CBS: What Bucs Should Do

April 28th, 2021

Strong advice for Jason Licht.

A man who has deep conviction in his beliefs and his football research has concluded that if the Bucs were smart, they would draft this particular quarterback tomorrow night (!).

Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has spent all offseason studying tape of college players and texting those in the know. And his choice for the Bucs at No. 32 is pulling the trigger on Stanford quarterback Davis Mills.

It doesn’t mean Prisco believes this is what Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will do.

They have to get their quarterback of the future at some point. With most of the Super Bowl-winning team back, why not grab a quarterback I really like as a prospect to play when Tom Brady does finally walk away?

Joe wouldn’t be opposed to drafting a quarterback. But the vibe Joe got from the two press conferences this month with Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians and Licht was that they will not be quarterback hunting in the first round. Maybe in Round 3 or later.

Joe understands there are a lot of folks who think this Mills, with only 13 college games under his belt, is a sleeper. He’s also brittle with bad knees.

Mills, unlike Justin Fields who is a mobile quarterback, certainly fits Arians’ preference for dropback QBs.

Certainly would check a box and would be a smart move in the big picture , IF

  2. Alanbucsfan Says:

    3rd round ok, not 1st.

  3. Bird Says:

That guy is not first round. Not with injury history and playing only 2 handful of games in college.

A few teams are not satisfied with their qbs. But many think they have their guy. If the 5 go in first round like planned to qb needy teams , This guy could drop a long way.

  4. CharlieV Says:

    Does anyone remember Sam Bradford?

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    t.lawerance=sam bradford

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. geno711 Says:

He is brittle with bad knees. If he is available in the 3rd round for QB his potential is huge. If guys say take Landon Donovan at the end of the 1st would rather gamble end of 3rd with QB like this if still there.

  7. Mark Says:

Shane Buechele will be drafted with pick 251 in round 7.

He is almost a TB clone.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

Landon Donovan maybe a good kicker. Way to think outside the box Geno.

  9. ocala Says:

Drafting a QB just because you need one for the future is not a smart move unless you think that QB has the potential to be an elite NFL QB. If the Bucs believe one of the second tier QB’s have the potential to be an elite QB in the NFL then of course they should draft them, but my guess is they do not see that QB that could be realistically selected by the Bucs in this draft.

The Bucs next starting QB after TB12 is most likely a starter on another NFL team right now.

  10. Hodad Says:

The vibe Joe got from Licht, and Arians is the Bucs will not draft a QB in the first round. Joe, you’re kidding right? If the Bucs wanted to draft a 1st round QB they wouldn’t be jumping up, and down telling you about it. It’s called deception.

  11. Swampbuc Says:

Not with 32. I am tired of all these experts. Mills can be had later, but why? Seriously, the Bucs never did, never have, never will, had not, have not, won’t, will not and will had not ever ever successfully develop a rookie QB. No. NO.

  12. WhatTheBuc Says:

The bucs need to invest every pick and every dollar into winning now while Brady is on the roster. Eff the future. When Brady hangs them up you evaluate your options at QB then. This team can win with a backup at OLB. If we have to play a rookie QB the super bowl is out of the question.

  13. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Kellen Mond in the second at 64 or even move up in the second to grab him.

  14. Buczilla Says:

Licht, please don’t take a broken inexperienced quarterback with our first pick.

  15. unbelievable Says:

Seems like one of the riskiest QB options there is…

Only 13 college starts AND injury issues? Not in the 1st round, please.

  16. Cainishere Says:

Mark my words Treavor will be a bust. Just watch and see. That long haired hippy is gonna get creamed. Oh and this peanut brittle you talking but drafting is a joke. Smh.

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

CBS Sports, who Pete Prisco works for, rates Davis Mills as the 61st prospect, or late 2nd Round.

  18. David Says:

I prefer the first two rounds to be players that can get into rotations and contribute.
Go after a QB round three or later. But if they really like someone and he drops to them in round two, go for it.
I just prefer to see some depth added. Mainly on the front seven of the defense where they are getting older

  19. Itzok Says:

why because you have tom Brady. Drafting a qb is pointless waste and the kid would be lucky to see the field in 3 years. Not one draft pick on a qb
