Uber Driver Lawyers Up

November 19th, 2017

Here we go again.

You better sit down for this one.

Mere hours after Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby released a statement to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports that he and Jameis Winston were in the backseat of an Uber ride in which the driver — some 20 months after the fact — claims she was grabbed by Jameis in her private area, the Uber driver in question has lawyered up.

Two days after a Buzzfeed.com article appeared written by Talal Ansari in which the Uber driver, identified only as “Kate,” said she didn’t do this for money, it appears it really is all about the money.

Sunday, per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, “Kate” has decided to hire a lawyer. “Kate” has retained the services of the same legal counsel as Erica Kinsman, the woman who unsuccessfully (through proper legal channels) claimed Jameis raped her at Florida State but did successfully squeeze a settlement out of Jameis.

Pardon Joe if this is written too sarcastically for his readers, but the irony here is so deep Joe has to go buy hip boots.

  2. lurker Says:

this just ain’t going to get better.

  3. zwh99 Says:

    Ridiculous

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Nah, this wasn’t a set up. Not at all. No way. Well … maybe? (Ya, right).

  5. Ryan Says:

I gotta disagree on this one. If it were solely about the money, why would she wait a year before doing anything? I think its more likely she got pissed off when Ronald Darby backed up Jameis’ account. Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely love for it to come to light that Jameis is blameless. I really would. But I think your assessment is premature and off base. Sorry Joe…

  6. Dirty Bucs Says:

Yeah, well…if Kate really had the experience she claims, and has to now listen to people say she’s a liar, it isn’t any wonder that she would take exception to the treatment she’s getting. Did you really think there wouldn’t be an attorney involved in this at some point?

Like it or not, Jameis isn’t going to get the benefit of the doubt. I’m not sure he deserves it, either.

  7. Wesley Says:

She’s just looking for a pay day, this is B.S.

  8. lurker Says:

did this lawyer contacted her first?

  9. LakeLand Says:

Making false accusations against someone is a serious charge. She will need a lawyer.

  10. Dondeuce51 Says:

So this is how I think this went down. I think Kate had had totally let this go after she filed her complaint in 2016 with Uber. I abelieve the letter she received from the NFL is the reason this has resurfaced, especially because Winston was mentioned by name in the letter. I don’t honestly believe she knew who he really was when the incident originally occurred. This is purely a money grab her choice of attorney validates it.

  11. lightningbuc Says:

Joe has his head so far up Jaboo’s wazoo it’s shocking he can breathe long enough to type out an article. Really, really tone deaf.

  12. Joe Says:

    lightningbuc:

Understand you would love nothing more than to geld Jameis — interesting you woke from a long nap at the very same time another charge against Jameis came up. Sorry if Joe finds it dripping in sarcasm that of all the thousands of lawyers she chooses it is Kinsman’s lawyer who does not come cheap. So if she is not in it for the money, why hire a terribly expensive lawyer?

Unless Kinsman’s lawyer is working pro bono?

  13. Not there yet Says:

Give me a break people she is from AZ and didn’t know who Winston is now she’s using a lawyer across country the same one that squeezed money out of Winston before? What are the chances of them finding Winston guilty on this type of case? Very unlikely, chances of getting paid regardless are absolute if all you are going to do is drag the case out and smear this guy’s name. But how could he walk around acting as if he’s not a Target? Just because he put that college allegation behind him doesn’t mean anyone else will, maybe now he’ll smarten up and realize where he stands in the eye of public

  14. jo_mama Says:

Let’s not forget Jameis was accused of rape and the college police covered it up.

  15. Ryan Says:

    Joe:

I could see Kinsman’s lawyer wanting another bite out of the apple and convincing the Uber driver to retain him/her.

  16. SmokeymountainBucsfan Says:

@Lurker Spot on, we’ll probably not know the answer. That lawyer was probably thinking when this became public that Jameis Winston licked me once but he ain’t licking me again

  17. LakeLand Says:

This whole soap opera don’t make sense. No criminal charges has been filed, but people are treating Jameis like a criminal. She said that Jameis was alone in the car. But now Ronald Darby said he was with Jameis. Then she go out and hire the same lawyer that tried to railroad Jameis before. There’s some lying going on somewhere. And all arrows points directly at her.

  18. Tony 12" Pepperoni Says:

    Ryan,yep thinking the same thing..

  19. Silent_Partner Says:

Lol, but you guys knew it wasn’t about any money. Lmao. If I’m Jameis, I’m looking at my so called fan base funny from now on out because you predictably threw him under the bus the first chance you got even though the anonymous angelic Uber girl has already been caught in a lie off jump, not to mention that she decided to go to her employer about something happening in the car after the fact but nobly didn’t want to file a police report.

Btw, for the people saying she didn’t want the hassle, this is Maricopa County. yes, that Maricopa County of recently pardoned resident racist Sheriff Joe who had never seen a publicity stunt he didn’t like. Remember how Warren Sapp lost his job for I kid you not, escorts stealing from him, and they only got a citation while he lost his career, lol. But keep burying the only good thing to happen to your franchise in 14 years. I’m sure plenty of teams will take him off your hands. Furthermore, it was in Scottsdale. I can tel you from personal experience of living here, they don’t let you sneeze if somebody calls the cops on you. But yeah, go with the Uber girl over your QB.

  20. Joe Says:

    Ryan:

Probably right. May think he knows how to squeeze more cash out of Jameis.

  21. Jim Says:

Well that sure does change things now doesn’t it.

  22. Ryan Says:

    Joe:

Kinsman’s lawyer already got one settlement; why not go for two.

  23. Bucamania Says:

Now I’m really skeptical. I’m sure this lawyer contacted her and pushed her to go public with this. He needs the money too.

  24. Tony 12" Pepperoni Says:

Silent_Partner your comment is so funny.

  25. Ryan Says:

Still…and I cannot stress this enough – I reeeeeeeeeeeeally hope it turns out that Jameis is innocent of this.

  26. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Can someone answer a question. If you read a Buccanneer player had been accused of sexual impropriety without a name mentioned whose name would be the first to come to mind? Ryan Griffin….Fitzpatrick…GMC…Ayers or Swaggy.

Nah. Why is that. Does our team not have any other millionaires who are famous and obvious targets for gold diggers? Could it be because one of our goofballs still runs with a doosh who took a cellphone a videoed sex with a non consensual woman who was drunk. I get that that is not the same as rape but it is still very very WRONG.

For #3 to be out rolling with this posse at 2AM juiced up is simply unforgivable.

So how many of you feel good about dumping more than 100 million into #3’s lap next year? Do you really really have faith that this is the end of it.

They are freaking RICH. # signed for more than 20 million with a 16 million bonus. He can hire limos for his partying…he can hire bodyguards and baby sitters to keep him out of trouble. But NOOOO here were are again debating whether to slut shame the girl…totally give #3 a pass or not….AGAIN.

At some point this is getting really really old…it’s the Glazers money but he’s not getting 100 million from me..perhaps a totally incentive laden contract that protects the team and FANS!!!

AGAIN…why are the gold diggers not charging ME…DJAX…Marpet..ANY other player on our team. Perhaps #3 is just cursed and has rotten luck eh?

  27. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Of course she should lawyer up!!!!!!!!!! Look at the smear campaign against her!!!

Good for her and bad for Jameis!!

Get rid of Jameis this off-season…there I said it..and dopn’t @ me cause anyone else’s opinions don’t mean squat to me unless you’re paying my mortgage..lol.

  28. gambelero Says:

Joe is totally wrong. There are over a million lawyers she could have chosen from, so the odds of it being a coincidence that she chose the same ambulance chaser are way more than one in thousands.

  29. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Who could have guessed that she is only after money?

  30. AlteredEgo Says:

No it is about “her”….coming out…huge anvil of money and power…

  31. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    StPeteBucFan…

    Perfectly stated…

  32. AlteredEgo Says:

    Yo G’Boyz….for every male Bucs fan….there is a GF…wife…mom…auntie…sister…G’mom….

  33. Jeagan1999 Says:

I was extremely hesitant about drafting Jameis, just based on the off the field things that happened at FSU, but he’s been a model citizen since joining the Bucs. I think, based on this latest evidence, that this uber driver is looking for a payout and has ZERO evidence that Jameis did anything improper or illegal! Which is a shame all the way around! How dare she try to ruin his career, and make it even harder for women who actually have been mistreated, to be believed.

  34. Waterboy Says:

What law was broken? If there was a law broken then there must be a lot of people in hollywood and politics nervous right now.

  35. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Shut up dude, you’re supposed to defend your team until they are proven guilty. Jameis is a young man enjoying life, he’s our quarterback and if you don’t like it then find another team.

  38. Mord Says:

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Even if Jameis was in the back seat, the culture of his friendships at this stage in his career (and indeed his life) should completely preclude anything like this happening.

If he’s still hanging out with friends who would do something like this, then he hasn’t learned, grown-up, or changed enough yet.

I suspect he’ll survive this in some relative state of exoneration, but I think this may effectively limit his potential for stardom, endorsements, respect, etc …

  42. Joel Says:

Joe: there was no settlement from Winston. Both parties agreed to dismiss their lawsuits against one another.

  43. Joel Says:

The fact she hired same lawyer gives her ZERO credibility.

Already a hole in her story.

  44. Doctor Stroud Says:

Perhaps, the Buccaneers might need to hire a security detail for Jameis Winston, either to keep him out of trouble (for those who have already found him guilty) or to keep trouble from finding him (for those who argue that no law was broken). Either way, this ain’t working. The fan base is at each others’ throats over this divisive issue. He’s a grown man, and the front office (and fans) shouldn’t have to worry about a “leader” doing something off the field to hurt the team. Is the coaching staff not challenging him enough?

  50. Buc1987 Says:

    Is it Gloria Alread again?

  51. Buc_The_World Says:

I find it funny how all of you who keep talking about Jamies as if he is guilty regarding Kingsman continue to look past the fact this was investigated 3 times, that Kingsman refused to go to the police it was her friend that made her go and once she did go she changed her story several times. Her own friends testimony says she did not appear to intoxicated. Her rape kit showed that she had not been raped. All of these details are in the transcripts which none of you bothered to read because you don’t care about facts. You just wanna judge everybody like you yourself are perfect. You guys would have fit right in at the Salem witch trials. Then you act like you are so concerned with sexual assault victims, if you really cared about sexual assault you would despise women like Kingsman and this uber driver who benefit from real sexual assault victims and get paid for it. If you don’t wanna like Jamies that is your right, but to want this man’s life and career ruined because somebody said he did something with no proof show you are just a hateful scumbag. This man spent his whole life to get to this point to think people could just dismiss that because someone claims he did something. Be careful it could happen to you as well.

  52. Pierce Says:

God I’m so frustrated at Jameis but damn this seems more and more like a money grab. I’m still pissed at Jameis for putting himself in this position. You don’t see 90% of the othe QB’s talked about like this!

  53. NFLNut Says:

    *****************

I TOLD ALL OF YOU THIS WAS A MONEY-GRAB.

I’m NOT in Jameis’ inner circle but I know some stuff other people may not be privy too.

I am truly hoping Jameis sues the pants off this lady!

The problem is … she’s broke and he’s a millionaire athlete, so she doesn’t really have anything to lose by filing a mere civil case.

The American court system is a joke … people like this need to do serious JAIL TIME if they are found to have wrongly accused someone!

That Jameis is going through this a second time with an attorney obviously looking for vengeance is just terrible for Jameis … even when he wins, he will have spent big $$$$$ defending himself against frivolous claims and these shady ladies know that … even if they lose, they cost him money so in their minds they won … sick.

    *****************

  54. lurker Says:

did not know who ronald darby is…same dude who defended winston at fsu in the sexual assult case.

    as per espn:
    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21474012/attorney-representing-uber-driver-asks-nfl-investigate-ronald-darby-defense-jameis-winston

  55. Bob in Valrico Says:

I hope this is investigated fairly so nobody becomes the victim in it without cause .Personally’
I think Jameis should have named everybody in the car and where they were sitting
long ago. It is a little suspicious because so far there is only an unnamed front
    seat passenger.
Don’t really buy the planned money grab thing, right now its two he saids to one she said and anybody in the passenger seat did nothing inappropriate, then
    let him come forward.

  56. Lions Says:

Darby protecting Jamies again. Organizations culture is created whether you like the culture or not it gets created, Same for any business. If you want your Organization to have a certain culture than you have to create it and not wait for it to be created because you might not like what gets created. Then hire people and players that have that mindset and represent what you want the team to be. See Miami Heat and our own Lightning team. It always seems Bucs owners don’t have that vision and Licht has done a poor job of getting the proper players. Can you imagine what GMC would do in the Patriots org, there is only one way to do it on that team. That is why so many players achieve in that culture.

  57. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Oh yeah! A credible witness Ronald Darby!!?? are you all fooking kidding???? Read that ESPN article…yeah, it sums it all up..

Even Darby has probably told Jameis..” OK bud, I will defend you one more time, let this be the last one, if you can”..

Yeah..get rid of Jameis!!! He’s a cancer starting to form into an incurable state..

  58. Trubucfan22 Says:

I️ guarantee you that the lawyer contacted her. Just like he contacted The first girl. Lawyers will call these people and tell them they can make a fortune. And they do it at no charge if they lose. What do they have to lose?!? These cases end in a settlement 99.99% of the time. Legal settlement or under the table makes no difference.

  59. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Joe

I’m no attorney but I believe you have offered two extremes that are not necessarily true in this or any case. Yes attorneys can be very expensive…yes some of them will do it pro bono if they believe in their client…but mostly what happens is in the middle…contingency attorneys…they take the case for no money but get a huge cut if they win.

If this is the case for Kinsman’s attorney that is horrible news for #3 because it means that attorney thinks #3 is once again ripe for the picking.

Listen the media did not make #3 do all of those immature things at FSU that turned out to be FACTS. The media did not make #3 go for a 2AM Uber ride juiced up with the same moron who recorded him having sex and almost cost #3 his spot at the top of the draft.

Spare me the pity please. Nobody is saying #3…at least not me…grabbed the girl is guilty. But given his history…how close he came to losing the @1 spot in the draft…he IS guilty of very bad judgment damaging his own rep and that of his team.

Again there is a price to be paid by ALL famous celebrities…especially if they already have a Jameis Winston rep. Boo freaking hoo…so he has to take some of those millions of dollars and protect himself!!! It’s not THAT HARD! Again why are the other multimillionaire Bucs not subject to blackmail from grifting gold diggers? Because they are SMART enough to protect themselves.

  60. Trubucfan22 Says:

Pierce, the other QBs are smart enough to pay them off before it gets out. We live in a society where you need to have everyone you have any contact with sign a contract saying you didn’t assault them. Or you pay them thousands because they are blackmailing you.

  61. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    LifeOfABucFan

You believe Ronald Darby is not a credible source but you believe BuzzFeed is a credible source. Hypocrite!

  62. Nole4JabooANDdbucs Says:

So Jameis is suppose to cut a loose anyone from his past as if he was guilty. Such double standards especially if you are a black wealthy man in America!

    1. It started in a club called Potbelly.
Actually Kinsman was talking to one of JW’s friend’s first, but at the final analyst chose JW the QB. She was asked if she was coming with THEM and said yes and climbed in a cab with the football players. Kinsman texted her friends gloating, was trying to entise her friends to join them and she left with Jameis and his friends. So they left in a CAB and no handcuffs, gun to her head or any restraints.

    2. Jameis and Kinsman had consensual sex in his room, behind a door with NO lock. In an apartment with other roommates one of which was Darby! (He is a friend is that a crime?)

    3. The only thing JW was guilty of was cheating on his girlfriend (not wife)!

    4. Later after Jameis and Kinsman had sat talking…he rode her on the back of his bike, ( I am sure she had to wrap her arms around his waist) and took her to her dorm all was good…til she and her friends had a chat🤔

    5. Now fast forward to the Uber driver some dude grab her private and she had 3 passengers 2 in the back one in the front…but Kate didn’t know his name so she used the one name
    on the account (Jameis)

    6. Like in a line up, you are not sure so you just pick one of the two black dudes in the back🤔

    7. Now this gets reported by some hyped, half informed reporter it makes national news and naturally the vulture of a lawyer seeks Kate out because he saw a mark he had hit before Jameis Winston! And told her she was going to get paid!

    8.SAD👿😈👹

  63. lurker Says:

sad that jameis is still making poor decisions.

  64. lurker Says:

    with and without the football…lol

  65. Buc2015 Says:

stpete — in the Kinsman “incident”, Darby wasn’t the one who allegedly video recorded some of the act, that was Chris Casher (he admitted to it). And note in EK’s version of the story, there was no roommate taking cell phone video. But she did mention the roommate with dreads (Darby) as being one who tried to tell Jameis to stop what he was doing. So in Kinsman’s version, Darby was the good guy.

  66. Shane Says:

Same legal council as Kinsman ????? Why? Oh why can’t people see through this??? Why???
