Las Vegas Does Not Like Bucs

March 20th, 2015

?????????????

You know the Bucs have a long, long, long road to travel and mountains to climb before we soberly can discuss the Bucs and the Super Bowl in the same sentence.

When a team is 2-14, that is about as far away from a Super Bowl as one can get.

Off the top of Joe’s head, the only position group the Bucs may have that’s better than the team that lost the Super Bowl, the Seahawks, would be wide receiver.

That should give you an idea how much building the Bucs need to return to professional football’s ultimate game.

On March 2, Bovada in Las Vegas listed the Bucs’ odds of winning the championship at 150-1. But, per BSPN, not quite three weeks later, those same odds are much worse. BSPN twittered out a graphic.

Did the release of Josh McCown really mean that much? Or the jettisoning of Ghost Johnson and Anthony Collins?

Pretty surprising, but then again, Joe has never been to Vegas, and doubts very much he ever will. Zero desire.

Word is Jameis is betting his rookie signing bonus on the Bucs to get in the Super Bowl…..

  2. MadMax Says:

And the Ravens sitting there at 7/1 odds. If I wasnt a broke a$$ blue collar, just for sh!ts and giggles I’d throw a little at the 150/1 on us this year (or whatever it is).

  3. ChessMaster Says:

Not a link party here. Thanks. –Joe

  4. Aaron Says:

The Bucs 2015 Win Total Over / Under is at 5.5

What’s crazy is it’s -130 for the over.

  5. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Say…did Jameis say whether he was going to the Super Bowl with the Bucs or Titans ?

  6. bucs4lyfe Says:

Seriously lol this is dumb and technically we pick first overall and there are two teams with less of a chance than us according to Vegas translation according to no one. This means less than nothing considering every team is even the patriots needs the draft to improve their team

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

That’s smart to stay away from Vegas, unless you like losing money. That’s why it’s called lost wages.

  8. INDYbucsfan Says:

    I’ll lose 50 on this.

  9. MadMax Says:

Well, that was a nice link while it was there…..smh @Joe (it was pro Jameis)

  10. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’d like some over and under action on the number of wins!

Our division totally sucked last year and may be even worst this year!

  11. Skyline Crew Says:

I probably would of had us last. Probably the worst franchise in the NFL. However, I guess we can claim we have won a SuperBowl unlike some teams. As I’ve said before, for some reason Florida has terrible teams, just the way it is.

  12. MadMax Says:

@Skyline, beautiful weather and women and partying is probably why.

I plan to retire there, looking hard at Ormond beach.

  13. ChessMaster Says:

Awww come on Joe…that was a great link.

  14. Clint Says:

I can’t believe that – I get that they’re not going to compete; but they’ll be better than 2014. There was an ESPN Insider article about a lot of reasons why.

Not that far out of the realm that they couldn’t be like the 2004 Steelers with Roethlisberger as their QB and out of nowhere win 9 or 10.

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

I just hope Lovie drafts well for the next coach!!

  16. Clint Says:

@Aaron That’s because Vegas knows they’ll win six, make progress and save Lovie’s job for another year. They’ll win at least six

  17. ChessMaster Says:

Did you listen to that broadcast? Most in depth and complete Winston breakdown I have heard, bar none.

  18. Underdog Says:

The Bucs only play 4 teams next year that had a winning record this past year. Their record next year could be better than they really are

  19. jh Says:

So youre saying there is a chance!

  20. salish_seamonster Says:

    Don’t care. Irrelevant.

  21. Martinii Says:

Looks like we got our work cut out. If it was easy and we won all the time it would be boring. Each game we are the underdog, couldn’t be better. Remember David and Goliath. I love it. Hey we won 2 games last year and came close in several others. We won 14 percent of our games, we’re on the “verge.” I feel sorry for our competition in 2015, we are going to kick asssssss!

  22. Smells like Indira Ghandi's thong Says:

C’mon Joe. It’s time for my stories. My daily dose of ” The Jameis Watch.”
Feed me! Feed me! I need my fix.

  23. Elle Says:

I don’t think it’s irrelevant. A few years ago I would have been more enthusiastic about the Bucs, but let’s say that now my faith in this team is diminishing. I think the Las Vegas odds paint a perfect picture of reality. This team is bad. Powers-that-be can’t do what perennial contenders do. They can’t see talent, they can’t draft well on a constant basis, they can’t develop players on a constant basis and so on and so forth. Most importantly, they’re still searching for that elusive – REAL – franchise QB.

So hopefully this is the year in which they’ll rectify the above for good. They tried to buy a team through free agency and we’ve seen what happened. So next month I expected to see OUTSTANDING decisions in the draft. I’m going to be patient for a few more years and allow them to assemble a contender. I just want to see real progress. If this team is on “the verge”, then Lovie and the rest of the gang better prove it.

  24. SteveBucsFan Says:

I think this team has a great chance to improve. If they draft Winston, the offense will be much better. You don’t need superstars at every level and we have a lot of good pieces on defense. David, McCoy, Verner. The Bucs haven’t had a stud MLB since Knickerson and all they need in the safety position is someone who can cover. Our offense will have Koetter, Winston (Mariota at worst), Evans, Jackson, Murphey, Sefarin-Jenkins, Martin (maybe Peterson). The offense should be much better.

    Draft:
    1st: Winston
Move up in late 1st or in 2nd: DE
Then all o line (hopefully hit on someone)

I believe Winston will inspire and make players better. I say take this bet Bucs fans, Winston will win us a Superbowl this year. Its time for the standards to be raised in Tampa Bay!

  25. Iknowmorethanlovie Says:

We got loser Lovie why would anyone think the Bucs would be better? Bucs might be rebuilding for another 4-5 years. This team is god awful

  26. Doofus Says:

Gimee #4906 for my mortgage and all the money I can beg, borrow, or steal!!! Gimee the Ravens!!! 7 to 1!!! And while we’re at it gimee 65 points for the over / under!!! Bet it ALL!!! I Knowed I’m a-gonna win!!! Bets in the Pic are for 2013!!! LAF!!!

  27. salish_seamonster Says:

How is it even relevant in the slightest?

Oddsmakers have nothing to do with how the team performs. They have nothing to do with how the team approaches free agency, or the draft, or other player acquisition. They have nothing to do with how the players are coached or how they play on gameday. The oddsmakers have nothing to do with good or bad decisions players make off the field. This is only relevant for people who care about betting on football.

If you, as a fan, are influenced by what Vegas oddsmakers think, then that’s a problem you need to look at a little more closely… but it really is irrelevant to what the team does. I don’t need oddsmakers to tell me what the situation with the Bucs is. And their pessimism is based on last season. I’m looking forward to next season. My attitude and expectations are not influenced in any way by what some fools in Vegas think.

  28. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I’m not a gambling man, so someone help me understand this.

If I put $1,000 on the Bucs to win the superbowl and the impossible happens…how much would I win?

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BucBonzai

Just $150,000. Not even enough to retire. Actually I would make those bottom teams even longer to win it.

I think a lot of those bottom teams could turn it around. I believe the Bucs could pull of our division standard of worst to first….but even if the Bucs won the division and got home field odds are we’d be one and done.

It’s one thing to be competitive the NFL has balance but eventually the cream rises to the top. Do we not believe the best two teams played in this years SB.
Green Bay is right up there and maybe Denver.

Virtually all the teams have a chance to make the playoffs but only a half dozen or so are actually SB contenders.

  30. Zam Says:

Yeah I’m sure this has nothing to do with the Bucs looking like they are going to draft Winston. You know, the guy that no one wants to trade up to get, even should he fall to #2.

  31. Buc_You Says:

So your saying there is a chance?

    YES!

  32. JSmalls Says:

Vegas – Come for vacation. go home on probation…

  33. Shipwrecked87 Says:

This tweet really bothered me yesterday as it’s wrong. The Bucs “odds” of winning the 2015 Super Bowl have not decreased but INCREASED from 100/1 to 150/1 and rightly so because they are the worst team in the league and have only made minor changes, so why the “despite being the worst team in the league…”? It’s the Bucs CHANCES that have DECREASED.

  34. ddneast Says:

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Chirping crickets and soulful sound of a train horn in the background.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    Shipwrecked87<—-Not me.

  36. David Says:

That’s OK. When we draft Jameis we will have a franchise QB and our odds will be tied with the Seahawks.

At least that’s what most Bucs fans think. QB is everything!
