us out of our comfort zone.

  28. Trey Long Says:

Saints clogged the middle and we kept going there.
Where is play action, sideline out routes? Make
D backs run until they tire. Play calling was awful.
Two Sunday night games w Saints 45 to 3.
Dismal waste of our very good D.

  29. Snookman Says:

Sami guys seem to like the understanding that there is no book out on any team. You need to have the players they can execute a plan the Saints have that. Saints are a bad matchup for us however I’m not scared of them the defense shoot me something last night. I think if we get right healthy and have to pay them again will beat them. Just like last year

  30. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Anyone else think
The Saints players were deliberately trying to hurt Bucs players?

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe, go back and look at first Saints game, 2nd Atlanta and Indy, he turtled in all 3 and I am sure there are others. To be fair I am not sure if he is instructed to in order to prevent injury. Take off your bias glasses and are we supposed to believe he makes one catch a comes up with a hammy right after his buddy just got his nuts handed to him? Oh and he’s okay to play next week? C’mon, ever pop a hammy?

The Bucs could use upgrades at RB and Returner, IMHO. Will they do it? Probably not.

    ^^^^^^^
No, IMHO. The hit on Godwin was legal. If they can’t tackle high and can’t tackle low, that’s flag football. What made you think any Bucs injury was intentional?

  34. Ash Says:

Get out of here with that Carlton not getting called for a flag Joe, diggs was pushing off as much as Carlton offsetting at best if you watch the film.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

    Evans is soft

Is that why he’s like second in the league in TD??? His NFL record shows he’s softer than chile con queso.

  36. Listnfrmafar Says:

SOE, didn’t say he couldn’t catch.

  37. David Says:

Pretty amusing how many people think they know better than an elite athlete. They apparently were with Mike Evans all day yesterday and saw that he never stretched once. Ridiculous.

  38. Biff Barker Says:

Hope the Jags want Leftwich. His play calling outright sucked.

  39. Aaron Says:

Losing Lenny is huge – we obviously don’t trust RoJo – this will work right into Leftwich’s ultimate game plan. Throw every down – don’t game plan don’t scheme anything. Everyone pick a route and let Brady sling it.

Evan’s didn’t hurt his hammy running a route. He took a low hit followed by another hit that spun him around and he landed very akwardly.

I’m still pissed that we just don’t do anything different against the Saints…you know they bring it every time we play them…they are very physical team. Some times you just have to tip your hat to the other team and move on…but our O has pretty much done nothing at home for 6 quarters. We need to start getting a more balanced offense and if you don’t trust RoJo in pass-pro…scheme and design around it..

  40. captivajim Says:

for the last 6 qtrs ,Bucs have scored 3 points.. If you add the OT period-we’ve scored 9 points….. in 100 minutes of football–we scored ONE touchdown..

and ALL that was WITH ME , CG , and Fournette…………………

  41. E.Vi. Says:

EVANS # 1 RECEIVER IN NFL. Dardead I think I can get a yard on returns instead of centimeters and me not scared to break a nail. Give me a break how is he still in the line up?? The guy goes backwards. And leftwitch play calling so predictable like Peewee football. there is no trickery ione game I watched for first few series was unbelievable they moved the ball downfield in a minute and scored.

  42. Steve Says:

Mickens averaged 15 yards and you trusted His judgement. Darden is not good at any part of the game.

    ………..

He can’t help it Joe. He is the second biggest idiot on the site behind Constipated Pete.

  44. Crickett Baker Says:

EVI I agree with everything you said. I am totally OVER Darden.

  45. Listnfrmafar Says:

SB there you are, I rebutted your last post but no response. It’s apparent now it’s the hole beard and tattoo fetish you have. Evan’s took a knee yesterday. He knew they were dirty and he was next. No shame in it, Bucs need him to finish out the season.

  46. Ed Says:

Were the Saints trying to injure Bucs players? Not being sarcastic, I honestly don’t know. All I can say, is I have watched football for 50 years,
and I can’t recall ever seeing probably the top 3 offensive players on a team go down in 3 quarters.

  47. SB Says:

Nobody Listns to you. Probably the reason for your insecurity complex.

  48. brooks Says:

    season over

  49. Man Child Says:

I hate the F@$king Saints; not sure if I’ve said that before on these boards?

  50. Tampa5 Says:

Rojo will be ready to step up. The whole plan was to have him have fresh legs for the playoffs. AB is back a huge weopon with a point to prove. We have 3 games I see us!winning them all we may not be number one seed but we will be the number one team again back to back.
