“That’s The Type Of Guy You Want To Run Through A Wall For”
August 12th, 2026You saw it back in 2023 in Baker Mayfield’s first game with the Bucs.
And now, in case you forgot, Bucky Irving is reminding Bucs fans. Baker Mayfield’s teammates have his back. Because he has theirs.
Back in the season opener in 2023, in a key run for a first down late in the game to help seal win, Mayfield lowered his shoulder and ran through a Vikings linebacker.
Then, Mayfield bounced up and barked at the linebacker that he needed to hit the weight room. In the background, you could see Bucs defenders erupt in glee, particularly Devin White.
Lavonte David later said that moment is when Mayfield fully won over the team. They had their quarterback.
Mayfield has been like that ever since.
Mike Garafolo and Maurice Jones-Drew of NFL Network were at the Bucs-Jets controlled scrimmage today and had a sitdown with Bucky.
MJD said he has never had a QB who will talk s(p)it to defenders after running them over like Mayfield. MJD wanted to know what it’s like to play with Mayfield.
Bucky said he loves Mayfield’s passion and how he attacks the game.
“That’s the type of guy you want to run through a wall for,” Bucky said.
He’s right. Mayfield’s Bucs teammates love how he approaches the game and is willing to sell out his body to move the chains.
Joe has a hunch Rueben Bain, Josiah Trotter and Keionte Scott can identify with that style and respond to it much better than the guys those three will replace in the starting lineup this fall.

EE limped off the field at practice.

There’s something to be said about that. Not everything shows up in stat line.

When Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers was taken off the practice field on a stretcher Tuesday, it was a scary moment. But it appears that Stiggers is going to be fine.
The Jets have announced that Stiggers was released from the hospital and is home recovering.
Stiggers ended up needing to be in the hospital for only a few hours after passing out on the sideline during practice. It’s unclear what led him to pass out and there’s been no word on when he might be back at practice.
The 24-year-old Stiggers is heading into his third season with the Jets. He’s an easy player to root for given his journey to the NFL after never playing college football. Stiggers went from high school football to the Fan Controlled Football league and then signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. In 2023 Stiggers was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie, and the Jets drafted him in 2024, making him the first player in 25 years to be drafted by the NFL after playing in the CFL.

Every Bucs player would run through a wall for Baker. That’s why I think we’re going deep into the playoffs this season !!
Go Bucs !!

No one ran through a wall when they finished 2-7 and gagged on a bunch of L’s

The guys those three will replace in the starting lineup this fall were probably affected by the 2-7 mark that resulted in being injured from running through linebackers. I love his Moxy, too but he must play smarter and find another way to make players run through walls, like winning games and not throwing INT’s at critical moments in the game.

Baker reminds me of GnR singer Axl Rose. The guy had horrible technique and badically destroyed his voice. But what he did while it lasted was so good, and so unique, that it was probably worth flaming out. If Baker keeps putting his body on the line, he’s not going to playing for another 10 years, or whatever. But he brings such fire to the game that it might be worth the price.
