Carson Palmer Says Bruce Arians Change Is For The Better

February 22nd, 2021

Byron Leftwich and Bruce Arians

Retired Cardinals, Bengals and Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer is very happy for Bucco Bruce Arians and, indirectly, happy for Tom Brady.

Palmer is a big Arians fan and told KMVP radio in Arizona that he thinks the new Arians, the Tampa Bay version, is a better head coach.

The reasoning is simple, per Palmer, less responsibility for Arians means less stress and better coaching.

Palmer loves that Arians has handed off playcalling duties to Byron Leftwich and told a story of how being a head coach/playcaller overwhelmed Arians a bit in Arizona.

”I’ll never forget. The first couple of years [I played in Arizona], I would be so frustrated waiting for him to call the play into my headset,’ Palmer explained.

”He’s down on the other end of the field screaming and yelling at the referee. I’m looking at the play clock and we got like 17 seconds on the play clock and he hasn’t even called the play in yet. … The best thing that he’s got in Tampa is he’s not having to call the plays. … He can just be the head coach.”

What a fun story.

And it seems Arians is in full agreement with Palmer. No Leftwich in Tampa, said Arians last week, and you can likely call Arians retired.

    been telling folks all year:

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Very cool statement from Palmer about how good of an HC BA is but also that there is so much that goes into being an HC you cannot be consumed with one of the 3 phases of the team.

He joes you guys going big time.Mike Florio mention y’all story about free agency on his show check it out cool.

Adam Gase was a can’t miss play caller to a twice fired head coach.

Let’s all stop anointing OC’s who coach Brady.

Thanks Young. Florio has been good to Joe and we certainly appreciate that.

    @ jo mama

BL had a successful offense BEFORE brady thats 1st. 2nd Norv turner was another OC that was not great of a coach so what is your point? Just because Gase failed BL does not deserve a shot? Thats stupid. The point you and others like you are missing is BL has earned and deserve the opportunity to succeed or fail as a head coach whether you like or not.

    Well said @Dusthty Rhothdes

  9. Stanglassman Says:

Yeah I don’t get all the BL hate either.

  10. Oneilbucs Says:

I would like for BL to be the head coach of the future !!

  11. David Says:

That right there is why I do not like the head coach being a coordinator on either side of the ball. They should delegate. They have final say, manage the game, are involved with game plan, etc. but calling plays during the game should not be on the head coach.

Really it’s like any well run business. You must learn to delegate and trust that you hired good people underneath you.

  12. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

I remember when everyone was demanding Arians take over the play calling duty!!! Lol

  13. lambeau Says:

I find little rhythm or creativity in BL’s playcalling, but the playoffs were different.
I suspect Brady’s influence grew throughout the year, especially after the bye.

  14. geno711 Says:

BL all year getting disrespected by arm chair play callers.

Proof is here in his two years as Buc’s coordinator. He may not be the very best in the league but he has certainly proved very, very capable.

The sad thing about these posts is that these guys think you can win with only talent in the NFL. To win like we did this year, you have to have superior coaching. You do not luck into it.

Todd Bowles masterminded the superbowl win and that was superior coaching
