Shaq Cashed In With Eighth Sack, Says More Cash Is On The Table

September 23rd, 2019

Linebacker Shaq Barrett is not just leading the NFL in sacks and dominating in an unprecedented way, he’s lighting up his bank account.

Barrett confirmed tonight that his fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth sack, specifically the last one, triggered a contract bonus.

He also said on the Buccaneers Radio Network that he’ll get more cash at the 10-sack mark and at the 12-sack mark this season. Per Spotrac.com, those bonuses, if hit, would total $1 million. Without incentives, Barrett was set to earn $4 million on his one-year deal.

The Bucs signed Barrett to a prove-it contract this offseason and Barrett said Bucs coaches told him that every guy they’ve brought in on other teams to play Barrett’s role has succeeded and either the team re-signed the guy or just couldn’t afford him on the free agent market.

Joe suspects Shaq is hoping for that gargantuan pay day. If he can ball for another few months, he’ll will become a very, very, very rich man.

That’s one guy playing his ass off…

  2. Go Bucs 72 Says:

    Give him the money now.

  3. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Light needs to start negotiating now!

  4. StonedBuc Says:

Cut jpp and give him that money.

  5. Pelbuc61 Says:

Stoned Buc is spot on! Cut JPP, Dotson, VH3 and restructure Donovan Smith and Jensen. Shaq reminds me of Hardy Nickerson. You need him around to change the culture.

Lol… seem to have read JPP has been showing his face around OBP recently…maybe he fella threaten $$$$.. I’d like to know a bit more about SBs character and personality, is he happy he is here. Buc Luck … Licht is the guy driving Homecoming Queen around the field in a convertible at half but she’ll be going to the dance with someone “ better looking and more popular “… and this year is just a cruel tease

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Glad Licht hit on a free agent

Too bad he whiffed on all these defensive backs

  8. TDTB Says:

I suspect they would have to pay him more for this year too in order to get his agent interested in negotiating now because it looks he’ll have a season that will result in a big contract. Don’t mind though. We need him or JPP on roster for next year before drafting a bookend. Between the two, Shaq is probably a better buy and has more years left in his prime. Probably need to tell both their agents we’re only signing one and the first one to sign an extension wins. That would create some leverage but not a lot.

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Yep they can’t let this guy go. That is really not even a option at this point.

  10. Colonel Angus Says:

All contracts should be performance based. Would see more dudes balling out on Sundays.

  11. Pewter power Says:

At 26 he’s perfect to sign a 3 or 4 year contract. Sucks JPP got hurt this line would be amazing. With the way this o line is playing it will be a big decision with their first pick o line or edge rush I’m sure they think Anthony Nelson will take over. What’s his name Nassib on the opposite side lol he’s just a guy and doesn’t seem like he’s interested in a big payday

  12. Bucnjim Says:

Well if you’ve actually been watching the games you’d know Nasib has been playing well.

  13. Pittbucfan Says:

    Earn them bonuses Shaq!!!!

  14. TampaTown Says:

Like Teddy KGB said to Mike (Matt Damon) in the movie Rounders (a totally awesome and underrated movie), “Pay the man his money.”

  15. unbelievable Says:

He is gonna get paid some big $$$ next year

(and probably not by us. Because you know we’re in salary cap hell… coming off back to back 5-11 seasons, and already have another losing record 3 weeks into this season! Aw yea, sounds like Bucs ball baby!)

  16. Buczilla Says:

Holy hell, this guy killing it! One if the few bright spots thus far. Watch this guy get close to 15 or so sacks this year and the bucs sign him to a long term deal. I can also see the Bucs firing all of the current coaches and bringing in a 4-3 guy to run the defense. This new guy will then not know how to use Shaq and he will become a four sack per year player. I know it’s jumping the gun, but I’ve been a fan for a long time and I can see that nonsense happening. 😀

“Give him the money now. ”

There is absolutely no way he would agree to a deal before the end of season. He’d be stupid to do so.

“Well if you’ve actually been watching the games you’d know Nasib has been playing well. ”

This is very true. He and Shaq are a great team. You can tell they are working together to apply pressure. Several of Shaq’s sacks came because Nassib brought pressure from the other side. They even fist bump afterward because their plans work.

Nassib may not be getting the sack numbers like Shaq, but he’s a big part of things.

  19. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

The best thing about Shaq is that he can sack the QB 8 times without the penalty flags that Miles Garrett gets.

    Amazing stuff!

  20. adam from ny Says:

shaq is like the front man in a rock band…

he’s reaping the bennies of everyones play on the d-line…

    he’s kind of “the finisher”…

kudos to shaq — he has many moves and is balling hardbody…

  21. Jonzey Says:

Keep JPP and Shaq would be crazy no one would be able to stop us and when we get White even more

  22. Pittsshore Says:

The cheap arse Glazers will probably convert him to deep safety (or kicker) in order to not pay him any additional bonuses.

  23. Kord Says:

This guy is gonna get the sack record with 4 or 5 weeks left in the season if he keeps this up
