Yes, “Hard Knocks” debuted last night. No, Joe didn’t see it. Joe cancelled HBO the instant “The Sopranos” went dark. It would have to be some kind of spectacular TV event to get Joe to pick HBO back up.

There isn’t a guy around talking football that Joe enjoys listening to more than Mike Mayock. Doesn’t mean Joe agrees with him all the time, but Joe could just sit for hours and listen to the guy.

Bucs DT Akeem Spence seemed to backtrack from his previous proclamation that he would be out two months.
Just when training camp started, Bucs defensive tackle Akeem Spence said he would be out a “couple of more months” after having back surgery in the offseason.
Just hours after the Bucs signed former Seahawks tackle Tony McDaniel yesterday, Joe got a chance to talk to good guy Spence, and he refused to offer any target date for his return. [read more]

Jameis referred to the baseball brawl at practice today as a form of competition.
Who gives a damn about back shoulder throws and pass coverage over the middle when your favorite football team busts out in a baseball brawl with shoving and pushing and hollering?
That’s entertainment, and you will be hard-pressed not to find anyone at Bucs training camp practice today to suggest that was not a highlight. [read more]

The Buccaneers’ new defensive tackle, 2013 and 2014 Seahawks starter Tony McDaniel, was practicing today at One Buc Palace.
And he told Joe that former Bucs star and Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, who was allowed to walk from the Bucs for no good reason, influenced his decision to sign with Tampa Bay. [read more]
