Antonio Brown Returns To Tampa Bay

April 28th, 2021

Antonio Brown

Who led the Bucs in most targets per games played last season?

That’s right! It’s furniture-hurling, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown.

And now it’s official. He’ll be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer in 2021. NFL Network broke the news this morning. See the Tom Pelissero Tweet below.

Good money for Brown, who recently settled his civil rape suit.

Emmanuel Sanders and Sammy Watkins, two lesser receivers in free agency, among others, were getting in the neighborhood of $6 million on one-year deals for 2021. So Brown can match or exceed them if he hits his incentives and behaves.

The odds of the Bucs drafting a receiver tonight just plummeted.

    What?
    That is a pleasant surprise.
I was really thinking it wasn’t gonna happen.

    JL magic!

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

    Crikey!! Gadzooks!!!!!

  3. Mort Says:

I hope they have him return punts this year.

  4. Bradinator Says:

It’s a good deal for the Bucs. He gets in at Training Camp and fully ready to go come season opener. Should be more impactful than he was last year. It’s a luxury grab at this point. I say we still draft a WR between rounds 4 and 7. That first/second rounder mocks are out though.

  5. ncbucsfan Says:

Bravo! Bravo Jason! I approve this move. Now lets build the trenches and get a CB by this weekend.

  6. Bruce Blahak Says:

yes, to punt returner! he’s being wasted in that regard. This team is downright scary! Enjoy, we may never see a deep lineup like this again!

  7. ClodHopper Says:

Very nice. Well done to everyone involved. Looks like that settlement was a big deal.

  8. Bruce Blahak Says:

are they paying under the table?lol…
how are they signing all these guys?

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Great news…..had to happen for AB before the draft….good deal, both ways….

    Incentives?…..well, there goes Rojo’s 1000 again!!!

  10. james west Says:

jason licht, you are outstanding my brother, the job you have done is remarkable, i commend you sir

  11. lambeau Says:

Emminently reasonable compromise between market value and the risk inherent in hiring a lunatic–but what a talented lunatic. TB12 strikes again. Go Bucs.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yep….where is the money coming from?…..Atlanta is shopping Julio Jones due to cap problems…..but not us!!!

Everyone keeps forgetting our 6th receiver Justin Watson who is doing a very good job on ST…….if we draft a WR it will probably be one of our 7th round picks, a KR/PR who probably won’t make the team.

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

The odds of the Bucs drafting a receiver tonight just plummeted.
    _____

And the NFL moved the draft up one whole day!
Man, this just keeps getting better.

    Thanks Joe.
    😀

  14. Cobraboy Says:

    The. Entire. Band.

    Great news!

Now trade the entire 2021 draft for double the 2022 picks! (j/k, but what holes need to be filled?)

  15. Bird Says:

Brown knew that come draft day his value would probably be zero if bucs went for receiver with high pick

    Cool beans !
    He got decent bucks too
Im sure incentives are probably a high mark to obtain but great motivation
    Bucs officially locked and loaded

  16. dmatt Says:

Will someone please tell me what have Justin Watson done for us lately. He’s just taking up a spot. Let’s replace him n bring in Larry Fitzgerald to get him a ring before he retires.

  17. Pewter941 Says:

    So were set at receiver?

  18. Elita Vita Says:

Will Bucs go edge rusher in 2021 Draft? Will they find a new DT to eventually replace Suh? How about a star RB or a back up QB to train in the later rounds. Exciting times here in Tampa Bay thanks to Tom Brady’s play and his attraction of other star players. Fantastic Kudos to Jason Licht Nd Bruce Arians!

  19. Robert Says:

Great new. and it seems fair to both sides

  20. Drebucsfan Says:

Great morning and what a great feeling to be a true Bucs fan! Rejoice

  21. ocala Says:

    I am with Mort.
AB and Scotty Miller should be the punt returners.

  22. The Red Mirage Says:

    Meh

  23. Drebucsfan Says:

How does Anyone feel about packaging some picks together to move up for a starting cornerback..I.E. Patrick surtain jr

  24. Hope springs eternal Says:

Band of brothers? So the super bowl team remains intact! Now a focus on some key backups in the draft. If Brady stays healthy the Bucs are very real contenders to repeat. Need to beef up both defense and offense line backups in this draft. You just know that opposing teams are gonna focus on getting to Tom.

  25. Aceofaerospace Says:

    Told you.

  26. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

The odds of the Bucs drafting a receiver tonight just plummeted. – Joe

Don’t worry Joe that will not happen tonight. I guarantee it!!!!!!!

  27. Bucfan81 Says:

I hope we focus on the defense in this draft. If we draft any offense it needs to be on the offensive line for depth.

  28. Wesley Says:

    He’s a douche but okay.

  29. SB~LV Says:

    The plot thickens
The draft is clear as mud
Just they way Jason is playing his hand
    Cool hand Licht !

  30. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Another vote for him returning kicks. I was hoping that would happen when we signed him. Our return game was pointless and so is whatever that kid’s name is taking up a roster spot.

  31. FSUbucsfan28 Says:

The end of this article had me thinking it was Thursday already. Changing the hashtag #SignAB to#SignedAB. #GoBucs

  32. Waterboy Says:

I am confused as to why Bucs would want this deal announced 1 day prior to the draft? You just let all other 31 teams know you are not drafting a WR in the top 3 rounds- why not keep them guessing and just announce it on the third day of the draft! I like the signing but the timing sucks!

  33. SteveK Says:

Outside of Shaq, AB and Suh were the two FAs I was hoping to get back. They’re future HoFers and we are so lucky to have them, their experience and skill sets on our team. Beasts.

Both of these dudes work really hard and are conscientious of raising the play of others around them. Go Bucs!

  34. delson Says:

    *jameis leaves the chat*

  35. Capt.Tim Says:

We now hve the most talented trio of WRs in the league.
No defense in the league can plan against, or stop our passing game.
BA, JL, and the Glazers are absolutely the best in the League.
We also have 3 talented young players behind them.
No, I havet given up on Justin Watson.

In a 4 WR set, Scotty Miller is almost a lock to have single coverage. Alot more long TD’s for him.

Now, we sign Blaine Gabbert(hes better than you think).

Draft Rotation help for our DEs, Center/Guards, and DTs

I honestly believe that this in the most talented team in NFL History.
Even better than Bart Starr’s Packers, And Bradshaws Incredible Steelers.
Good times to be a Buc’s fan.

    Now, time to Prove it.

  36. Hodad Says:

The band isn’t quite back together, we have not resigned our back up QB from last year one day before the draft. Anybody but me think that’s a sign we might be drafting a QB? What we have now is a 44yr old GOAT, and a 31yr old who’s never played a full NFL game! Tom is coming off a knee clean up, might not be throwing till June. Teams usually take 4 arms to camp, we only have two. Picking a QB as of now seems to be a position of need don’t you think Joe?

  37. Brad Says:

Seems like they just waited for the off field stuff to settle.

  38. mike Says:

Another unbelievable offseason. Not as great as last year, but to bring everyone back…wow! At this point I guess you can’t draft an rb or wr in the 1st three rounds, but everything else is open

  39. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Definitely Meh…

  41. 813bucboi Says:

told you clowns AB will be a BUC!!!!!

NOW GO STACK THE TRENCHES JL!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  42. Ben green Says:

He’s a great insurance policy, and another wubby for the goat. This was a done deal after he settled. Now the seasons not over if Godwin or Evans goes down for significant time. Good move

  43. Greg G Says:

This is awesome news! AB has a very good chance at being our leading receiver next year. And just as importantly this also means he won’t be playing for Seattle or KC, or some other contender.

I assume we’ll be getting news later today about another restructured player. Or even better, a Ryan Jensen extension!

    Lmao

  45. Mike Says:

Fan freaking tastic news! Bucs are loaded across the board! However, the Bucs will still draft a WR. You can bank it. The draft is loaded at WR and the Bucs are bargain shoppers. Probably not until Day 3, but if they have a guy in the 5th or even 6th round that has a high grade, they will not hesitate.

  46. Casual Observer Says:

Fantastic set of wide receivers. Best in the NFL – maybe in the last few years. What an array of targets for the GOAT. Great signing.

  47. Cainishere Says:

Smart move. Well done. Shows you what a little preserverance can do.

  48. Dean Bucs fan for life!!! Says:

Great move with AB. We’re set for a run at #2! Now draft for depth and the future! Jason Licht has really shown his experience in drafting and building a winner! Lets go get it! GO BUCS!!!

  49. 6throundpick Says:

AB and the Bucs did well. Great news! Big cheers! Work to do…

  50. Bucanero Says:

    BRAVO! Go BUCS!

  51. Stanglassman Says:

Tomorrow night not tonight. You had me thinking it was Thursday already for a minute.

No reason not to draft a Wr if the right guys fall to them. It’s time to upgrade Justin Watson and I believe the Jonathan Franklin experiment has run it’s course.

  52. Statguy Says:

Well the bucs would be draft any position tonight either seeing as the draft starts tommorow lol.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

…who recently settled his civil rape suit.

So now the NFL can suspend him for the season the Bucs are paying him for? Yep! Expect that to be announced around the start of training camp!

  54. Hodad Says:

We are not loaded across the board! The QB room is nearly empty. Our back up right now hasn’t played meaningful football in a very long time, and has never played a full NFL game. I’d say we’re paper thin at QB with a draft that’s loaded this year, but not next year. Bucs almost have to draft a QB early as first round now.

  55. MadMax Says:

Welp, all of these one year deals….man are we gonna be hurting after this season. I mean its awesome going for back to back, i hope we load up in the draft. Get her done Jason….still want rondale moore.

  56. Youngbucs Says:

    🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥we not playing

  57. SOEbuc Says:

TRENCHES! And a CB to battle for the number two spot or provide depth. If it’s any coaching staff to scout a DB it’s this one.

I don’t know if we’re gonna trade down in the first. I know we’re not gonna trade up. Creed Humphrey on offense or Joe Tryon on defense.

  58. Swampbuc Says:

    STAAAAART DRINKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. firethecannons Says:

awesome! glad to see this, AB is a difference maker!

  60. Buc1987 Says:

Capt.Tim ….they’re loaded like never before.

    Soooo much firepower.

As long as Brady is standing this team should repeat.

    Go Bucs!!!

  61. Buc1987 Says:

I could QB for this team.

  62. Tbbucs3 Says:

Jason Licht really striving for a 99 OVR GM rating.

    ————

It’s a civil suit and he’s already been suspended for it, so I don’t think it should be an issue again. However, if they are going to suspend him for it, hopefully its early in the season — which might not be bad anyways since it would allow him to come back later in the year fully healthy.

This is a big signing — hopefully it’s for the full season this time. Man, if Evans and Godwin are fully healthy, and OJ is back, and Brown is there along with Gronk and Brate and Miller and Tyler Johnson, that is one hell of a receiving core — plus we finally added a 3rd down receiving back who can catch the ball. Wow is this offense loaded — which is why they need a legit backup QB option. If they could get someone like Bridgewater, as a backup, that would be ideal, but perhaps they reach a little and take a QB at the end of the 1st. Who knows.

But now RB and WR should be completely off the board, and with Brate back, TE should also be off the board.

  65. Soggy Says:

Great to be a Bucs Fan these days.. Oh Ya..

  66. Buczilla Says:

I’ve made fun of and complained about Licht plenty of times in the past, but dude needs a statue in front of the stadium for what he’s done the last three years. It’s also great to have Brown back.

  67. bucsfan951 Says:

so what do the bucs do? trade up or stay put and get bpa or do they drop back some and add quality depth? i think you can justify either avenue. one thing is for certain, licht has a decision on his hands with that.

  68. DaBux Says:

    Feel the hate.
    Enjoy the hate.

Now watch the rest of the Defensive Coordinators in the league freak out.

  69. 1sparkybuc Says:

If I am remembering correctly, the 8 game suspension last year was for a previous incident, NOT for the most recent incident that was settled out of court. That’s why I questioned if there was/is another suspension looming in the near future.

  71. Howard Cosell Says:

This is sick! It’s not fair to the rest of the league.

In Tampa Bay time is divided into two epochs:
    1) Before Brady
    2) After Kingship descended from the stars

Remember when every offseason was a disappointment and every season was a bigger disappointment. Howard is tempted to write a list of tragedies
but he won’t, because even Buc fans are classier now with Brady on the team.
Howard feels there is a certain standard that he must uphold as a fan of the Bucs under Brady that wasn’t there under any other regime (except Chucky’s 2002 team)
