This is one they simply must have.
In the long wake of Hurricane Irma, the Buccaneers don’t have much to time to refocus. Players are scrambling to return to the Bay area and Dirk Koetter’s cherished practice time has taken a direct hit.
Still, this team is healthy and the Bears are lousy. Those are the factors that count as the Bucs prepare for a season opener like no other in the franchise’s 42-year history. (more…)

Myles Garrett is going to make a lot of left tackles look bad this season. Donovan Smith ranks as Exhibit A.
The first overall pick in the 2017 draft was very impressive in Cleveland’s preseason victory, pressuring Jameis Winston repeatedly off the right edge.

There’s another growing fan movement going on in Tampa besides the Stick Carriers.
A new wave of Buc supporters was in evidence Friday at the East Stadium Club when Darcie Glazer Kassewitz presided over the third edition of Women of RED.
More than 2,000 fans packed Raymond James Stadium for the event, with former WFLA-TV anchor Gayle Sierens serving as emcee. Ali Marpet, Clinton McDonald and rookie O.J. Howard were the special guests, answering questions and giving fans a peek behind the pewter helmet. (more…)
There’s a lot of hand-wringing going on by national observers and even a few Buc fans about some of the things that went wrong Thursday night in Jacksonville.
Nick Folk had an extra-point attempt blocked and missed a field goal that caused Dirk Koetter to drop his head. The red-zone offense struggled at times. Jameis Winston turned in a bonehead play.

Derrick Brooks wrestled with mixed feelings when Mike Smith went job hunting last January.
Brooks knows an outstanding coach when he sees one, and he admired Smith from afar until 2016, when he saw the Bucs make dramatic strides on defense under their new coordinator. (more…)
