Todd Bowles: Defensive Line Won’t Change Style With Green Bay’s Offensive Shuffling

October 4th, 2026

Elijah Roberts talks about facing new Packers o-line.

Things are not going well in Titletown.

It seems the Packers are sort of a mirror image of the Bucs through three games. With some Wisconsinites distracted by the Brewers down the interstate making a World Series run, just like the Rays are here across the bridge, the Packers may not be any better than the Bucs.

And just like here with KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles, Packers fans are howling for the head of Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur. The Packers, unlike the Bucs, at least have a win.

The Packers are beat up by injuries. Specifically on the offensive line. So much so Green Bay added three linemen to the roster last week, who all may start against the Bucs.

Since the Packers lost to the Dixie Chicks on Thursday night football over a week ago, they have signed veterans Kevin Zeitler, Laken Tomlinson, and Mekhi Becton, likely with all three starting today.

Last week Joe asked Bowles if a reshuffled offensive line, specifically not knowing who will start, will mess up his defense, which has played well this year.

Bowles said in cases like this, he’s worried about the scheme and style of player the Packers use up front, not so much individual matchups.

“No, that doesn’t bother us as far as overall play on the scheme and everything,” Bowles said of the Packers shuffling their offensive line. “Individually, [there] may be some different things, and then they may do some different things that we’ve got to adjust to on the run, but we’ve got to read our keys and play our technique.”

Defensive tackle Elijah Roberts agreed. The Packers may be changing their starting lineup on the line but they’re not changing offensive coordinators or offensive line coach so they will likely try to do the same things in their three previous games.

“For us, no difference,” Roberts said of new Packers starting offensive linemen. “We see everybody as kind of like jerseys and helmets, not really names and faces.

“So for us, it’s really the same thing up front. Man, we got to be dominant in the run game, and we got to find a way to affect the player.”

Joe thinks the Bucs will do well against the Green Bay rushing attack. They have none, and the Bucs’ run defense has been quite good so far through three games.

A nightmare start to the season, an offensive line decimate by injuries and offensive problems? Fear not fellow Packers fans: Todd Bowles is coming to your rescue!!

Todd has a track record helping struggling fellow coaches getting things on track!
Furthermore, his charity work doesn’t stop there! Struggling with an old QB or a rookie one? Todd has helped dozens of them before!

@joe: potential new sponsor for the Ira Kaufman podcast? 😉

  2. MadMax Says:

Elijah, i pushed for us to draft you, do your thing man. But you’re missing, (upstairs), when you’re not seeing names and faces. ALWAYS know the names and faces of your opponents…..Im sorry todd doesnt teach you this. These are things you do in your time away from the field if you’re serious about winning every battle. Kick that gear up a notch and go after them in your down time (what are they doing?) they got film on you too, so dont be predictable.

  3. FortMyersDave Says:

Todd has an ability to make other bad head coaches and struggling offenses/QBs look good for a week. His defenses collapse late in games when it counts too like the Cleveland debacle. Bowles’ seat should be hotter than Norvell’s in Tallahassee. Heck at least FSU won this weekend as did the Rays and Bolts. I hope the Glazers are noticing the Rays. Scott Reynols has pointed out how the Glazers have missed 2 chances to get better as Coen and now Monken have turned around dumpster fires while they stuck with Todd. Todd turns winners into dumpster fires. Fire him.

  4. Tony Says:

At least we got to help Deshaun Watson possibly turn things around, too!🙄💩

  5. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

    Gruden could fix it

  6. birdie Says:

Fire Todd Bowles,,insert our towel boy.

  7. Win in the Trenches Says:

Todd turns winners into dumpster fires. Fire

Todds charity work doesn’t stop there! Struggling with an old QB or a rookie one? Todd has helped dozens of them before!

Todd is gifted at making no names into ESPN hilight reels

  8. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

A year ago I was saying look out for Matt LF to be a head coach available to replace Todd B after they both get fired. Now, I’m not so sure he isn’t just an offensive version of Todd

  9. Curse of Gruden Says:

There you go. Bowels admits he won’t/can’t(?) change his “scheme” based on the weaknesses of his opponents. Unbelievable.

  10. CosmoKramer Says:

Todd’s defense will ensure defeat today. There’s a pattern of that going on.

Nothing will change. Just steady as she goes.

If you keep doing the same things over and over while expecting different results, that’s considered genius level thinking.

    Todd Bowles is a guru.

  11. JimBobBuc Says:

With a totally new OL, they might struggle in pass pro communications. But Bowles doesn’t run many stunts or games with our DL – an opportunity wasted again.

  12. Sam Says:

    End this night mate already

  13. Gus Lopez Says:

Bucs are the NFL’s shining example of the Peter Principle!

  14. Bucs4ya Says:

What exactly did Gruden do the last time he held a head coach job? The dude is washed up. Thank you for the Superbowl 24yrs ago. Let it go people he’s NOT the answer.

  15. Bosch Says:

This will be a high scoring game including a good offensive showing by the Bucs in a losing effort. Bucs will have a lot of rushing yards. Packers a lot of passing yards. Bucs already weak secondary is severely depleted for this game.

  16. Will Says:

    Please fire Boweles like today.

  17. ManzielMadness Says:

If you notice, nothing in his answer about putting the QB on the ground…

  18. Will Says:

When is Itton going to catch a ball

  19. Justin Says:

“We see everybody as kind of like jerseys and helmets, not really names and faces.”

This might be the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard. If you aren’t identifying personnel weaknesses and capitalizing on them, then you deserve to go 0-17.
