About Last Night

October 22nd, 2013

Joe knows the Tampa Bay area is still infested with Freemanites and the following, which may annoy some Bucs fans, will be of keen interest to those Freemanites.

The numbers crunchers of Pro Football Focus have come along way from being a cult to mainstream in the five years the outfit has been charting the NFL. After last night’s painful performance by former Bucs defrocked franchise quarterback Josh Freeman, the Pro Football Focus crowd confessed it’s never charted a worse performance by a quarterback in the history of their august publication than what Freeman had last night.

@PFF_Pete: Josh Freeman’s -11.3 @PFF grade was the lowest single-game mark we’ve ever given a QB.

Stop with the “He didn’t have enough time to learn the playbook” nonsense. You don’t think Leslie Frazier dumbed down the playbook for Freeman? Only a mental patient would have thrown a quarterback to the wolves without doing that.

Besides, does Freeman really need to learn a new playbook to understand not to overthrow receivers as if they were standing on the Iowa border?

You know it was bad when Chucky, who loves everybody on Monday Night Football, was calling for Freeman to be benched.

Maybe Schiano knew more than most of us sitting on the other side of the fence from One Buc Palace?

Freeman’s facial expressions are priceless. This could have been Tampa Bay.

  2. mvermulm Says:

If Freeman wasn’t prepared, he could have said he wasn’t ready as well. It wasn’t like he had mis-communication with his receivers and was throwing the wrong routes; he was simply making terribly inaccurate throws.

  3. DomsAdvisor Says:

Stv Dmg won’t even talk about Josh Freeman.

He needs to state an official apology for being wrong about Josh Freeman.

He also should say that releasing Josh was the best Tampa could do… and then apologize for claiming the Bucs should have over paid for Josh with an off season contract extension.

  4. Chef Paul Says:

So in 22 games, Schiano did one thing right. I’ll give him credit for that. Good job Greggy

  5. james in dunedin Says:

Schiano got his first win last night.

  6. Couch Fan Says:

Dont hold your breath for that to happen Advisor. Big dummy is to stubborn and conceited to think about an apology. My guess is its more likely he defends Freeman’s play.

  7. ShutTheBucUp Says:

[Knock it off. — Joe] will never apologize or admit he was wrong. The guy is an idiot.

As for Freeman, the OC for the vikings had a play sheet the size of an index card, so clearly the offense was watered down. That being said, Freeman still had open receivers to throw to on multiple occasions, he just couldn’t make an accurate throw. He also made some really poor decisions. Same old Freechise.

  8. Touchdown Gus Says:

This isn’t good simply because it makes firing Schiano a little bit harder

  9. Chef Paul Says:

    Rah win % = 35.4%
    Greg win% = 31.8%

And who is expecting a win against the Panthers or Seahawks?

If we lose those games Greg’s win% will be 29.1%

  10. JonBuc Says:

I was rooting for Freeman for many years and was hoping he was the long-term solution at QB. He’s damaged goods…if you ran a CARFAX on Freeman it would come back ” totaled/salvage junk”. Man that was awful last night…

  11. Pruritis Ani Says:

“Only a mental patient would have thrown a quarterback to the wolves like that”

    Lol

The facial expressions irked me when he was in Tampa.. I reminded me of a petulant child.

  12. bucrightoff Says:

I got week 10 as the over/under on him getting benched again. Vikings might be in even worse shape than we are.

  13. Eric in DC Says:

No one can play QB worse than Josh Freeman

  14. Bucks_Sam Says:

Tim Tebow never had a 40.1 QB Ratings like Freeman did lat night.

In fact, Freeman’s stats from last night aren’t too different than his stats all year.

    Last night : 40.6
    Against Pats: 54.5
    Against NO: 56.1

    ESPN Stats

  15. Mr. Patrick Says:

Poor Vikings fans got a small taste of what Bucs fans have been going through for 5 years now. Makes Schiano look a little better for replacing him, makes Dom look horrible for trading up to draft him

  16. Nick2 Says:

Wow I do remember telling people that Glennon couldn’t be worse than Freeman and soooooo many people doubted that. Not that I was alone in that analysis, I think anyone who saw Freeman week in and week out and saw his last in the league QB rating new we could not do worse.

  17. Stranger Says:

He didn’t have time to learn the playbook.

  18. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

How ’bout let’s hear it from Shaun King…..I wonder if Shaun thinks the Vikings should restructure Josh’s deal to sign him long term like he thought the Bucs should do last year….

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

He didn’t have time to learn the playbook.

He missed wide open stationary targets more than once and threw up a jump ball while being sacked which resulted in an interception. Even serviceable QBs dont do this.

  20. SteveK Says:

    Dear Joes,

Please bring up Freeman’s MNF performance on 620 tomorrow afternoon. I love listening to the show when you guys are on it.

Keep up the great work, and it is refreshing to get an honest sense of the all things Bucs.

We are in NFL hell right now, and I appreciate all of news you do.

Can you ask the 620 host, tomorrow, “What about Freeman? What about the pedestal?” “Fans want accountability, you rip Schiano every chance you get, support Freeman like there is no tomorrow, could you be wrong about Freeman? Is Freeman a failure in your eyes?”

Thanks Joe, I would call in to the 620 show to speak to the Big Dog, but anytime a “fan” calls in and tries to fry Freeman he takes over the Mic, hangs up on the caller, gets fired up, etc… The truth needs to come out, thanks for all you guys do.

Right, wrong, indifferent, you guys run a helluve a site with no BS. Thanks!

  21. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

I wonder what they are saying on “Vick Vikes Fan”….about their new leader.

    Ritalin…no Adderall….no Ritalin….no Adderall

  22. SteveK Says:

    Nick2,

People don’t like to think the truth about Freeman. He is a BUST.

It isn’t easy, especially as numerous fans feel like Freeman stole from them. He stole their belief, patience, and faith. Kind of sad really, but Freewee tapped out my patience during the back to back 4 INT games last season.

Bottom line, Freewee is not NFL material.

He can be a Michael Jackson body double though.

  23. SteveK Says:

PFT reported today that Freeman will start again for the Vikings.

    Good luck with that.

  25. Justin Says:

That was the worst display of QB I have seen in a game since Rex Grossman threw like 10 INTS in a Bears win against the Cardinals on MNF years ago.

  26. BucfaninMi Says:

not his fault he got drafted too high. not defending. just saying.

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    http://kool1079.com/monday-night-football-freeman-is-historically-bad-in-vikings-debut/

There’s some historical numbers Freeman 😉

    A record 16! Overthrown passes.

That my friends has nothing to do with scheme or the playbook.

  28. Draft Marty Schottenheimer Says:

Do we have to debate whether Schiano was right or wrong? Can we simply walk away from Freeman, Schiano and possibly Dominik without glaring justifications?

Why can’t we go after a real rockstar GM, like Pioli? Our last great GM was chased out by Gruden. We’ve sucked ever since.

    GM: Pioli
    DC: Butch Davis
    HC: M Schottenheimer.

  29. biff barker Says:

Not to worry, Freepology will soon take hold in the Twin Cities.

  30. Capt. Tim Says:

Didn’t watch it, but by all accounts he was horrible.
In 2010, Josh was the talk of the league- and playing really well.
Either due to bad coaching, bad personal decisions, or lack of focus- that player has disappeared.

While it is crazy to start aQB, after only two weeks- that has nothing to do with overthrows. They said he had 16 overthrows last night.

He’s the Vikings QB now. And I really am not interested in his career futher.
But unlike many here, I am not happy that he has fallen apart. It’s sad, because he was a nice kid when he came here- and really cared apart talking to the fans.
If he was ever a jerk, and bad to people- I never saw it, in the times I saw him in public.
It’s really too bad. But sounds like he’s done

  31. Kalind Says:

Start the Jamarcus Clock on Freeman being out of the league. Who is gunna want this guy now? Shoot, even the Jags and Browns have better qbs.

  32. PRBucFan Says:

    *Another back step

    DE NI AL

It’s nice to see isn’t it Couch?

  33. Couch Fan Says:

It appears we were all wrong in some way. Freeman didnt pan out and Schiano is not panning out. And can’t forget about Dom. It’s a total collapse, whatever can go wrong will go wrong, just like you said. If we are going to start a rebuild AGAIN, I would hope its soon, The last few times the Glazers have fired a coach, they waited and waited and waited…. let’s not make that mistake again. Let’s start the rebuild now.

  34. DomsAdvisor Says:

I blame the media for both Freeman and Schiano’s failures.

  35. BucsfaninChina Says:

Six flags. Perfect summation of all that is Josh Freeman

  36. Bucsfanfromtexas Says:

it’s hard to comprehend a 5 year starter playing so disgraceful.. Now let’s just hope Mike Glennon continues to improve

  37. D-Rome Says:

    I don’t care about Freeman.

I care about the fact that the Bucs have lost 11 out of 12 under Greg Schiano. I care about the fact that the Bucs are leading the league in penalty yards and penalty yards per game.

  38. D-Rome Says:

Why can’t we go after a real rockstar GM, like Pioli?

Joe calls Dominik a “rockstar” because he thought he was going to be the next Scott Pioli.

Pioli was a failure in Kansas City.

  39. biff barker Says:

Joe, there are some valid comments here about your media partner Duemeg being unwilling to accurately report on Freeman.
Case in point, on your last show you mentioned your piece joking about being a entry level member of the Glennon mob. You were met with a cold shoulder for what I thought was a pretty funny comment. To me that’s putting a personal agenda in front of fairness.
Conversely, I do recognize that you’re being accountable to the patrons here by trying to get and keep the story right. It matters. Thanks.

  40. DomsAdvisor Says:

I can’t believe Josh is going to get another start?

The league must be forcing the Vikes to start this clown because is potentiallyhomosexual.

  41. Christopher Says:

Yeah…’ol Tom Jones was ADAMANT that we had to sign Freeman to an extension last year. Freeman’s lifetime QB rating is 2 points higher than Tebow’s, & literally EVERYBODY’S getting signed before Tebow (stupidly).

As for the guy who wanted Schottenheimer…OMG, he’s in his 70’s! Stop it.

  42. richardtyson Says:

Josh Freeman sucks and will always suck. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant, plain and simple. I’d like to see us get Jeff Garcia back. At least he has a hot wife.

  43. Gavster17 Says:

This is a huge statistical outlier. No doubt he was terrible last night. But he has not been that bad ever. Interested to see how he responds.

  44. Cody Says:

    Crash and Burn Joshy Pooh…

The Problem with Josh is he’ll always pass the look test because he looks the part…When in actuality he’s a stud from the neck down and a dud from the neck up…a Mental Midget point blank

Annd, Zero accountability for this guy…what’s with this “we” sh!t…At some point you have to say “I” need to play better, “I should have made that play, “I” didn’t have a good game, etc…

The problem is everything has been given to this DuD, he doesn’t want to “WiN” the starting job, or ProVe he deserves to be the starter, he wants to be “GiVen” the starting job…Glad he’s go, good luck Minnesota, you’ll all die of old age waiting for Freeman to become and Average QB in this league…

If’ they’re smart they’ll put Ponder back under center ASAP…

  45. Skelly Says:

HA HA HA. Finally Dom and Schiano get a WIN…. Not the kind fans want but certainly one MGMT needed.

Big Dog needs to be held accountable for his blind faith for Freeman.

  47. Malevolent Creation Says:

Viking fans get ur SB tickets

  48. Stranger Says:

    @ShutTheBucUp

Sarcasm. I don’t really care what Josh does any more since it doesn’t affect us and I don’t even know why its still a topic of discussion. Him doing well elsewhere doesn’t really help us and him doing bad isn’t much of a consolation prize. We aren’t suddenly going to be a better team because Josh is bad. All Josh’s performance does is resonate just how bad our coaching staff is, whether he does well or bad.

The only positive that came from last night is that we now have the number 2 pick in the draft.

  49. Goodolebucfan Says:

Well I will admit it he sucked I knew he wouldn’t be good because he only practiced 4 days but he just plain sucked big time I was wrong.

  50. Dave Says:

Bottom line is after 5 years Jos shold beALOT moreaccurate. It was disgusting how many wide open WRs he just sailed the ball over. I was a Josh guy the first few years, but his “potential” was never materializing

  51. PRBucFan Says:

Way to go Goodolebucfan, proud of ya lol

  52. tom v Says:

Josh Freeman camp says vikings doing a poor job of getting taller receivers

  53. tom v Says:

Freeman camp also miffed at vikings for leaking last nights game film

  54. SSG MIKE Says:

We have also heard all the pundits make the same argument to the opposite abouy other QB’s who are just starting with a new team. Lets face it the Vikes are barely a team better than the Bucs. Freeman will struggle but ultimately I hope they give him some time. They allowed hom to open up and air it out a little. The Vikes are in the same situation as the Bucs. Freeman can save the coach or ensure he is nothing more than a backup the rest of his career and get the new coach next season the opportunity to draft a new QB. Glennon is probably screwed either way unless he starts to look like Aaron Rodgers amd then we are stuck with the hapless Sciano. Go Bucs!

  55. Cannon Says:

The sad part, in my mind, is we built a team around the notion that we had our “Franchise QB”

Unfortunately, that is not the case, and now we have nothing. Sure, there are some bright spots to our team… And on paper, we have a lot of pro bowlers… But without a great QB (or a decent coach for that matter) our team is lost.

What really depresses me is that I don’t see this team turning it around anytime soon. Best case scenario is we have the first overall pick in the draft and a new set of coaches… Which quite literally means we are starting from the beginning… Again.
