Cade Otton Unwilling To Call Season Over

October 4th, 2026

Playoffs still a goal.

Joe swears to was not trying to get a reaction from Bucs veteran tight end Cade Otton. Joe had a legitimate question after today’s loss. But Otton didn’t seem to agree with Joe’s line of thinking.

After the Bucs dropped to 0-4 today, Joe asked Otton how he as a veteran will help keep the Bucs’ locker room together and help prevent the locker room from splintering or making business decisions, as 0-4 usually means a death knell for playoff hopes.

Only one team in NFL history has rallied from an 0-4 start to make the playoffs.

Otton bristled and told Joe and several reporters gathered around that the playoffs were still a goal and professionals don’t concern themselves with playoff probabilities.

“I think that’s easy,” Otton told Joe. “I think that’s the job. That’t the character of each man in here. It is way too early in the season to be giving up.

“I don’t expect that to happen at all. The first quarter of the season we lost, that’s the bottom line.

“The goal is to make the playoffs. History is history. Whatever. We control each and every play, each and every game. That’s the message.

“It comes down to believing. No one else is going to believe in us, but we’ve got to do it.”

Well, first, Joe loves to see that Otton still has the passion to win and he’s not about to throw in the towel. Joe hopes that rubs off on his teammates.

The sad thing is, no matter how much effort Otton and the rest of his teammates give, they’re handcuffed by an awful offense.

What, you expect him to say the ship is sinking!! Oh come now!

  3. Winny Testaverde Says:

C.Otton secured a large coin purse courtesy The JLicht Group before the season. He good too. JLicht outmaneuvers the competition at every turn.

  4. Miller5252 Says:

Just keep building the offense around Otton and the Bucs will win it all!! More screens to him and he’s gonna start breaking them! Best offense in the league!!! Haha

  5. FedTheFUp! Says:

Hopefully Gruden has the playbook so the transition will be smooth Friday morning.

  6. Rocky Says:

Gruden is worse than Bowles what do you guys smoke? Must be really good to think we still are in 2002

  7. Rastaferian-Jenkins Says:

Contracts should be performance based. Instead we have to watch this clunking cement shoed clod drop wide open passed for the next two years at a $10m price tag per season

  8. Popcornmike67 Says:

Again Joe I will ask, Scheelhaase or Tomlin. Just enough of this bad football and mediocrity

  9. Mike Says:

    Hey Joe-
Go on strike until your next article reads Bucs get rid of whole coaching staff

  10. TampaBay1976 Says:

Cade Otton says that as he’s counting his $….hard pass

The season is a long way from being over

I’m not throwing in the towel until we’re officially eliminated from the playoffs
There’s still a lot of football left to play
I’m in this until the end

And we’re no where near the end

  13. Hodad Says:

Change the team name to the Talkaneers. That’s what they do best, talk. Backing it up? Never.

  14. Steven #55 Says:

We ll win a few meaningless games at some point to screw up our draft pick

  15. Lakeland Says:

    Tomorrow is a new day
We will be a new team
We can still win the division

  16. Pewter Power Says:

Surprises of the season 0-4 no, Todd Bowles trash coach trash defense no, not putting in your starters on 4th & 1 because they are on a rotation No.. Bain’s lack of impact year yes, anzalone garbage play yes CADE OTTEN tied for the lead in targets with Egbuka and over chris Godwin nope did not see that coming

  17. Kenton Smith Says:

Terrible offense? Our defense was lucky enough to get a fumble at the 2 yard line in the 4th quarter. Then a pick after that in the 4th. Green Bay easily could’ve put up 35.

Our rookie QB throws a pick and guess what? Our defense gave up 7 points. Way to help the kid, defense.

Our bend don’t break defense is broken! Has been for too long. Throw all the stats . Our defense has sucked for along time now.

  18. Lakeland Says:

We fight until the final whistle in Lakeland

And the season is still young

  19. Mike Says:

With the 1st pick in the NFL Draft….The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select……

  20. MF Bucs Says:

    Lakeland shut up

  21. 80sBucsfan Says:

Jason Licht’s TE is not good. Average at best.

Jason Licht is 93-108 and counting.

    Barton and Mauch are awful.

Jason Licht is done here, folks. None.

  22. Lakeland Says:

    I’m a lifelong Bucs fan

    Nothing gonna change that
I’m with this team until the end

Regardless of who the coach is

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

And when did Otten start wearing gloves?

  24. Oldbucsfan Says:

Has todd ever won a Superbowl?

  26. Lakeland Says:

There’s nothing nobody can say or do, to make me jump ship

    I’m Bucs for life

    Bucs and Dreadnaughts

  27. Winny Testaverde Says:

Lakeland…with all due respect…you could sell unlimited multi level marketing products with your “can do” attitude and more blind spots than my Ford Pinto. Don’t quit now!

  28. HeartyDickerson Says:

“ The sad thing is, no matter how much effort Otton and the rest of his teammates give, they’re handcuffed by an awful offense.”

Handcuffed by an awful offense? Or are contributors to an awful offense?

When Gas Licht hands out Monopoly money to JAGs like Otton, this is what we get. 2nd most expensive offense in the NFL for this slop.

  29. 3rd and 28 Says:

If only otten walked his talk. Instead of dropping every other pass that comes his way. This team acts like they’re waiting for superman to come in and rescue them from the jaws of defeat again. Well that ain’t happening. Levonte David is retired.

  30. Will Says:

They all spew garbage. Honestly they should be embarrassed but most of them are getting paid high dollars so they don’t care.

  31. Bucs East Coast Says:

    The losing streak isn’t over.

Bucs will likely be 1 – 6 before the pickup a win.

Bucs Dallas line opened at bucs +9.5, which is the worst line I ever remember.

It’s not getting better anytime soon fellas buckle up.

  32. Joe Says:

Again Joe I will ask, Scheelhaase or Tomlin. Just enough of this bad football and mediocrity

    Neither.

  33. jimmy Says:

offense is offensive but what is otton supposed to say? oh yea “joe” i agree its all over?

I hope this isn’t true. Just like Bowel’s at the podium, it’s depressing.

  35. Todd Watch 2026 Says:

    Dallas 49-7 on Thursday night

Will 0-5 with ANOTHER national game embarrassment be enough???

  36. Bojim Says:

If Bowles goes in season, Zac will be the acting coach. Im not at all impressed with him.

  37. Ugotrobbed Says:

Hope the TURK will be moving through One Buc Place tomorrow…through the coaches wing that is!!

  38. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Season is not over. There is 13 more games like this or worse before it is over.

  39. SBucs13 Says:

I expect that he believes what we said. Chances are he realizes that this team will not win this year. It doesn’t help if he tells the truth.

  40. Itzok Says:

Don’t worry otten everyone with eyes and common sense will say it for you

Congrats on earning the first pick in the draft

  41. Justin Says:

And now everyone sees why Mike took less to go elsewhere.

  42. 3rd and 28 Says:

Todd watch honestly I thought that blowout I give up game was going to be today, but I am a tad bit early so it seems. I did see this team did have some heart in it, some of the DB’s played real hard, but if you looked closely diaby and anzelone, and a few others were constantly late on the play, jogging along, just getting paid, signaling total blow out and give up game draws real near.. this was a bad year to have a real bad draft. They really needed Bain not to be lame.

  43. Stucbuc Says:

    Garbage

  44. Stucbuc Says:

    Worst te in the league

  45. Rob5 Says:

I agree with you guys the coaching is not good…
but is it also possible many of our players are over rated
and will have sold by jason that they were or are good..
im not so sure any more…take ME for example he leaves
and now nobody is getting open…

  46. BigZ Says:

Just stick with your 4 catches and 40 yards a game, kate.

  47. Day1-76 Says:

Cade Rotten is one of the worst, if not the worst, starting TEs in the league. Who cares what he has to say?
