“Coach, He Threw Us A Bone. He Showed Love.”

A Bucs captain speaks

Bucco Bruce Arians was a topic last week on many sports TV “hollering shows,” as Joe calls them, and across national sports radio.

The subject was Arians going public after last Sunday’s crushing of the Panthers to let the world know he has “a really tired team” and that he would be giving them a mini-bye week and not returning until Thursday to practice for Monday night’s game against the Rams.

Former NFL players applauded the move as a glorious take and action by a head coach who understands players. Former Pro Bowl defensive end and Ivy League superstar Marcellus Wiley just about went wild on FS1, noting how Arians’ move must have electrified the Buccaneers locker room.

Other ex-players said they liked everything about Arians being in synch with his roster, as well as his moves to hold night practices to break the Bucs’ struggles under the lights.

Lavonte David had loving tones in his voice when he talked about it with The Herd. “Coach, he threw us a bone. He showed us love,” David told the national TV audience.

Maybe the Bucs are tired. Maybe they’re not. Regardless, Joe loves the Arians mind games of giving the team more time off and night practices to make then think they’ve been re-energized.

Sometimes when you think you’re super fresh and ready, that’s all you need to play that way.

Agree with your view on this wholeheartedly Joe. BA gave this team a couple extra tools this week to feel prepped for this game.

Now, let them reward the coach with inspired play tomorrow night.

They did travel….after being on a plane for 5-7 hrs. The travel process disrupts your routine no matter how you slice it or dice it. Add in its mid season….these guys need a break, particularly the vets. i think that’s what players like about Arians….he gets it. He understands the toll the season has on the players….he understands the vets can and need a break but can still produce on game day. Arians knows how to prepare with consistency yet remain fluid when needed.

Nice take on the situation Joe! So much of the game is mental. Maybe the “bone” will bring out the wild dogs tomorrow night.

Smart moves by the coach. Now the players need to perform against the Rams on Monday night!

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Smart man. Good move. The old style of you’re not a man unless you push yourself past your limit without a complaint were dangerous and not productive.

Let them rest. LA has to fly across the country.

  7. Doctor Stroud Says:

If they win, it was a “genius” move. If not, then it wasn’t.

  8. The Red Mirage Says:

The process seems sound to me regardless of the outcome.

Tired ? … where is Lawrence Taylor when you need him 😉

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs need this one and KC as well. Hope they are prepared for the Beast..Aaron Donald. He is a load and then some. LA’s defense is as good as ours. Ruck up Bucs.

Raheem Morris is a good coach that we should have not got rid of .

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

Coach Arians best move was wrestling the puppy away from an alligator, without even losing his cigar…Well, the guy who did it looked like Arians, anyway.

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Joe

That video freaked me out!!! That guy obviously LOVED that puppy or must have had some adrenaline rush.

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

It doesn’t really matter if they’re tired, need the rest, or whether it was an excuse.

What matters is what it put in the Buc’s heads. BA is a players coach, perhaps we really didn’t suck that much against New Orleans. We are now FRESH for the Rams….just a slew of positive thoughts.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

SPBF: Yes, and the guy didn’t even have his head on a swivel, if there’s small gators in the water, there are big ones, too.

  16. Oneilbuc Says:
