David Walker Expecting Packers To Come After Him

October 4th, 2026

Ready for more sacks.

In the second game of the season, David Walker got his first NFL sack.

It was a time to celebrate for himself — he finally made it — and for the Bucs organization that has been crowing about Walker’s ability for months.

Last week, Walker showed he not only belonged, but he can hang with the big boys of the NFL. In just 26 snaps this season, he has two sacks, the second came last week against Minnesota.

Walker believes his success is his defensive teammates’ success.

“I’m just trying to do my job,” Walker said. “Just trying to learn from our group, the guys in the room. Just picking up little stuff that that I can add to my game.”

He may need to add more. And Walker agrees. Now that there’s game film of walker, Joe asked him if he expects the Packers to try to take him out or use different methods than what the Browns or Vikings used against him.

“I think they will,” Walker said. “But man, like I said, I’m just worried about me. Just worried about getting better, studying film, and just trying to do what I do best.”

So far, that’s putting quarterbacks on the ground.

Since Walker showed he can get after quarterbacks, Joe expected KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles to sit Walker. Can’t have sacks from the edge! They have to do other things!

But last week, when asked about Walker, Bowles said he has “definitely” earned more snaps.

Maybe Bowles has seen the light?

With Bain out, the coaches had better let the dog eat!

  2. Captain Butt Sweat Says:

Based off of snaps… He’d be on pace to break the sack record. Leave him out there, just maybe Todd???

  3. Oldbucsfan Says:

He’ll remain on the bench because he don’t know how to play CB and cover receivers, besides, waking QBs is useless. Until he can cover, he sits!

  4. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

At this point the only sack that matters is when Bowels gets “Sacked”.

  5. birdie Says:

Fire Todd now! We’ll take our chances.

  6. TDTB Says:

He didn’t see the light. Bain is out that’s all.

  7. Stpetematt Says:

What a weird article. Bowles had Shaq Barrett and he played him all the time. Why on earth would he sit an edge that is getting sacks? The Bucs have been trying to get lucky and draft one or pick one up in free agency for AGES. I’d imagine once Bain finally gets healthy you will see quite a bit of Bain and Walker together- which should be awesome!

Against the Vikings the interior of the D line looked better than I’ve seen in a while. This helped open it up for everyone else. If the Bucs can continue to get pressure on the QB from the middle we’ll have a lot more success from the edge.

StpeteMatt, I love your enthusiasm bc I hate the many trolls in here.

But it is time to be realistic. The best coaches put players in a position to succeed; taking advantage of the things they do best.

Todd takes the #15 overall draft pick, the player with the most potential to pressure the QB – and takes him OUT of what he does best and puts him into coverage OFTEN. Not a few times like some 3-4 defenses, A LOT.

Another example? Winfield. Bowles takes his best playmaking DB and has him go stand in Clearwater so Todd’s Charmin soft D does not get beat. Put Winfield in a position to succeed. Put him where his playmaking skills make a difference.

Another example? Walker. Why has Walker played only 27 snaps in 3 games? Our best pass rusher? bc he hasn’t learned “to do other things”.

A good coach should get you at least 2 – 3 wins you would not have ordinarily gotten. Can you recall Todd EVER getting us a win bc of his genius play calling?

    Stpetematt,

Don’t let it stress you out. Joe thinks he’s funny, like how writing the whole Kit-Kat thing is good content. He’s really just laughing at his own jokes.

Probably thinks the “Knock Knock, Who’s There…..banana” joke is hilarious

  11. FedTheFUp! Says:

Don Shula didn’t let Larry Csonka on the field until he proved he could be a slot receiver, because great coaches know players can’t do just one thing no matter how well they do it. (The preceding comment was brought to you by sarcasm. Sarcasm. It’s what’s for breakfast.)

We have 3 “edge rushers” who should have average to above average production from the edge. They don’t because of poor coaching. Period. If we have a good defensive coordinator next season, at least 2 of the 3 will have double digit sacks.

  12. McBay Says:

Pass rush is just a small part of his responsibilities in Bowles’ defense. We should all be excited to watch him do the other things Todd wants him to do. Watch and learn, and remember, sacks are overrated, just as wins are.

  13. Will Says:

Yeah ok he’s the most important player on the team, I think they will be coming for Jalon a lot more ya think.

  14. Lakeland Says:

A “One Trick Pony” don’t last long in the NFL
OLBs has to do a lot more than rush the passer
They have to play the run, the pass, and rush the passer

  15. Larrd Says:

If the one trick is sacking quarterbacks they can do fine. Just play him on third and long, if need be. With a good rush defense, there should be lots of those.

  16. McBay Says:

Lakeland and StPeteMatt are wise. They know that there’s more to the game than sacks and wins.

  17. Dadgumit Says:

You have got to be kidding me! You post this crap as if it is the least of the hapless bucs wories.

  18. Justin Says:

    @Lakeland,

While I agree that one-trick pony OLBs don’t last in this league, why do we keep drafting 4-3 DEs and thinking they can slot right into the OLB position and then when they don’t because they don’t know how to cover (they’ve always played D-Line roles) we refuse to play them. Seems like that’s an issue with roster construction and coaching more so than a player issue.
