No Issue With Jameis’ Gut

Former Bucs QB Shaun King is not worried about Jameis Winston’s belly.

A couple of months ago, a picture floated the Interwebs purported to be soon-to-be Bucs first-round pick Jameis Winston, shirtless, with a pronounced belly hanging over his shorts.

This sent the haters into orbit.

Since, it seems Winston shed his innertube. But even if he still had his pouch, it doesn’t matter, said former Bucs quarterback Shaun King.

Appearing on the Ron and Ian Show yesterday live from the Derrick Brooks Charities golf outing, King, who is one of but three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to an NFL Championship game, said Winston’s conditioning or lack thereof is of no concern to him.

“He looked fine,” King said of Winston, who was also in the golf outing. “The last quarterback that was buffed up was Brady Quinn and he didn’t do too well so I don’t want [Winston] to look like he spends that much time in the weight room.

“I lifted all the time and I still never had any abs; never did.”

King, like most right-thinking Bucs fans, believes Winston will be a major asset to Tampa Bay and a harbinger of good things to come for this moribund franchise.

“I am excited,” King said. “I can’t wait to hear the first pick so we can welcome [Winston] and put the Bucs back where they should be in the NFL hierarchy.”

Of course King doesn’t have a problem if Winston (or ANYONE else) is a little pudgy. They look ‘buff’ next to him.

  2. Buccfan305 Says:

That pic was photo shopped. Haters!!!

  3. Ski Bucs Fan Says:

Tom Brady was certainly a physical specimen when he was drafted, Right?

    3. This entire article is crap.

Come on, Mariota Joe. Try to keep it a little more classy.

Things that make a quality QB (in order):

    Head
    Arm
    Legs

@ tampabaybucfan…i love you’re counter to the Joe’s ridiculous ” king one of three quarter back crap” you’re right on with you’re assessment.

  11. Harry Says:

“I lifted all the time and I still never had any abs; never did.”

That is too funny. Really Joe? King is not exactly who you want to use to excuse JW’s belly. The only thing “lifted” are cheeseburgers and beer, lol

Tampabaybucs fan why do you always put… In your sentences. It’s not proper grammar.

  14. Bill Says:

I want a QB who spends his time in the film room. Some are blessed with chiseled bodies, others aren’t. If my QB has “spare” time, go ahead and spend it in the weight room.

The curious fact here is that every QB with an impressive physique seems like he could use more time in the film room, lol. Pick your poison carefully.

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Great! Now lets have Shaun King promote Xenadrine & MY 6-Week Fat-Burning Workout. Why not call Jared Lorenzen, to see if he wouldn’t mind joining the promo as well.

  16. Gator N Bucs Says:

    Haven’t even read the article……………..ROTFLMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shaun King not having a problem with Jameis’ gut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL
He wishes HE had Jameis’ gut!

  17. MTM Says:

“I never had abs and I lifted weights”. News flash King lifting weights doesn’t give you abs. My only issue with Winston is the fact that he had to loose weight right after the college football season ended to prepare for the combine. That doesn’t really scream hard worker. Its shows Winston is not worried as long as he can throw. IMO.

  18. robert 9 Says:

not that big an issue with the gut………

IF HE WAS NOT A QB GETTING READY FOR THE DRAFT AND TO BE THE #1 PICK!!!!

    oh well, spin on….

  19. Buc Neckid Says:

Internet don’t need no stinkin Grammar…

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

This had to be a setup to ridicule King. Pile on fit ones.

  21. Greg Says:

I have so many comments I dont know where to start… Shaun “Super size me” King doesnt have a problem with it? Really?

I don’t know if this was the only contributing factor, but, he played on a sprained ankle from the Louisville game on through the rest of the season. Not enough to miss game time, but, I doubt he was conditioning much. Was he already carrying extra weight? I don’t know.

Things worth hearing Shaun’s opinion on

    Burger joints
    Buffets
    High cholesterol
Not being able to muster up 12 points

Things not worth hearing his opinion on

    Football
    Staying thin

  27. cmurda Says:

Finally a voice of reason from Shaun King. It’s great to know that I’m surrounded by fitness experts on this message board. Maybe I’ll get motivated to be in tip-top shape like the vast majority of you apparently are.

  28. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Jameis has an endorsment deal justing waiting for the ink to dry with a prominent Lap Band surgeon

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Winston isn’t (currently) overweight.

That said, I think it’s ironic that if you take a photo of King with a helmet on from back when he came out of college and compare it to one of Winston with one, they look almost exactly the same in the face.

  30. Tom Says:

People are making fun of King’s current weight, but if you recall, when he played he was a pretty mobile guy

  31. Howard Cosell Says:

Winston is not fat he’s just big-boned!
Jeez you guys are such a**holes!

  32. Buc1987 Says:

  33. unbelievable Says:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Shaun King is okay with someone else’s gut?? No way!

That’s why we make fun of him. He was once in tip top athletic shape. Now when he tries to jump for joy, he gets stuck.

And actually as someone who went from fat to, ummm, less fat, I feel I’m good to mock him.

  35. JFF Says:

Irony is so thick here. Thicker than the keg of belly fat that King & Winston have to carry around every day.

    Winston = Leftwich 2.0
