Bucs Had A Major Practice Change Last Week

October 4th, 2026

Though it may have looked it during the Bucs-Packers mess on the field of The Licht House today, Bucs business as usual was not the case in practice all week.

Head coach Todd Bowles noted Wednesday his team was making preparation changes but he woudn’t reveal what they were when pressed by media. Today, however, he was forthcoming on the Buccaneers Radio Network pregame show.

Bowles talked about how he thought practice went “great” for rookie undrafted free agent quarterback starter Jalon Daniels. It was Daniels first career start and Bowles set him up to get more intense work, he said.

“We started fast,” Bowles said of the practice week. “We started with different periods so he can get going. And we kind of went offense against defense, so he’s not just going against the scout team; he’s getting real-live looks early so he can loosen up [in practice], and I think it helped him out.”

In a typical week, the first-team offense doesn’t play against the first-team defense. But Bowles wanted Daniels jumping right into game mode and getting better preparation.

“I thought it went great. He studies like a starter,” Bowles said of Daniels.

Unfortunately, Daniels didn’t play great, and neither did his offensive line or his first-string running back. And playcaller Zac Robinson had a very rough first half before making some positive adjustments in the second half. (And no, Joe isn’t praising the Bucs offense in the second half.).

Overall, Joe can’t wag a finger of shame at Daniels. He flashed enough today to build on, though he and the Bucs will need a near miracle to beat high-octane Dallas in Dallas on Thursday night.

It’s going to be Robinson that finally takes Bowles out. No excuse for the protection on the last offensive series.

  2. Aceofaerospace Says:

    0-5.

  3. Winny Testaverde Says:

Robinson aging like a sitting President…

What a disaster this calendar year has been for the Bucs.

  4. TampaBay1976 Says:

It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic…

  5. Lakeland Says:

We’re 0-4 with a lot of football left to play
It ain’t over until it’s over
And we’re a long way from being eliminated from the playoffs

We can turn this season around

They just have to believe in themselves, and go do it

  6. Winny Testaverde Says:

Graham Sharron has become a liability. A true matador and confused on his feet.

  7. Marky mark Says:

The NFC South us historically b weak. 7-9 can take it with tie breakers.

  8. PowerOfPewter Says:

Going against the starters in a Bowles’ scheme is like going against the scout team.

  9. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Sharton aka Barton

  10. jimmy Says:

barely any egbuka or godwin, again. if you cant figure out a way to get the ball to them in the first possession you are an idiot. you have all week to plan the first series.

  11. QBKilla Says:

The best change they can make is at HC

  12. BucsFan81 Says:

Really sounds like these coaches are ok with how things are going. My guess is we won’t be hearing from ownership and Bowles will be talking about how great things are even if they don’t win a game. This franchise is starting to become embarrassing.

  13. Bojim Says:

I’m cool with him starting next week.

  14. GMC hater Says:

That screenshot makes me want to throw up!!! Both of those coaches are terrible at their jobs and have no business calling plays! Glazers wake tf up!!!

  15. Miller5252 Says:

This OC might actually be worse than last year. How is Godwin and Embuka getting less action than Otton?? Pretty bad that you can’t get that figured out

  16. Justin Says:

Of course JD looked good in practice. He was playing against Bowles’ defense.

  17. Let em bake Says:

Lakeland doing his best Pollyana …..😊

  18. Kidfloflo Says:

He was not the messiah, the offense didn’t magically click with him in, he looked just like a smart fan knew he would, he is NOT better than Baker…and we will get blown out by a angry Cowboys team who almost lost to a winless team today, and won’t do it again next week! And if the Packers weren’t awful as well and didn’t turn the ball over twice inside the 30, we could have and should have lost by at least 9…probably 17…so put this inane controversy to bed Daniel bois

  19. Canabuc Says:

Two things lost us this game:

    1. The offensive line was offensive once again. I do not understand how a team with two first round picks and other very high draft choices. All under the age of 28 could play so badly. If it wasn’t for Daniel’s mobility, he would’ve been sacked at least three or four more times.

    2. Poor play calling. Every time Tzake Robinson finds a play that seems to net. Some positive yardage like a receiver screen to Godwin. He keeps going back to the well too often and teams recognize the play and blow it up for a significant loss. There is no creativity in this offense, and I don’t understand how teams can throw short quick passes. It will against us to prevent our past rush from getting Home home and yet we can’t seem to do the same thing…..

Countdown watch for Bowles firing continues to tick

  20. Billy Says:

I am good with 0- 17. Just fire Todd who should never been resigned in the first place.

  21. Jehzsa Says:

The good news is the Bucs are only 1.5 games back in the division now.

  22. Itzok Says:

Dumb and dumber. They should coach on the sidelines wearing pink and light blue tuxedo.

Or the glazers should be forced to dress this way until they fire bowles.

  23. Hodad Says:

Daniels looked good practicing against Todd’s garbage defense. Got it. Doesn’t every rookie QB look good against Todd’s defense? Hmmm, wonder what the problem with the Bucs is?

  24. Nick jannette Says:

We’re goonin now boys! 0-17 we get Tomlin and a ton of draft picks for that number one spot

  25. MonsVenusVIP Says:

Can Donnie Smith show up at practice to show the o-line how to at least commit more holding penalties so the QB is running for his life every few plays?

  26. ir8oldman Says:

Why Tomlin? He’s Bowles 2.0. first round playoff exits like 5 years in a row…

Vikings DC would be nice for Bucs HC.

But that’s a whatever for later. Whenever it may come.

  27. BigZ Says:

Todd Bowles os the new Don King, ultimate hype man.

  28. LakelandSteve Says:

Zac Robinson is trash. Can’t get the ball to Egbuka or Godwin, what is even more egregious is Sean Tucker showed some hard running near the goal line and then we never saw him again. Put the man in there during the game on more than just the goal line. What in the world do you have to lose, this team already sucks and it can’t get much worse. Pretty soon they will be calling us the yucks again. Can’t wait until fans show up with bags over their heads.

  29. Defense Rules Says:

I actually felt bad for Daniels. There were times when Packer’ defenders were coming in on him totally untouched. Multiple times. How does that even happen in the NFL?

Something’s VERY amiss. This OLine, at one point, did an excellent job of both run blocking AND pass blocking. Now they all look like this is their first year in the league and have never played together before. This offensive coaching staff doesn’t seem to be capable of either identifying or solving the problems our OLine is undergoing.

Might be useful to call in 1 or 2 OLine gurus to talk to these guys, evaluate what they’ve been doing, and then propose some fixes.

  30. Ugo Says:

Lakeland, we’re not dead but we are close to it.

Only 1 NFL team has ever made the playoffs after a 0-4 start to the season, the 1992 San Diego Chargers. Statistically speaking, we’re pretty screwed.

  31. ModHairKen Says:

OK, it’s not over! They’ve still got a big chance. All they have to do is win every NFC South game. Every one of them. 6–0.

Then, win the rest of the games. That will take him to 13–4, and a prime playoff position!!!!

    Baker Daniels is the answer!!!!!

    Sacks are overrated.

  32. UGotRobbed Says:

Now that is some fantastic coaching right there! I can see why this team has responded so fantastic with this kind of stuff! Playoffs here we come!
Now I see why the owners and GM love this guy!

  33. Saskbucs Says:

Robinson is absolutely worse than Grizzard. Can’t even argue that.

Grizzard was working with new WRs and OL groupings every week. He was able to scheme better protections.

Can you imagine this offense going into Seattle and putting up 38! Or putting 30 up on SF !

It’s ironic that Bowles will finally be done in by an OC. 2 of them saved his job and left town, he scapegoats one in Grizz and now has a worse one to finally sink him.

  34. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Please NO Tomlin, he’s just a smidge less bad than Todd. Are you joking?
We need a young aggressive OC / HC like Kubiak, McVay or Joe Brady. Look at Mike McDonald and Seattle struggling without Kubiak. Let’s get a HC that’s current and not 60 + years old.
