“Looked Like A Different Offense”

Radical change

Defensive coordinator Mike Smith has been watching film and doing double-takes.

How did Drew Brees get suffocated and abused by the Bucs two Sundays ago, at all levels of the defense, and then go rack up 48 points on the Cardinals in Arizona.

Smith said today at One Buc Palace is a different quarterback in domes, especially at the one in New Orleans.

“Looked like a different offense,” Smith said.

He want on to talk about how the Bucs would have to deliver different looks and a new game plan for Brees and Sean Payton.

In the Saints win two games ago, the Bucs rarely blitzed and survived and thrived on extraordinarily tight coverage. Brees was picked three times and dumped once, by Robert Ayers.

Joe is most intrigued by the match-up of playcallers here, Payton and Dirk Koetter. There should be a unique advantage for a skilled game-planner after seeing a team so recently. The defenses certainly haven’t changed much.

Great chess game ahead for some great coaches. Joe likes the Bucs odds, especially with the Saints’ porous defense.

Hoping we have a much better offensive showing this time around. Really need to get Dotson back healthy this week.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We must get extreme pressure on Brees…….we cannot let him pick us apart.

Also, we need to score about 35 points Sunday…….something needs to change with our offense and quickly.

  3. vinsane38 Says:

Mike Evans needs more targets. With Cameron Brate effectively the #2 receiver, I do not buy the argument that the absence of a #2 WR negatively affects Evans.

    #burnBreaux

  4. Waterboy Says:

Not to mention Michael Thomas will be back for this one. Tampa’s offense has to step it up this week. Hopefully they’ll find an effective running game to help control the clock and give the defense time to rest.

  5. Dano Says:

Bucs offense needs to improve a lot. This game will be very tough.

  6. ShutTheBucUp Says:

There was a good amount of luck the last time around as well. Brees not seeing a few wide open receivers, endzone drops, etc… Need to play a lot better this time.

  7. Waterboy Says:

Tampa lacks a #2 WR and a running game, teams are solely focusing on taking Evans out of the game. Especially in the red zone.

  8. Supersam Says:

Don’t have a great feeling about the next 2 games. But I guess we’ll see what happens.

  9. pick6 Says:

bucs will need to play a much better game than they did in Tampa. Bucs defense came to play and did well, but as the head coach noted, they got help from 2 flat out dropped TDs. The saints were also down one starting WR and i believe their starting Center.

Need lots more from the offense

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

Rots of ruck expecting to hold NO to 11 points again. The Bucs need to score near thirty to take the sweep.

  11. Jason Says:

“In the Saints win two games ago,…”
    Um, what? Bucs won!! 😜

  12. NutterBuccer Says:

We need to get back to running the ball. It’s no coincidence that the run as been stifled last 3 games and Mike Evans has too. Let’s get quiz and barber more involved. I know it’s not all on Doug Martin and the oline is to blame also, but quiz seems to run better this year and gets bigger gains. How about throwing it on first down also. I’m a 30 year old who played pee wee football and some high school and I could tell you by the second half that running the ball and continually giving Dallas 2nd and long wasn’t going to work. Let’s go BUCs with all the other playoff teams still playing one another and having tough oppenents we still pretty much control our destiny. Let’s go 2-0 and get back to the postseason.

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

We need to put up like 27 I think to win this time. Go bucs

  14. tdtb2015 Says:

The real match up is Brees and Payton vs Mike Smith and the defense.

I still like our odds. But Winston better cross his “t’s” and dot his “i’s!”

Rodgers needs to be activated. We need a second choice in the running game, if Martin doesn’t show up.

  15. GhostofTedford Says:

Like to see more run game but Nick Fairley up front stuffed our run play after play. Where is Marpet and (Fill in the blank / JR Lazy) the other guard?

  16. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

No worries people Mike Smith will the green light he didn’t have in dallas this week’s game. Go back and watch the game, on they’re first drive around our 40 zek runs for 13 yards hurdles and is tackled thereafter. Now when you replay it you will see gmc stands up at snap of the ball takes two steps to right opening the hole ultimately being turned backwards by the o linemen. S$!# look like he knew the play was coming and acted accordingly. Tyrin Smith is in my opinion the best left tackle in the game,SPAWN was running right by him from the start of the game drawing a holding penalty on him late in the game. When we face the second time they will not be able protect pressy. Much like n.o. won’t be able to protect brees when we have a green light.

  17. JJBucFan Says:

Man I hope you’re right Nole, playing not to lose both on offense and defense will make you lose every time…see Dallas game for example. Come out and throw the kitchen sink at the Saints. If we lose, we went out swinging. I think it gives us our best chance of winning, stop trying to run the clock out in the 3rd quarter. Koetter must mix up his play calling better and Smith better forget the cover “poop” because Brees will eat us alive.

  18. Pickgrin Says:

So lemme get this straight NOS-BOS.

You believe that every NFL coach and player is in on this conspiracy to 100% control the outcome of NFL games? Have I got that right?

  19. The bucfan 88 Says:

I know a lot of u don’t want to hear this but I think that Dallas game got the offense more focused think about for a min Jameis has been playing game manager these last three weeks & I think they got a lil lazy in there minds there thinking don’t worry the defense will get it done but in Dallas showed us that we need to score to win I still have faith he if it wasn’t meant for us to go to the playoffs then Washington would have won Monday let’s keep the faith Peyton matter what I’m proud to be a buc fan

  20. Tampa Tony Says:

Bucs offense needs to show up this time. That porous Saints defense contained the offense easily

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Brees plays better at home. Its gonna be a harder than last one for the Bucs.
I did not pick them in my pool this coming week. Since I’ve won 5 times this yr, I’m in the running for the 3 grand prize!! I hope I am wrong about the outcome though. Still got the Bucs finishing 8-8.

  22. Tampa Tony Says:

8-8 would be a bummer after getting to 8-5

  23. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Never lose the faith Bucs fans! Go Bucs! Let’s go beat these Saints!!

  24. Trubucfan22 Says:

Man it must be nice for Brees to have 3 legitimate starting WRs, and a decent TE, and a couple of good RBs. What does Jameis have? A WR and a TE?

Mike smith’s defense will need to pull out another miracle to win this game. Even against a porous defense, our offense can not score 30 pts. We are just depleted of talent on offense. no one should expect the bucs offense to score more than 20 against any team tbh.

I certainly can’t see us winning a shoot out against the saints. The only way we win is with a suffocating defense. Do it again D. The offense needs you to win us another.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

May the best team win. The Aints defense isn’t Dallas, Kansas City, Seattle, even the Panthers as far as a quality unit goes. DK outsmarts Payton by calling a better offense, and the young guys rise to the occasion. Hopefully, Smith will catch the blitz bug, and let GMC, LVD and the Kwonster loose. FameilJ will keep his cool, too. Bucs will win 1, if not both, of these last 2 games. 2-0: start new winning streak. 🙂 Go Tampa Bay!!

***Joe: how about posting a countdown clock for Christmas Eve?
