Jason Licht Had A Telling Pregame Prediction

October 18th, 2026

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht.

The Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager was very clear on the Buccaneers Radio Network pregame show.

He was predicting a tough, hard-nosed trenches battle against the Steelers.

Licht also was adamant that the Bucs wanted to pound the ball on the ground and capitalize on Bucky Irving’s talent.

Play-by-play man Tony Castricone asked Licht if the offense is finding its identity.

“I think it’s starting to, yeah, potentially, starting to,” Licht said minutes before kickoff. “We want to be physical, run the football. This is going to be a tough game. You know, I’m not into predictions, but if you were to ask me what I thought it was going to be, this is going to be a dogfight. This is going to be a tough game won in the trenches. And Bucky is a special player. When we can get him going, it opens up a lot of things for our offense.”

Sadly, that Bucs running game only showed a few flashes and was dead otherwise. Bucs running backs averaged 3.0 yards per carry on 21 attempts.

Joe’s not sure why playcaller Zac Robinson can’t scheme better from the Bucs’ rushing attack. Exhibit A was how the Bucs foolishly threw the ball at the end of the first half.

Three plays netted one yard and took little off the clock. The Steelers marched down right after for their first score of the game, a critical field goal that cut the Bucs’ lead to 13-3.

  1. Agust 1976 Buc Says:

Carbon Copy how the Greenbay game ended. This OC could not scheme to stop an open man blitz to end the game. He show zero imagination, sending long routes when simple short passes are needed, just an ignorant looking run offense.

  2. McBay Says:

People are over-reacting to a close loss in overtime. Part of Bowles genius is trying to keep the game close so his team can compete in one score games. They did that today. Mission accomplished.

  3. buc4evr Says:

Licht is a loser. The only time he has won was when Brady was here. Otherwise he is a perennial loser that needs to be fired along with Bowles.

  4. SB~LV šŸˆ Says:

It’s a MISTAKE to think that you can get big play from Bucky the longer you call his number.
Bucky is a change up specialist not a bell cow .
Gainwell was the MVP on the Steelers last year.
Run them both, get them in a rhythm of carrying the load.

  5. Miller5252 Says:

Joe’s not sure why playcaller Zac Robinson can’t scheme better from the Bucs’ rushing attack. I get why you’re saying it this way instead of just saying he has no business as an OC in the NFL. After 6 weeks we’ve all seen enough from him and 3 years too many of Bowles to know they both need out of Tampa and out of their positions in the NFL.

  6. Hodad Says:

Did Licht predict 1-5? Is he still keeping receipts? He’s a joke, and so is the team he built. Don’t believe me? Better check the receipts.

  7. Ugotrobbed Says:

This has been the norm now for 15 games! TB coaching ALWAYS allows opponents to stick around and then wins games at the end! Hasn’t changed and not going to change!
    3rd and 28!

  8. Robert Says:

Where’s is the Jalen Daniels being the next Joe Montana crowd? Crickets .

  9. Tucker Says:

Where is the good game management from the hc? Crickets.

  10. Boltsfan17 Says:

Asking Bowles or Licht a question is just a waste of time. Both should’ve been sent packing two years ago.

  11. Lessismore Says:

I thought Canales was back calling plays…
    Seemed to me…..
1st down – run up the middle for maybe a couple of yards.
2nd down – more of the same or take a loss.
Left us in 3rd and long all day.

Flashbacks of how Cadillac Williams was used back in the day.

  12. buc4evr Says:

Agreed Hodad, Licht built a house cards and it is all coming down. He is the hype master for late round rookie players. Jalon was never ready to start and not finding a decent vet backup for this team was just lunacy. Especially since he had a year to do so. Both arrogant and stupid, a bad combination.

  13. Lessismore Says:

O and btw, anyone watch the 49ers- Seahawks game…….

The Bucs do not have a ā€œgo-toā€ receiver.

  14. Buddha Says:

Licht is not the coach. He has put plenty of talent on the field. But the offense is awful and predictable. YOU CAN’T HIDE YOUR QUARTERBACK.

  15. Slacker Says:

Wake me up when bowles and robinson are gone.

  16. SkunkApe Says:

    LET THE FIRE-SALE COMMENCE!

    LET THE FIRE-SALE COMMENCE!

    LET THE FIRE-SALE COMMENCE!

  17. Marineinclermont Says:

What would you give to be able to have a real conversation with Mike Evans that would never be published to hurt management ownership or the fans of buc nation? It would be a great lesson and you would get some amazing insight as to just how screwed up our head coach and ownership are. Hopefully we can get rid of everyone that makes decisions on this team right now and find the right coach to lead this organization to respectability. Todd Bowles just continues to embarrass himself every week and Mr. Robinson is right there with him.

  18. SBucs13 Says:

I’m not sure this coaching staff could win against a good high school
    Football team.

  19. SkunkApe Says:

Robinson will be here as long as Bowles is, which is, to be exact, 11 more games. Why fire the OC when it’s a lost season anyway? I mean who wants the job? And what are we trying to accomplish? Bowles may think he’s trying to win some games. The rest of us living in the real world know that stacking losses and unloading bodies is the best thing for the future.

  20. SkunkApe Says:

I hope Licht has started the HC search. Target the young offensive guru type. Maybe we can score a Ben Johnson or Liam Coen.

Let’s start with Declan Doyle and Nate Scheelhaase and see who else is out there.

  21. BigZ Says:

They are far from a physical oline. Is he blind?

  22. Tucker Says:

    Time for a rebuild.

  23. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

His calls at critical points is mind boggling. Going into 2 minutes… eat the clock!

  24. ScottNFL Says:

I cannot believe this guy (whose team only won because Brady came and brought some serious talent along with him) is in the Ring of Honor and James Wilder is not.

  25. ModHairKen Says:

SkunkApe, what makes you think that Licht is going to be involved in the search for the new head coach?

With the team that he’s built and the fact that he hired Bowles, I have no confidence in that loser to do anything other than perpetuate the ridiculous disgusting display that we’ve seen already this year.

  26. ChiBuc Says:

Licht has no pulse on this team, his coaches, or the community. That canned ham is a waste of a figurehead

  27. Pops Malone Says:

They handed 3 points to the Steelers prior to halftime when they could have gone in with a 13 point lead and a rookie QB playing by juts handing the ball off , just clueless game management by Bowles and Robinson, this team is a joke and they got what they deserved today, the whole operation, including Jason Licht needs to be reassessed when this miserable season ends

  28. Winny Testaverde Says:

I want Bright Licht down the road as much if not more than Bowles ( who’s already cooked ).

If the Glazers chicken out and keep Licht…it’ll just be more of the same. Bruce Arians and then Tom Brady coming to town was a once in a lifetime lottery.

Take the rest of the year if you wish Team Glazer…but a complete housecleaning is in order.

Licht won’t trade ā€œassetsā€ unless forced to do so. It would admit he made a mistake with either a draft pick or a ridiculous contract.

  29. North Ga Bucsfan Says:

How about that pass interference call on Parrish? That should have been fourth down I think…

  30. Hydra Says:

Let Zampese call plays for the love of God

  31. buc4evr Says:

Licht’s stud WR’s are a joke. WR is a weakness on this team. If Shep would have been here today he would have caught that 3rd and 11 pass with a few minutes left in the fourth.

Our over hyped WRs cant catch anything when it counts the most. Brought to you by the Licht hype machine. Keep the receipts on this Jason… you loser. lol .

  32. SummerofGeorge Says:

Mike Evans is laughing in SF. He knew what would happen and he bolted.

Todd Bowles is too inept to do either of his jobs.

The Glazers made the wrong choice, again.

I just hope the new HC has the clout to demand a new DC of his choosing.

    Fire Bowles Now!!!

  33. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Fired from the Falconuts is all you need to know

  34. Mach Says:

Fire Bowles now. Go get Sean McDermott now!!! Get gruden as temporary offensive coordinator

  35. adam from ny Says:

gainwell was focused and running hard and well…

    and being productive…

he wanted the ball…i can tell…against his old team…he wanted to show out like jamel dean wanted to show out…

yet sleepy zz-rob didn’t give him the ball AT ALL…!

  36. Hydra Says:

It was wrong to scapegoat Griz. Robinson is not a winner.Ernie Zampese now!!!!

  37. adam from ny Says:

running bucky up the gut like he’s mike alstott is the most ridiculous move of all time…

the young man thrives in space – where he makes people miss…

zzz-rob’s ultimate failure of the day – not using the slippery jukemeister bucky in the right way

  38. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Licht drafts ok, but his decisions regarding who to extend are head scratching.

  39. Confido75 Says:

When is JL going to be asked a real question? Is the press not allowed to ask the tough questions anymore? I would be asking him directly what is wrong with this team and do you plan to do to fix it?

  40. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Licht was close to being fired before Brady.

  41. Oxycondomns Says:

bowles the past 2 years purposely hired an offensive coordinator that wouldn’t threaten to take his job

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

Is it just me or is McCollum merely the second JTS?

Dude doesn’t seem like a football player to me, no matter how many times commentators regurgitate that he’s ā€œAll Proā€

  43. BucsFan Says:

How do yall talk about the OC in the Game?

The Bucs were up 16-3 going into the 4th quarter with an UDFA backup QB

AND yall talk about the OC losing PLEASE !!!!!

Todd Bowles is a DEFENSIVE GURU AND THE HC

Lose the lead in 4th quarter
Doesn’t take the ball in OT

Some of Yall will Dir for this Guy

    THIS TEAM HAS ONE PROBLEM

    TODD BOWLES !!!!!!

No Money spent til. BOWLES IS GONE

  44. Obvious Says:

You have to give credit where it’s due. The dude drafted a HOFer, and maybe another one in Tristian.

Outside of that there are no blue chip players. Lots of whites and some reds. But no other blues.

He also overpays his own draft picks on their second contracts.

He cannot lead the new HC search.

  45. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Alvin.

Very much so. A missed opportunity for sure.

  46. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

All these buffoons up here during the summer were talking about we had such great talent on the offense thinking Bowles was going to be better and Robinson was the man now lol at us. All these fakerboi fans need to shut up and stop the support for Bowles because he loves your qb. We are what we are. We have two short qbs one who can’t handle pressure and one who’s an undrafted rookie for a reason. After last years collapse I can’t see how anybody thought it would get better with the same coach qb and a fired OC

  47. Itzok Says:

time for licht to start trading high salaries for draft picks. trade godwin. we dont use him. vea hes terrible some playoff team who cant stop the run would want him. diaby can go. contract year does nothing. id take a future 6th rounder. kancy can go too. hes in a contract year or close who does nothing. winfield id take a ham sandwich for hes been hurt ever since we made him the highest paid safety in the league. wirfs could get a second maybe a 1st rounder hes getting beat every game. the rams would take our kicker and they dont value picks

  48. Gipper Says:

It’s Baker’s fault. Where are all the Jalon Daniels diehards? The only thing dumber than this coaching staff is the group of ā€œ pretend expertsā€ who post here.

  49. Confido75 Says:

I gave JL some slack in the past, but he needs to go too. He needs to live and die by his decisions.

  50. 80sBucsfan Says:

RING OF DISHONOR! Licht will never ever make the ring of honor as long as I am alive. Never. 94-109

Licht is a LOSER that is still riding Brady jock. Licht sucks and I am embarrassed for this site to put him on some pedestal.

Joe, check the other Joe. No more Jason Licht. WIthout Brady he is an insurance salesman. Nobody.

    STOP SIMPING FOR LICHT.

  51. Confido75 Says:

Jason Licht ranks in the bottom third of active NFL GMs by regular-season win percentage.

  52. Bartow Buc Says:

I guess it was pretty obvious what Pittsburgh defense was going to do even before the game. They were gonna stack the box, stop Bucky Irving, and make JD win by passing the ball. That’s pretty much what they did and our Bucs did not have a legitimate plan to overcome that. Really though, I think the two picks broke the Bucs back. If they could have protected the rock and not give the Steelers turnovers, I think the Bucs have a legitimate chance of winning the ball game !!
But now it’s on to Carolina and we all know they’ve been hot !!

I still love my Buccaneers!! I just didn’t expect this season to be so disappointing.

    Go Bucs !!

  53. Trey Says:

We ran Bucky up the middle in the same gap over and over again the entire game. How about a pitch to the left side? How about a designated RB screen pass with pullers? Can we get SOMETHING other than running Bucky up the gut???

  54. MelvinJunior Says:

LoL. HE calls Bucky a ā€œspecialā€ player!? Lmfaooooo. I mean, this is SO fricking RIDICULOUS. ā€œSpecial,ā€ HE SAYS LoL. It’s just DELUSIONAL. He’s a nice player. Does HE not even realize that there are A LOT of great RB’s in THIS LEAGUE!? I mean, BUCKY was not even the best RB on the FIELD TODAY. This is SUCH A JOKE. There might be 6 or 7 ā€œspecialā€ RB’s in the entire league, right now. And, ā€œBUCKYā€ is definitely NOT one of those… Nor is he even CLOSE. So, come-on Man… GTFO. I mean, YOU are an absolute MORON if YOU believe, or take serious, a single THING that LICKT SAYS. It’s just LAUGHABLE.

  55. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Someone tell Jason, this offensive line is apparently past its prime. They aren’t blowing anyone off the ball. Including this average defense today or Carolina next week.

  56. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Spit this reminded me of Byron Leftwhich calling plays.

  57. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Wait is Leftwhich still calling plays?

  58. FortMyersDave Says:

At least the Rays won. Compare their ownership to the Glazers, their front office to Licht and his crew, Cash vs Bowles and lastly the talent, passion, heart and relentless drive the Rays players have and compare that to the Bucs roster and their lack of hesrt, talent and killer instinct. One team is on the verge of a pennant, the other is going to be in the top 5 for the 2027 draft. At least this loss ought to stop talk of retaining Bowles and the Glazers need to look ar Licht too. It has been a long time since TB12 saved his bacon.

  59. TONY Says:

The Glazer family doesn’t really know or care about Football. They hire a GM and walk away
until the fans stop going to the games. 2026 NFLPA Team Ownership Report Card has the team Ranked 29 out of 32. This report is made from feedback of the players around the league.
    Home Game Field – F
    Team Travel Logistics – F
    Locker Room – D
    Food/Dinning Area – D
    Treatment of Families – D
    Training Room – C
    Strength Coaches – A
    Weight Room Facility – A
    Training Staff – C
    The Glazer Family – D
The player survey explicitly noted that the D grade for the Glazers directly correlates to a perceived unwillingness to reinvest the franchise’s profits back into updating day-to-day facilities. While other NFL owners reacted to previous surveys by building new training complexes or renovating player lounges, the Glazers have let the Bucs’ infrastructure stagnate.

  60. Mhystc Says:

Hopefully he can predict that, he’ll be without a job alongside the whole coaching staff.

  61. Ex-Browns02 Says:

What I saw today was decent offensive and defensive coaching — for the first three quarters.

Then Bowles exerted his will to throttle down the offense and as usual, play conservative, soft-zone defense. I’ll never understand Todd Bowles.

If it didn’t happen so often, I’d question his motive. Instead, I think that he thinks he is actually is doing the right thing. I’m positive that he’s an intelligent man, but how many times does this have to happen for him to change?

  62. Gman Says:

Feel free to stop calling this clown Ring of Honor blah blah. Makes you somehow seem more ridiculous than usual

  63. Bosch Says:

All answers to interview questions are defensive and meaningless word salad. Blah blah blah.

  64. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

Can Joe call it the Licht IT UP House…as in light the whole thing on fire?!

  65. Capt.Tim Says:

The Glazers don’t run the team.
    They invested in the team.
Are there really people stupid enough to think the Glazers hire Coaches? Make player decisions?
I really hope not. That would be scary.
The Glazers hired Jason Licht to run the team.
Todd Bowles is here because of Jason Licht. Not because a bunch of old lawyers thought it was a goid idea.

The Glazers will decide if Licht is doing a good job or not. Is the Team Progressing? Are our young players improving with our coaches?
If they don’t think so, the will hire a few consulting firms- that will advise them on the Next GM.
Then that GM will hire the new head Coach.
GMs scout, interview, and draft players. They sign or release them.
The coach coaches those players, and hires his coaching staff.

So can those of you blaming the Glazers for things they have no involvement in, please stop. You make all of us look stupid.

  66. exBrowns02 Says:

Capt.Tim: Great argument from a organizational chart perspective, but I think that we all all know that all team owners all involve themselves in major team decision-making.

Don’t you recall the circumstances that resulted in Liam Coen’s re-naming of “El Serpiente” by Joe? Owner involvement — no?

  67. IrishTony Says:

Licht needs to go he’s made 2 greatvdecisions hiring Arians, and signing Brady, a few good decisions and a whole lot of bad decisions; biggest one being the retention of Bowles and not retaining Coen as head coach/ not hiring Monken.

  68. SkunkApe Says:

    A few things to dispel:

    1) Licht chose Bowles. FALSE. The Glazers chose Bowles, and some of it was possibly due to the fact that Arians resigned so far into the offseason that putting together a new staff would’ve been nearly impossible. That’s not to say that the Glazers would not have chosen Bowles anyway. Because they’re dumb.

    2) Licht is out when Bowles is out. Not necessarily. Maybe, but I think the Glazers may still feel that Licht is skilled at drafting, and there’s certainly reason to believe that… People can nitpick by pointing out the Braswells, etc… but show me a GM who doesn’t have any draft busts. Also, if you’re going to can Licht, you better damn well be sure you can find someone who is definitely going to be better than him, and that’s far from a slam-dunk.

    3) Licht’s job stability means he won’t be involved in a coaching search. His job STILL is to keep an eye out for the team’s future. He would be negligent to not be assembling a list and doing some background, seeing who might be interested. That’s his job, even if he isn’t here to see it through after January.

  69. Hopes on 2027 Says:

These guys would be horrible generals strategizing how to win a real war.

This fixation these lifelong meathead former players that are now coaches and GM’s have with treating the run like it’s the most important part of the game is beyond aggravating. Fans like passing, so to make themselves look professional and serious they wave the banner of run-first. Even if the team averages 3 yards a carry and 14 points a game. They’re the “experts”, they know better, blech.

  70. Buc4L Says:

Just keep torturing us every week with the same BS! Or maybe I’ll open that back door room and go against the status quo of life repeatability of unfortunate same events of nothing.

  71. Simeon4HOF Says:

Need to fire our OC immediately
