Marching To The Hall

January 18th, 2020

Another step towards Canton.

As Bucs fans eat TUMS trying to figure out why John Lynch, Rondé Barber and Simeon Rice cannot get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, consider a current player who is putting up Hall of Fame numbers.

We all know Bucs receiver Mike Evans is a tremendous player. One of the NFL’s best. And Joe for the past year or so has suggested Evans is putting together a Hall of Fame resume.

Well, with one more good year in 2020, Evans could just about seal the deal.

Consider that Evans has had 1,000 yards receiving in each of his six seasons in the NFL, all with the Bucs. If Evans does this again in 2020, he will become the first NFL player to record 1,000 yards in a season in each of his first seven seasons.

To Joe, if Evans does that, then it is only a matter of time before Evans is up for election to Canton.

Of course, the worst thing that could happen for Evans, outside of Evans getting hurt in 2020, would be for the Bucs to unload the league’s leading passer because some folks don’t have the stomach to tolerate a few picks.

Nothing like wasting Evans’ talents (and Team Glazer’s loot) by having a checkdown artist start at quarterback.

The Mike Glennon Mob is alive and well!

Why would you say that Joe? As far as I know Johnny Football is still available!

Is there only ONE QB in the NFL. Do you realize how BADLY you disrespect ME13?

Did it EVER occur to you that ME13 and Godwin made “blameless” not the other way around? Seriously.

  2. John Sinclear Says:

There’s a QB coming out this draft, has a college football championship ring, (with Alabama), pretty accurate passer, low int ratio. I think he could find Mike Evans with no problem.

  3. Ed Says:

No the worst thing the. Bucs could do is not sign an efficient, smart quarterback that knows how to play mistake-free. If SF and Tenn win tomorrow and match up in SB the argument that former backups can get you to the big game is even stronger.

Building a team around solid running game, great defense and playmakers takes up a ton of salary cap. Why waste it on Jameis? Godwin and Evans would make Trubisky or Cousins stellar.

Use that money for better Oline’ runners and more Dline.

The Bucs are solid now at LB, WR, DB, edge/rush and TE. They don’t need to waste cap on Winston. Sign a Bridgewater and buy the rest of the parts you need to win.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

I predict Jameis will be back. If we get a good RB in the 1st or 2nd Rd of the Draft to pair with RoJo, this offense will be smoking. Franchise Jameis and give him one more year to settle into BA’s offense. If he flames out in 2020, then there will be no doubt about moving on.

  5. Bird Says:

    We know which Joe-

You do realize that mike Evans caught 12 tds his first season as a rookie when jameis was still in college?

Tied for most in career . 12 tds when he didnt know the ins and outs of NFL play . Probably a fluke though right ?

And guess who he was catching balls from ?
Two guys you make fun of : mccown and mike glennon
Two guys who got negative comments from you even though two good guys and team players but again they did not start in that pitt game with all the post game hot showers and belly rubs and a pack of smokes.

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

He could play 10 more years and with a 5 year wait for the hall we’re talking 2035. That’s quite a while.

  7. SickofLosing Says:

Hahahahaha! A few picks, lol! That’s seriously funny. A. FEW. PICKS.
I really wanted to write that 30 times but don’t care to waste my time. I’ve said the Bucs should bring him back on a 3 year contract, 1st year guaranteed, next 2 club options. But get real, 30 picks is not a few, and definitely cost us 2-4 wins on the year.

  8. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

Funny how Joe keeps forgetting that it wasn’t JW3 who threw the ball for Mike Evans’ first 1000 yard season. Here were some of my favorite comments following Winston’s clutch performance in week 17:

Jameis had a run game today, and a defense. Guess what, he still threw INTs.

    It’s not working.
    One word, Ryan Tannerhill.
OK two words, but hey at least I didn’t throw a pick six to end the season.

    SB Says:
    December 29th, 2019 at 5:58 pm
Crazy stuff that is happening is that we have all been hearing all year that all Jameis needs was an Average Defense (6 sacks and 9 TFL is not ‘Average’).
All he needs is a competent Running game. ( Ronald Jones leads all RBs so far today).  ‎

  9. Anonymous Says:

Steal Nick Mullens from San Francisco.

  10. BucfaninMi Says:

Jason needs to steal Nick Mullens away from San Francisco

Another asinine Bait Comment by Joe: “Of course, the worst thing that could happen for Evans . . . would be for the Bucs to unload the league’s leading passer because some folks don’t have the stomach to tolerate a few picks.”

Yes, the leading passer — of the ball to other teams.

Look, bring Jameis back if he agrees to a contract commensurate with his talent — but with penalties for TOs.

If Jameis’ agent won’t be reasonable, let him go.

Remember, the Ice Cream Man signed in Carolina for what the Bucs offered here.

If Jameis throws a tantrum because he is not getting paid more than an above-average but unproven QB, bye-bye to the LA cesspool or Detroit or Chicago.

    Time takes care of everything.

  12. Swampbuc Says:

The Mike Glennon mob is the dumbest of all mobs,

  13. Gerald McBezos Says:

Kuechly will get hall of fame consideration.

Lavonte has been as good, for as long, and hopefully will be here for 5 more years as this defense continues to improve and we turn the thing around.

Evans hall of fame trajectory all of a sudden takes a hit if you mess around and let the guy who throws him the football walk away. Jameis’ INT prone all or nothing style inflates the #s of every WR he plays with – how many guys have ever thrown for 5000 yards? 7 or 8? And we’ve got one. Keep him. Don’t surround him with Barber and Martin at 3 yards per rush.

  14. Bird Says:

“Stomach for only a few picks “

Do you know that there are only 6 qbs in the history of the NFL that have thrown more then 30 picks in a season . Again …only 6. No big deal.

And how many qbs have there been in the history of the NFL?
    Answer : A lot

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

Imagine if he was drafted by the Belicheats or the Packers. Holy cow! The gods would never let that happen. Too much awesome power in one place

  17. WestChap Says:

Why? Why? Why! If you want to celebrate Mike then celebrate Mike… don’t throw in a laughable line about keeping your man-crush in town. Ugh! Mike Evans will make any QB look better… look what he did for first rounder Manziel.

  18. WestChap Says:

The Jameis apologists are stupefying. I just read another site’s analysis of who was at fault for the 30 picks… apparently JW owns only 16.5. Yet, out of the first 4 that weren’t his fault: 2 were high and behind the receiver and one was off target because he threw while off balance due to the rush. Well, “Off Target” should be JW’s middle name… in fact, I could stomach Joe’s America’s QB if he amended to America’s Off-Target QB! Elite QBs have superior ball placement that JW delivers at most 10% of the time… there’s a reason we have a stable of jump ball receivers! And the truly great QBs don’t heave the ball up with a prayer. Argh!

  19. Patrick Says:

Want to know an alarming stat?

Jameis Winston, through 5 NFL seasons, only has 34 less interceptions (88) than Brad Johnson did in his entire 17 year career (122).

  20. Kyle Says:

This just in…Winston isnt the only capable qb in America..

  21. Rob Says:

Joe is blinded and enamored by the ATM’s gaudy statistics with yards, touchdowns, etc. You know the ONLY stat that matters, Joe? Wins. Your boy, America’s turnover machine, is careless with the football. Even after 5 years and a season started and ended with a pick 6, his idiot response is “check yo sheet”. Ridiculous comment from a “franchise quarterback”. End your love affair with the ATM and get us a boring game manager who won’t give the game away. Go Bucs!

  22. WestChap Says:

I have been ignoring all the comments for an incentive laden contract as not helping with the cap… but did not realize until seeing an article that incentives are defined as “not likely to be earned” if the condition wasn’t met in the prior year… so a $20 base with $5 for making playoffs, $5 for making NFC championship and $5 for making Super Bowl… means we pay JW $35 for a super run and only $20 counts against the cap. If you also draft a young pup QB, I could live with that. Particularly, if future years 3 become voidable if he throws more than 20 INTs in any year. Of course none of this matters if he really is insisting on at least 3 years at $30 fully guaranteed… but maybe that’s just negotiating from his side? I can’t believe he would get that given how the Foles and Cousins deals have worked out for those teams.

  23. Wesley Says:

    A “few” picks? Hahaha

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    No, No, No

Mike Evans averaged 106.5 yards in the first four games of 2018 with Ryan Fitzpatrick.(yes there were other games with Fitz but I’m too lazy to figure all that out)

    So…..that would have projected to 1704 yards….

Mike is good enough to make 1,000 yards with most any QB

  25. Ndog Says:

I can’t wait to see the comments from all the Jameis haters if the resign him, especially if they give him more than just the one year franchise Tag. It’s funny they accuse fans like myself as liking Jameis more than the team which is ludicrous. But if they resign him just watch the full on meltdown from the usual crowd, or as I have dubed them the CLUELESS.

  26. Mike Evans Goat Says:

Mike is not only on his way to canton. Mike is on his way to the GOAT conversation. If Mike put up these numbers on a winning team he would already be in that conversation. He’s not only bcuz he is stuck here

  27. Ndog Says:

I love Evans please don’t get me wrong but his lack of YAC will keep him out of the best ever conversation regardsless of his final numbers. That is a huge hole in his game he just can’t seem to improve upon. But thats fine no player is perfect, I’ll take him all day everyday.

  28. 541BucsFan Says:

    You have it backwards …

Evans makes every QB a pro bowl candidate.

He won Johnny Football a heisman.

He gets JW his yards and TDs.

  29. Aceofaerospace Says:

Just imagine the numbers Mike Evans could have if his quarterback didn’t throw 30 interceptions, 7 being pick-6’s in one year. Just imagine the numbers he could have if it didn’t take 5 years for his quarterback to occasionally hit him in stride. Just imagine. It works both ways Joe. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin can make you look really good. And, if the Bucs sign Mr Pick-6 to a multi year contract, I’ll be thrilled, because people with their money and their careers on the line believe he’s The One. That’s good enough for me. Personally, I want him franchised and real competition brought in. But, I have nothing invested in that decision. Nothing will turn me against my team.

  32. Jean Lafitte Says:

It doesn’t matter what starting NFL QB is throwing to Mike Evans, he’ll get his 1000 yards regardless. The same for Godwin, especially in this type scheme.

  33. Pete Mitchell Says:

If I was a WR I would love playing for Jameis!

He is not afraid to give you a chance to be great. Hell, half the time you have to be great just to make sure the dB doesn’t give you the ball.

But you know no matter what he’s gonna sling it, and hey, those picks don’t go on your record!

“If I was a WR I would love playing for Jameis!”

You wouldn’t mind having to lay out and stretch for all those passes leaving you defenseless against CB’s and more importantly head hunting safeties knowing they’re going to get a shot at you with “blameless” tossing all those jump balls.

  48. Howard Cosell Says:

You guys have to understand that in tampa there’s a long held tradition, passed on from father to son, to hate all QB’s for the Bucs. You must always hate the QB and never look too deeply at the X’s and O’s. Let the dark side flow through you. It doesn’t matter if you’re Doug Williams, Vinnie Testaverde, Brian Griese, Jeff Garcia, Freeman, McCown, Glennon or Jameis. You will be hated by a redneck mob who will demand change at the position of QB

I don’t hate opinions until they lead to people taking actions that hurt people. But I notice that the first time you ever acknowledge any of my opinions it was when I comment on Jameis’ talent and compared to other franchise QB’s in team history and you didn’t read what I said and thought I said Trent Dilfer was more talent then Jameis, which was not what I said.

I will admit you probably don’t remember that interaction. Which is fine.

Yet, you never said you were not one of Joe’s. Which again I don’t care if you are one of the Joe’s, So-Called America’s QB himself, Jamies dad or family member, Jameis1of1( Natty Licht) or just some random guy like me.

What I find funny is that people think Arians can win with anybody when in reality he hasn’t won crap without Manning #1 overall pick, Luck #1 overall pick, Palmer #1 overall pick and Big Ben #11 overall pick. Yeah those guys are anybody, get a clue fellas.
    __________________________
Lies. Another Winston knob gobbler that LIES. These disgusting people will lie to keep their idol and loser in tampa.
Arians went 11-5 with Palmer(ONLY 6 games then IR), Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley.
Don’t believe the Winston knob gobblers. They lie and will do anything to promote their man crush the L-eater himself.

  55. geno711 Says:

    TREX

The newest Winston garbage is that somehow Winston has made Mike Evans and Chris Godwin good receivers.

Johnny Manziel without Mike Evans has sucked.

How many times did Chris Godwin catch poorly thrown balls to save Jameis this past year.

    Get these stats!
For receivers with over 100 targets, Chris Godwin ended up 2nd in catch percentage at 71%. Yet Jameis Winston finished 32nd in the NFL on target throws at 69%.

Compare that to Mike Thomas who was 1st for receivers in catch percentage. Drew Brees on target throws were 84%.

We can say that Jameis is better than some quarterbacks in this league but to act like he is one of the best is just silly.

  56. David Says:

No one is saying if Jameis Winston goes they’re going to a check down artist. Why would you assume that?
That is not Byron Leftwich or Bruce Arians MO.

  57. #1bucfan Says:

    30 picks isn’t a few joe hahaha

  58. BucFanDuh Says:

Mike Evans is absolutely on pace for the HoF… but he isn’t there yet, not even close. Your one record breaking stat of consecutive 1k rec yard seasons since his first season, is irrelevant. Hes still just the primary reciever for a losing team. If he continues his pace, and the bucs start winning more, enough for postseason glory… he will absolutely be a first ballot HoF. But until the bucs start stringing together multiple years worth of winning seasons, and realistically a couple championships…… Mike Evans will just be another great player snubbed by a consistently bad team.

  59. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I’ve always been a supporter of Jameis because I see the ability and talent and yes the stats are important but like the “haterz” say if he caught over 1000 yards and 12 tds from McClown and McGiraffe then he makes any qb look better. Look at all the jump balls and contested catches made over the years he has bailed Jameis out. Evans lack of YAC is partly due to Dirk Digler play calling and Jameis inaccuracy at times. He burns corners on a regular even though he is not known as a burner. This year his accuracy was up much better on the deep passes and Mikes YAC went up. Like Aryans said we CAN win with another qb, but like Carson Palmer said Jameis wil do much better his 2nd year in this system. I can live with that chance unless maybe Derrick Carr is up for trade.
