“It’ll Be Like Having A Shiny New Toy”

April 29th, 2019

Bucs DC Todd Bowles

Weeks ago new Bucs inside linebacker Devin White, the No. 5 overall pick, sat down with Bucs coaches.

Of course, one was the trusted architect of the new Tampa Bay defense.

Todd Bowles isn’t big on hyperbole and fancy talk, so it intrigued Joe to hear White say Bowles told him, “it’ll be like having a shiny new toy” if the Bucs draft White.

The quote comes from White in Nashvile with the WTSP-TV, Ch. 10 sports director Ryan Bass. It seems Ch. 10 was the only local media outlet there for the big night. Kudos to them.

White added that Bowles told him his transition to the Bucs’ new 3-4 defense would be super smooth.

Enjoy the video below.

Elijah Holyfield went undrafted and signed w the panthers?? They have a legit RB and still signed him?? Why didn’t we make an attempt…The kid can run the ball. Reading he fell bc of his 40 time. He wasn’t a scrub at Georgia by any means

  2. Taylor Says:

Over 1,000 yards and 6.4 yards a carry in the SEC last year. What are we doing???

    Love Devin
    He is a uniter
If the D takes on his leadership/personality…..
Hold on it will be full on

.RB Devine Ozigbo Signs UDFA Deal with New Orleans Saints!!!!!!!

    I AGREE WITH TAYLOR

OUR DIVISION IS GETTING BETTER ON BOTH LINES AND AT RB DEPTH.
    OZIGBO CAN REALLY PLAY

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

A bigger, faster, version (without the headaches) of Daryl Washington; I get it.

How do you know if we attempted to sign him or not……these UDFA can sign anywhere they choose…..I suspect most of them sign where they think they can make the team but there may be other reasons.

  8. TexBuc Says:

UDFA is not obligated to sign with a team just because a team calls them. Much like asking a girl out to dinner you can ask but if she does not want to go then nothing you can do but watch her go out to dinner with your rival.

  9. Jeffbuc Says:

Taylor he was a undrafted free agent that means he gets to choose where he wants to go. Doesn’t mean we didn’t even try. I’m sure we went after a lot of undrafted free agents. You have a 1 in 32 chance of signing them. And if he was so great why did he not go in the draft. Because he is slower than molasses. It is a lot easier to be successful in college being a slower running back or receiver. But in the nfl when you are slower than most defensive lineman it’s not going to translate very well. Go do yourself a favor and watch the highlights of the undrafted running back we did sign. And you will see why we did what we did. He looked really good and fast from the highlights I saw.

  10. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs could have drafted Elijah Holyyfield with their 7th round pick. it would have been a value pick.

  11. KC Says:

Love the new staff, lots of famous faces. Pretty sure I saw HC Grandpa Bruce (the hip-hop Wilford Brimley) and OC Webster (all grown up) talking with Winston about minimizing the excess garlic butter on his hands this season, per the suggestion of DC Seal (who, w/o Heidi Klum to distract him, has time to sit with DL coach Jo from The Facts of Life and study these things.) Really, its amazing that GM Ishmael Knight-Licht was able to assemble this kind of freakish talent, especially this close to Gibsonton.

Didn’t Holyfield run a 4.8? Why are we complaining about not getting him?

We just need a RB who can catch. Bruce Anderson or Shaun Wilson could be that guy.

  14. Joeypoppems Says:

On the topic of UDFA, Demarkus Lodge and Anthony Johnson are 2 great signings imo. I think they could beat out guys like Bobo Wilson and the kid they drafted in the 6th. Unless BA wants purely speed with the last couple WR spots.

  15. Joeypoppems Says:

Now, on topic with this article, I love Devin White. Everything about him. He is a perfect fit for what this team needs on the field and in the locker room. Face of the franchise type of player.

  16. LakeLand Says:

    Joeypoppems

    Sometimes speed is overrated
    Especially for a RB

  17. NOSBOS Says:

Kevin Minter said this defense is easy to learn.

  18. LakeLand Says:

    Devin White will be ok

I think the offense will be the biggest problem

  19. tmaxcon Says:

Remember people udfa have choices and the small market minor league franchise is the least desirable location in the NFL and the NFL’s undisputed black hole…. you can’t blame any player for avoiding this joke of franchise

Tampa with glazers in charge is a tougher sell than a slumber party hosted by harvey Weinstein

  20. Rusty Says:

Jacques Patrick is still out there

  21. WhatTheBuc Says:

The offense was top 5 last season with a crap offensive line (that I suspect we will improve before the season). How is offense the problem Lakeland? Losing Hump and Djax doesn’t help but we still have top level talent on O. I think anyone paying attention knows defense (especially secondary) was the issue.

  22. NOSBOS Says:

    Ed Oliver!!! 😊😊😊

  23. Jackwagon Says:

Nevermind…the Holyfield last name. The dude ran an 4.76 40 yard dash. That’s quite literally feet drying in cement, speed. Slower than LB’s, many many offensive linemen. Colossal waste of time.

And I don’t know who said a “1 out of 32 chance” of signing UDFA’s…that completely false and hogwash wrong. UDFA are NO different than regular FA’s. Teams scramble to call them, and offer a calculated amount of $$$ to sign with that team, as a guarantee via signing bonus, irrespective of making the team or not. So if a team wanted to make the odds, 1 out of 1 for instance, they could immediately, by choice.

Tyree Jackson, that sasquatch QB at 6’8 or whatever went undrafted, and the Bills gave him $75k no questions asked to sign with them, come to camp tryout. They won, cuz of the loot. It’s that simple. Determination and coin.

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

I have a good feeling about Anderson. Hopefully he turns out to be local guy works out.

He comes from a multi-championship team so at least he knows what it’s like to play for a winner. Hopefully he doesn’t have to lose that feeling because he became a Buc.

Go back and look at the last 4 games of 2018

    What offense???

  27. The Fighting Schiano's Says:

Enough of this Holifield crap. We already have a better version. His name is Peyton Barber. We needed a back that can get it done out of the backfield catching the ball, etc. Maybe we have him, maybe we don’t. If the guys dad wasn’t the champ, NOBODY would be complaining about not picking up a 4.8 RB. Jesus, can’t we just trust this new staff for at least the beginning of the season before we get the pitchforks out?

  28. rrsrq Says:

Devin White will compete for ROY
Jameis will put up MVP numbers (breaking the record for most TDs
    Offense will finish top ten
    Defense will finish top fifteen
ST will win a couple of games for us
We will more than double in creating turnovers (I know that may not reach double figures)
Watch OJ breakout, Watch LVD step up his game and watch the Nelson become a fan favorite when we use him in the red zone.
    Mark the tape

  29. WhatTheBuc Says:

Lakeland, The only game the offense played poorly out of the last 4 was against the Ravens. That was in part due to not being able to stop the Ravens running game and them running clock all game. We had 350, 400, and 450 yards of offense in the other 3 games. Winston threw 4 TDs in the final game. Every offense has bad games. I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

  30. SKIP B Says:

have you guys not seen our RBs? Any free agent would have an easier chance of making the team here than anywhere else in the league.

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @rrsrq

I like the way you think.

  32. Stonedbuc Says:

Speed is never overrated lol… but Holyfield going to a rival is a low blow. He is going to pound us for years.

    —————–

What are we doing? The same thing 31 other teams did after the draft and all 32 teams did during the draft. Deemed him to have little to no value and chose not to pursue him. If he was so great, some team would’ve chosen him… but instead 250 or so players were drafted and he never heard his name called. He certainly isn’t viewed as a difference maker.
