The Team Glazer Choice

Joe’s been saying this for months, and nothing has changed: Team Glazer is the entity that would make the Buccaneers’ No. 1 overall pick tonight, and it chose Jameis Winston.
Play with words and talk about personnel roles all you want, this is Team Glazer’s choice. Not only was there another viable quarterback prospect to be chosen, Marcus Mariota, but the Bucs could have traded down.
Regardless, it is Team Glazer that owns the $1 billion Buccaneers business. The odds are a franchise quarterback will be with the team far longer than Lovie Smith or Jason Licht. So it made sense that Team Glazer would have a very heavy hand. Rightfully so.
As Joe’s written multiple times, just because Team Glazer signs off on the choice of its leadership team, that doesn’t mean Team Glazer didn’t make the call.
The owners did the right thing tonight. Joe was certain this would happen, after looking in Joel Glazer’s eyes.
Drafting Winston was a bold move, and a move all-in for greatness. Joe suspects Team Glazer’s patriarch, Malcolm Glazer, is smiling in the heavens.

Very true Idaho, I can accept Winston even if I’m not sold on him even being mediocre in the NFL. Manziel would have tested my Buc fandom almost to the limit as if they had brought in Mike Vick last year.

Glazers whiffed on selling alarm clock number merchandise with the Schiano firing/Lovie hiring, so I can see how they would be heavy handed with the pick in hopes of moving merchandise.

I’m excited about the potential but we’d be crazy not to be a little worried about off field issues. I hope Bucs have a plan in place for him and he keeps it together because he can be awesome if it works out. I’m neither for or against it but I’m taking a wait and see approach.

I’m on the verge of no longer being a fan. I suffered through listening to this team on the radio growing up, all because the team sucked too much to be on TV. I suffered through the post-Gruden years. I’m sick and tired of this team being terrible.
That being said, why is Jameis Winston the answer? He of 18 picks? He of the off the field issues that no #1 pick has ever had? It doesn’t make any sense, on or off the field. When was the last time a #1 pick had these off and on field concerns? Never?
And again, I”m sick and tired of being marginalized because I vehemently disagree with this decision. You Famous Jameis fans should do some serious soul searching regarding the way you’ve treated people who disagree with you. You are the ones destroying the fanbase.

Polkcountydude – your so offended because you are clearly overlooking the on the field talent that Jameis has. Yes he threw 18 interceptions. And 25 TD passes. And won every game he played except the Oregon game. His leadership with his team mates is exeptional, his IT factor in refusing to loose is one of the best I have seen. His ability to come back and play better when the game is on the line is so compelling. You can choose to ignore those absolute facts all you want, but it is those qualities that make us love this guy. He is a true warrior and the Bucs will be better off for it. But you wont hear any of that I am sure, you’ll just keep that myopic view on the negitives.
