Brian Price Speaks Of (Another) Family Loss

May 19th, 2012

Last week when the Bucs held OTAs, three players were missing:

Kellen Winslow, who rarely attends such team functions, Dezmon Briscoe, who apparently places his all too sordid public lifestyle on a higher priority than his profession, and Brian Price.

Later, it was learned that Price was too ill to practice. Then, Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune discovered that Price was hospitalized, overcome with emotion after learning of the death of his sister in a traffic accident, the third sibling in his family to perish.

Price opened up to Steve Wyche in a powerful NFL.com article about his family’s harrowing last few days.

“It was very hard to see my mom go through that [expletive] again,” Price told NFL.com from his home in Tampa on Friday. “Bridget was my homey, my best friend. She was everything and she was very protective about me. … Every inspirational text she sent me, I teared up. It always was special when it came from her. I don’t know. It’s hard.

“I want to vent and cry. I never cried. I wasn’t raised to cry. Even when I was looking at my brothers’ caskets, I didn’t cry. Some days, it hits me. I’m sitting here and I can’t believe she’s gone.”

Price also spoke about how he will adopt his sister’s children and lauded new Bucs coach Greg Schiano for helping him out in his time of need.

Joe can’t imagine what Price has gone through in such a short time, having two brothers previously killed at the hands of urban violence.

Add the fact Price has had such a freak injury that no one knows still if he can fully recover, well, Price is nothing if not resilient.

GMC had some quotes last year of wanting the Dline to Walk together, eat together, learn together–be a brotherhood just like the Oline does; on and off the field. This is a huge off the field test for that new brotherhood. What I’m saying is I hope its not just Coach Schiano that’s reaching out to Price. That young man needs many shoulders to lean on.

Ok, that’s it.. I’m buying a Price jersey. This is a success story in the making.

  3. Deminion Says:

My prayers go out to Price and his family.

Brian Price comes from a strong family and his father Frank is also a mentor. Brian will find a way to cope with this as he has other family tragedies in his life.

I offer this YouTube video, not for it’s content, but to introduce you to Brian’s father Frank. This is a 12 minute video that you need watch for a few minutes only to see that Frank’s influence (strength/training) has obviously rubbed off on Brian. Together they will overcome this!

ANY media person that listened to Price in interviews last year should have been able to tell this is a different cat. Of course we spend so much time critizing that we fail to see the person. Two guys that consistently get this negative treatment are Price and Blount. It’s ridiculous..

  6. Shayne Says:

Brian Price is a great dude. He has gone through many tough times in his life and I hope he pulls through and has an awesome season for us. With adopting his late sisters kids, and his serious injury, hes going to have a alot to fight for this upcoming season.

Prayers …Brother…Thinking of you and yours..Stay strong

  8. Bobby Says:

Tough to stay focused on football when so many things greater than football are affecting this young man. I’m praying for his success. He deserves it.

  9. Garv Says:

Brian has gone through some very tough times that far outweigh his career in football. But he deserves better than this. I hope and pray things get better for this young man and I will be pulling for him.

Taking on his sister’s children is a man’s decision, the right thing to do.

I know Coach Schiano will be supportive as well as players and fans.

Price was an inspiration to a lot of people who can recognise his passion for football. Playing better than GMC while having a tendon almost disconnected. Constant pain never quitting regardless of his personal conflicts to add to his agony. And that so called coach Morris ejecting him from a game for a penalty personal foul? That shows me how much guts this guy has. Offensive lineman are pretty lucky that he never lost his temper!!

I cant even begin to imagine what it must be like to lose your siblings at only 23 yrs old. BP is a warrior and even if he does not come back from the injury he will always have my respect as a man and person. Im prayin for you and yours… good luck this season, hope to see you putting jerseys in the grass behind the LOS!!

  12. Colorado Buc Says:

Prayers and deepest sympathies from my family to yours young man. With the way Coach Schiano takes on the tragedies of his family(team) I think Price is in good hands. Not a coach in the league thatcould help him more right now.

man, this guy is amazing, i have been a supporter even before the draft, and i will be rooting for him every day, every time, he will be strong and will be a force for this team, on and off the field…..

on the other hand, im done with briscoe, i mean, sure is hard to live that kind of situations, but where is the commitment to this team huh???and is not like he has his spot on this team THAT sure…. he will be gone sooner….

  14. safety Says:

We’re keeping you in our prayers Brian.
    Stay strong.

  15. Patrick Says:

I find it amazing that Price is able to continue football after losing all of his siblings like this when he’s only 23. How could a person mentally do that?

I pray and wish the best for him. He deserves it!!!!!

  16. kh Says:

    RIP, stay strong Price

  17. funkymunkey Says:

Much respect and love for BP…cannot imagine what he is going through nor would I want too. I hope he comes back from his injury and kills it this season!! Not for the Bucs sake but for his!! Even if that doesn’t happen, keep your head up and always remember, the real Bucs fans will ALWAYS be here for you no matter what and one love and Jah Bless!!

  20. Cmurda Says:

You just know Price is built to overcome. Can’t you just see this guy with everything he has experienced persevering to become as relevant on-field as he is off the field?

  21. bubba Says:

Prayers for Price and his family. I know it sounds kind of weird but I don’t think he could have a better person then Coach Schiano in his corner right now.
