Simply Pathetic

October 25th, 2015
Shameful defense.

Shameful defense.

This was a joke of a game and it almost seems to Joe that the Bucs defense under Lovie Smith is gutless.

Almost.

That is pretty harsh, yes, but how do you explain the following?

The rotten Redskins, down 24-0, lost three starters on defense to injury, including stud Ryan Kerrigan to a broken hand. Yet their defense found a way to win, found a way to rise up, found a way to suck it up, and found a way to stop the Bucs offense in the second half.

Yet on the other side of the coin, the Bucs’ defense, up 24-0, totally folds like a tent.

Folds!

If this is what you expect from a defense to close out games, then dare Joe suggest that the defense needs to be ripped apart and built from scratch?

You have to be kidding, Joe!

There is no way around it. If you are up 24 points on Kirk Cousins — Kirk Freaking Cousins! — and in the second half he tears apart your defense like a Pasco County seven-on-seven summer league defense, then you have major problems with your team. Andd it is time to start planning a significant renovation that may just include coaching changes.

An NFL defense that is properly coached up simply cannot be this shameful. And it was shameful.

Every member of that Bucs defense needs to cut a video for the next home game and have it displayed on the sacred analog video boards apologizing to fans for such a shameful performance.

There simply is no justifiable excuse for what took place today at FedEx Field. Joe is certain Team Glazer is going to demand answers to very hard questions after this debacle.

This defense is so bad, you wish it was only undisciplined.

Is this what Lovie Smith is trying to pass off as growing?

This defense doesn’t belong in a hunt for a wild card spot.  It belongs in the FXFL chasing Josh Freeman’s fumbles. Maybe that way it can get a meaningful stop?

    To the Glazers:

I’m a lifelong Bucs fan, and will always be. I will continue to root for this team, no matter how bleak things may seem.

However, I will no longer purchase a single piece of Bucs apparel, nor attend a Bucs game, as long as Lovie Smith is the Head Coach. I do not understand how this level of play is accepted in week in and week out by the ownership.

While you are content with the product on the field, based on your lack of action, I am not, and I will no longer be supporting this team with my hard earned dollars, while your apathy on the matter remains.

I will always hope for this team to win, and will watch as long as I don’t have to pay for it, but beyond that, you’ll be getting no further financial backing from me.

While there still may be some willing to pay for the mess that is presented to us, that number will be dwindling with every loss, and not all will come back.

  2. Bucskid17 Says:

I know that firing Lovie won’t do any good but they just have to do it

  3. lightningbuc Says:

The only thing Team Glazer will demand tomorrow is to know if the City of Tampa has made their monthly payment yet.

  4. Clint Says:

They were just too conservative on offense too. Tried to just kind of hang onto the lead. Today was the best I’ve ever seen Winston throw the ball in the pros. Could have hung 40+ on Washington.

  5. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

We’re going to be ok once we fire Lovie and move on. Until then we can look forward to horrible defense, penalties galore, scared coward coaching and a commitment to losing. Not even Jameis can save Lovie’s useless ass.

  6. "TheKevin" Says:

Who cares. Change everything same results. Don’t you all get it?

    It doesn’t matter.

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

should i still be waiting for it?

  8. JTHV Says:

Good news is, I just bought 2 50 yard line seats for the Giants game from my buddy who is a steelers fan. Bad news is, my buddy who is a steelers fan isn’t going to renew his Bucs tickets until Lovie is gone.

  9. Omg Says:

Why I don’t read any where that Lovie is fired? Fire him now. We should protest about this. We need to make
    Our voices heard.

  10. Casey Walk Says:

I second that notion T in Orlando. Fire Lovie tonight!!!! And let Dirk take over as interim HC. This loss was completely embarrassing and further proves Lovie is incompetent beyond belief

  11. Tom Edrington Says:

So what is the Over/Under on when the Joe(s) will actually step up and call for Lovie’s ouster?

  12. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

I’ve seen dozens of pathetic come from behind losses in my 40 seasons as a diehard Bucs fan, and today was up there with the worst of them. Yes, the players collapsed on the field, but they are young men. Lovie is supposed to lead them. Settle them down. Keep them confident when things begin to go bad. They must be doubting Lovie, his scheme, his ability, and his competence. Their family and friends certainly will be talking to them. The D is pathetic.

  13. JTHV Says:

Oh btw, 2 seats in section 111 Row Z for $100 total.

    Anybody want them?? $250

  14. mark2001 Says:

Anyone that thinks Lovie has any answers, after seeing his 4-18 here and before that in Chicago, that thinks Jenkins is the glue…. must be sniffing glue..or some other mind altering substance.

  15. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Agree Joe!

Ultimately this falls on Lovie. This was the last winnable game for a month! And Lovie couldn’t win it. I wouldn’t be surprised if, in fact I HOPE, the Glazers have started their search, search for a new head coach.

Other than that, I think Doug Martin will still be a Buc next season.

  16. mdc1969 Says:

Team is a joke. Starts with OWNERSHIP!

  17. Tampa Tony Says:

Garbage. Just a awful inflexible coach

  18. Gus Says:

Want to know something crazy. The Redskins coming into this game were the worse 3rd quarter team in the league…….let that sink in

  19. Pawel Says:

Wow all of you are HARSH, you cant win every game, plus there is improvement and I am sure Lovie will handle this differently next time. The offense played great, give some credit sheesh, you guys expect every game to be perfect.

  20. buddysbonecrushers Says:

During the first half, I was seeing what this team could be. Jamies is really good. The oline is gelling, and the running game is awesome. i can’t believe I am saying this: If this was Schiano’s team, they would be winning. Hopefully I won’t be saying that about Lovie in two years.

  21. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This game simply confirms what the first game made us suspect. This team is not tough and is very poorly coached and undisciplined.

    But here is the question!

dare Joe suggest that defense needs to be ripped apart and built from scratch?

Dare Joe! Dare! I wondering if it’s not time for a fire sale of GMC and LVD for the highest draft pick packages we can acquire. Eventually you toss in MG8 and before you know it when you combine all the additional picks with what might be another very high pick for us…Joey Bosa or is he overrated?. We load up on defense now that our OL appears to have a little depth. Three young corps players..with Pamphile joining Marpet and Smith and another year of vets to hold down the fort…Mankins..Dotson..Smith for depth…we can blow up our defense for draft picks and start over!!! Our defense is gutless and simply does not know how to win. It’s as simple as that. We need some major changes.

  22. DraftJameis Says:

We’re all gonna look back at these times and laugh.

Jameis will have this team in the playoffs in two years. Lovie will be gone, and there will be brighter days ahead.

  23. Joe Says:

I know that firing Lovie won’t do any good

You mean another coach can do worse? How?

  24. PRBucFan Says:

    Lovie is a joke

  25. marylandbuc Says:

undisciplined and gutless…..McCoy once again a total non-factor in outcome of game..Fairly obvious game has passed Lovie by as he is totally outcoached and never seems to adapt to game situations……PLEASE, its time for some new blood

  26. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

It looked like the light came on for Winston today. He had the same look on his face as he had at FSU, that’s the first time I’ve seen it with the Bucs. It’s tough to describe the look, but it’s like he knows something that the defense doesn’t know and he’s about to exploit it.

I would have liked to see Koetter trust Winston at the goal line with 2 minutes and change left. Trusting a backup RB with a finesse game and no power on 3rd and inches was craziness.

Those of you calling for Lovie’s head and wanting Koetter to be promoted should look a little closer. The defense gave up way too many yards and points, but the game was lost on offense with that 3rd and goal play.

  27. The Rockstar Says:

The defenses idea is to bend, don’t break and try to cause turnovers in the meantime. So during practice they spend time picking up loose balls, tip drills…catching. That is all great and stuff but instead spending their precious little time (as regulated be the collectivist bargaining agreement) on that maybe they should focus on STOPPING THE OPPOSING OFFENSE. The Offensive has improved and is rushing well, the quarterback is developing nicely. Heck even the place kicker is consistent. The Bucs do not need to depend on the defense to score. JUST DO YOUR JOB.

  28. GhostofSchiano Says:

I have spent just over $400.00 on tickets for my son and I to attend 2 games this year. Another 100 on Bucs apparel, i feel ripped off. I am a blue collar worker, i punch a clock and after 26 years of loving this team my love has grown cold. Not another dime, not a minute of my time to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until this fool Lovie Smith is fired. I have had enough.

  29. buccsFantical2015 Says:

We have only 1 option Fire Lovie give Dirk the intrm HC and see if he can save this mess, look we have a great team we Great Talent, I Beleive Lict has done a wonderful job, but these guys need to be held accountable and taught some Discipline, so I say give Dirk a chsnce, maybe offer Derek Brooks the DC, I would still like to see us Bring back Gruden but dont think the Glaziers would but that would be exactly the temperment we need in this locker room..

  30. GhostofSchiano Says:

Before someone jumps to lovies defense (no pun intended) did you see lovie talking to Marpet on the sideline after the unsportsmanlike call? Soft@$$ lovie all calm and crap, Bill Cowher or Bill Parcells would have chewed him out so bad no one on the whole team would have dared committed another penalty. Lovie is SOFT. Too soft for todays game

  31. Educated Bucs Fan Says:

Jameis is the future. Lovie is the past. Dirk Koetter is the Future. GMC and LVD got handed their a$$. Hire Dirk Koetter as the HC now and resign our bell cow.

Lovie is the past. Let’s get away from this loser fast.

  32. Trubucfan22 Says:

If lovie is fired now, leslie frazier will most likely be the interim HC. HOW DOES THAT HELP THIS TEAM? Frazier is the only buc coach woth the experience, and koetter does not want to be a HC.

So be careful what you wish for. Firing lovie does not help this team. The defense will be the same defense, with the same terrible defensive coaching.

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    StPete

The problem with the fire sale is no other teams value LVD as highly as bucs fans. He has been horrendous this year. What team is A) in a position to eat his cap number and B) which team is going to gamble they get the good LVD under schiano… Second, and related no team is going to give up anything for GMC again he is an over payed, overrated player that is good but far from great. He does not change games nor does he make plays at critical times during a game. Teams are not going to give up picks nor eat the high salaries for players that are not game changers. Just because GMC is the best player on a horrendous bucs defense does not make him great. I just don’t see any team willing to give up picks and destroy their caps on gambles. It’s not like LVD was all pro or pro bowl consistently before this year he has very little track record. I personally like LVD and believe he will be fine under a different system but that is an awufl big gamble for a gm to make both giving up picks and eating salary cap. GMC is just overrated I think teams see that. He has a great first step but no fire, no heart and does not change games. MG8 will fetch a 5th round pick at best hardly going to rebuild using that pick.

  34. Fire the Ice Says:

Here’s what it is … firing lovie creates a team who’s fired 4 couches in 6 years.

Who the fu*#&%*k would take that job? Under owners who want to to pull 2 home games a year to Europe??

    U fans are idiots.

  35. Trubucfan22 Says:

Who is this joke trying to scalp tickets for a team no one wants to watch?

  36. Greg Says:

    #firelovie

  37. Ryan Says:

Wednesday at 5 should be fun with the Lovie apologist

  38. GhostofSchiano Says:

Look what Campbell has done in Miami, he inspired a team, they are playing with passion. Marshmallow@$$ lovie cannot even hold a 24 point lead.

  39. JTHV Says:

Scalp tickets?? Giant fans will pay 250 each for them. Who uses the term “scalp” anymore??? Idiot.

  40. Clodhopper Says:

I’m not taking any blame from Lovie but Im sick of our crappy team leader. Yet again we are mentally weak with no backbone. Same ol same ol. Did you hear his name today? Except a penalty? Same defensive philosophy since he got here: Any kind of adversity and cower in the corner like a an effing child. The third coach with this “leader” and it’s the same coward ways. Ray Lewis just on the sidelines and not playing would have won this game, but Gerald will never get this team out of a game day setback. He’s had too any opportunities and always fails

  41. Fire and Ice Says:

Well at least u Jamies haters have shat ur bed.

  42. Fire and Ice Says:

Bucs are a defense and a field goal kicker away from 5-1 (JW lost vs Car)

  43. Tampa Tony Says:

Anyone who thinks a coaching change wont help look at Miami

  44. tmaxcon Says:

    Fire the Ice

doing nothing and allowing lovie to continue to the same garbage every week and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. so who really is the idiot.

  45. marylandbuc Says:

Game was lost on poor coaching and an even worse secondary and very little pressure on Cousins…..16 penalties means lack of discipline and lack of coaching

  46. ChrisCo4Bucs Says:

Been a fan since I was 5 years old growing up in NC, and now I want to burn all my sh$t, and I have a lot of sh$t, fed up, Lovie doesn’t have a clue, ownership sucks a$$, 16 GD penalties……really……., sick of this garbage, never thought I would even dream of pulling for someone else, but right now I’m thinking hard

  47. ATrain Says:

Thank you Tony. Glad someone on here watches football..

    You Lovie fans kill me…

Just because the Glazers made another coach mistake doesn’t mean you keep him…

Nothing about Lovie says keep him…
Team lost to a Loser after a bye week with a 24 point lead.
.No excuse for that…You think any other owner wouldn’t have fired Lovie as he walked off the field..

  48. Red86 Says:

If we get rid of Lovie (which I don’t approve of yet), then we are still stuck with the same soft overrated players on defense. The core of our defense cough up a win versus the Giants when Freeman was the qb. As well as other games during Rah’s and Greg era. So, yeah getting rid of the coach is a good idea. (Sarcasm)

I agree our defensive players need to be moved. Starting with the defensive line. McCoy only got 2 tackles all game…REALLY?? Stars of team play with consistency and make clutch plays often (not always). There are several times he disappeared when it matter most. What I don’t get is how can a team be down 24-0 comeback when you know they are going to pass mode? That is the time the d line should be having a field day with sacks and qb hits. That’s a career day type situation for the defense. Cousin Threw 40 times while they ran just 19 times. But nooo, we have the same ole non production from the front four.

It’s not the cover 2 the problem. If Seattle didn’t have their d line, then people will be saying Cover 3 don’t work. All defensive scheme requires the d line or d line and linebackers to get pressure. All scheme whether it’s 43 or 34 has the same concept of zone and man to man. Changing our scheme will not help. It’s our soft defensive players to blame. They lack the killer instinct, gut, and composure to fight in tough situation.

  49. BucFan20 Says:

So which player goes on FOX 13 this week and says they let up because they felt the game was won and over. Danny L again?

  50. Simpleasthat Says:

Why is anyone so surprised? Typical piss poor bush league Lovie football.

  51. Matt Says:

We can’t just name Dirk HC . How would he perform his duties as HC and OC at the same time . Results on offense would be best if we just left him alone . We gotta pay Lovie the rest of the year and then when the season is over go get harbough from Michigan . Do whatever it is we can too get him, my only thing I want too stay on board with us is mr Dirk Koetter OC. He’s a genius . Him and Winston belong too each other . He turned Martin into a stud again . He got things going in Tampa . Mr harbough and him would be a nice combo . Defensive coordinator is a must find . As is Cb and S . Nobody is doing well right now . As much as I want a CB in the draft I want Emmanuel ogbah DE from OSU .Hes a beast

  52. Tony West Says:

You only fire Lovie if you promote Koetter to HC. Look how much Winston is improving. He’s the real deal folks. you can’t subject him to the constant carousel of coaching and coordinator changes that will ruin him. The 2016 version of winston (after he’s improved for a year) would have this exact team at 4-2 right now and would have won the texans and Skins games. Continuity is key on the offensive side of things.

  53. sho-nuff Says:

    gutless

  54. passthebuc Says:

    You cannot fix stupid/
Lovie never gets into the face of the players when they commit penalties. 200 yards of penalties. That along with the prevent defense which does nothing but prevent winning.
Sorry Joe, you can sing praises of your offensive boy all you want but they could not get it done when it counted. On the defensive side, any comment would be superfluous

  55. BucFan20 Says:

This has become as common a theme here in Buc Land. Glennon, McClown and now Winston. They all could, or in Winston’s case now, can get this team in a lead. Most of the time a good lead. So where has the problem always been? Just where it is Now. This defense has allowed over 21 points usually 31. What QB and offense is ever going to win with that happening?

  56. Bucs_Fan_Cayman_Islands Says:

Love is simply not tough enough on these guys and his “players coach” attitude is not gaining him the respect he should be getting from his players. I saw after a stupid penalty for kicking an opponent that he just goes over to the guy on the bench and gives him a “love tap” on the shoulder most likely telling him softly that “you can’t do that” while someone like Coughlin wild have ripped him a new one. We need fire in our bellies, especially the defense. Our offense stuttered for years and now that we finally have something positive going on O (despite early season predictions about he bad our O-line is, we are doing quite wel), we now have a soft defense that can’t close out games to second string QB’s. It is beyond painful to watch leads slip away every week due to stupidity and it has to stop.

Not only coaches but players also need to step up or step out. On paper we are much better than this. It also doesn’t help the front line when we have crap pass coverage who can’t lock down anyone long enough to force the QB into making mistakes, like holding onto the ball, then giving the line a chance to get some pressure.

We need a coach with some attitude man, we are not disciplined and Lovie is not the one to change that!
