Tom Brady Will Eradicate Receiver Complacency

August 13th, 2020

Mike Evans focuses on a Tom Brady pass today at One Buc Palace

How much better can the Buccaneers’ receiving corps become?

It’s a rarely discussed issue, though it’s a top-of-mind topic for a former Bucs receiver.

Blocking icon Michael Clayton, the retired Bucs and Giants wide receiver, joins a long list of fans, pundits and team officials who believe Tom Brady can transform the Buccaneers in many ways.

For Clayton, Brady can make Pro Bowlers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, among other receivers, significantly better.

“Listen, we got great receivers, but when you talk about coming back to the footballs and the little fundamentals that help eliminate turnovers, those guys are going to be held responsible,” Clayton told WDAE radio this week. ” Tom Brady’s going to make sure that they’re on the same page.

“And if they don’t do those little things, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom Brady throws a few interceptions that are not his fault. Just like I’ve been on record to say Jameis Winston threw a handful of interceptions that were not his fault. Those guys have to take responsibility of doing the little things right. Tom Brady is the perfect guy to make sure that those guys get better. It’s very tough to teach an old dog new tricks, but when you got a guy like Tom Brady, everybody’s listening. Everybody wants to learn, and he’s the perfect guy to make sure that one of the best receiving groups get better [this year], not be complacent with the success that they’ve had in the past and really give him what he needs to dominate the league.”

Bucs fans may never know if it happens behind closed doors, but it’ll be interesting to learn and how and when Brady starts to unload on his pass catchers, as he’s famous for doing, when the mistakes start to come in training camp and early in the season.

Joe has no doubt that Brady has the knowledge to make Evans and Godwin better, but Joe’s not sure Brady will have the arm talent to get as much out of them as the former quarterback.

Regardless, the season is about winning, and Joe would wager on Brady over the Saints’ backup.

Clayton can’t get it go that he was dead wrong about Jay-Miss.

  2. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

crazy to think Brady will have Evans, Godwin, Gronk to throw to. Evans and Gronk are going to be unstoppable in the end zone. Gronk’s reach is incredible.

If Rojo improves on his catch ratio of 31 out of 40 targets, we’ll have the best offense in the NFL.

  3. Tye Says:

these receivers are great talents and now that they have a qb talent to throw to them, they can be confident at the line, the moment they take off that they will have way more catchable passes and not waste so much of their energy going after 50/50 balls… that alone should instill great confidence in them to perform better this season..
Play harder for the guy you are sure won’t throw the game winning pass to the opponent!

  4. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Clayton and Ndog, two great apologists for the NOLA 3rd stringer.

  5. ocala Says:

Bucs and Chiefs will be the top two offenses in the NFL, Bucs have the better defense.

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    a “handful” out of 30INTs….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  7. Ndog Says:

You guys are unreal, you just can’t admit anyone on this team was responsible for anything that went wrong other than the QB

it is truly disgusting how transparent you are as you don’t even try to hid your complete bias and lack of accountability for all but one person.

Why do you even comment, no one can even begin to take you seriously when you literally blame everything on one person.

  8. 40TDs Says:

All I know is that everybody could catch my passes. I have the arm. Don’t believe me? Check the sheet!!!!!!!

  9. Buczilla Says:

I think that Evans and Godwin are going to rack up insanely good numbers with Brady. I also think that Gronk could be good too, but I have to see him utilized first before I believe the hype. We damn sure neglected the tight ends last year.

  10. james west Says:

40 TDs who are you? send me message via facebook if your feeling froggy

  11. geno711 Says:

Love that we have Brady on the team. I expect many less errors by this offense this year.

  12. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Ndoggy, he may live in my head, but Jay Miss lives in your colon.

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Good one Alvin!

And did Clayton really say footballs?

    😂

  14. Clw JB Says:

Instead of watching 35 great throws and 5 completely insane ones, we now get 35 great throws and 1 or 2 possible miscommunication/wrong route type throws

Over the course of a season 18-20 less interceptions means 18-20 less possessions for the other team – maybe 2 pick sixes instead of SEVEN

No one is blaming one person solely, yet the main culprit of our demise was, in a glaringly evident way, the QB and to a similar degree the secondary for the first 11 games – re-watch the early season games where VGIII gets absolutely abused – the QB hurt, but so did that pass D for several games

Hopefully, we have adequately addressed both thru FA, the draft, and youngsters getting experience

Ndog: “You guys are unreal, you just can’t admit anyone on this team was responsible for anything that went wrong other than the QB”

Unfortunately for us all, you can admit the QB was responsible for anything that went wrong.

I just listened to the NFL network talk about the bucs and I have never seen or heard of any national media outlets say anything about our running game the hold time Jamies was on the team . Now that Brady is on the team all you hear now is the running game has to be good this year lol 😆😂 . Now Bruce Arians loves to run the ball 🤣 he loves to be physical on offense 😆🤣 . Man this dude set Jamies up to fail and that’s just the truth and yall can’t deny it . I think Jamies is about to get done like Vince Young . I don’t think he will ever get a real opportunity to start again . I told yall that when the national media does not like you they drive a narrative against that player . So more proof is Sam Donald and Baker Mayfield . It’s a make or break year for Mayfield but it’s not for Sam Donald 🤔 ….

  20. Oneilbucs Says:

SB they chose Taylor over Brady as well again the only team that wanted Brady was us and you know it just like every one else know . Lol 😆🤣😂

  21. Oneilbucs Says:

SB WHY DO WE NEED A RUNNING GAME NOW THAT WE HAVE BRADY BUT DIDN’T NEED A RUNNING GAME WITH JAMIES ?? AND REMEMBER WHAT YOU BELIEVE A QUARTERBACK SHOULD STILL WIN WITHOUT A RUNNING GAME ??

  22. SB Says:

ONEIL THIS IS NOT ABOUT BRADY.
It is about your Man Crush!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Answer the question.
You never will because you Can’t. You pride and love of the man won’t let you

Quick Fact Brady better than Winston !!!!!

Fact: Carolina thought Teddy was better
Fact: Jacksonville thought Gardner Minshew (178th pick in the draft) was better.
Fact: Indy thought 38 yr old Rivers was better.
Jeesh I haven’t even completed the list of QBs EVERY team thought was better.

  32. SB Says:

    Better than JW that is.

  33. SB Says:

TB 12 Picked where he wanted to go. He saw the arsenal we have here. He knew the freedom he would have in personnel.

He didn’t have to accept a backup job.

  34. Youngbucs Says:

Sb forget that how many QBS drafted after Winston better????? There’s a couple but they won’t admit that. They actually think Mahomes is only good cause he on the Chiefs 😂😂😂😂. Put Mahomes on the Bucs last year we in playoffs easy.

  35. SB Says:

    ^^^^^ WAY TRUE!!!

  36. SB Says:

    Per BSPN

“Last year, quarterback Jameis Winston struggled against Todd Bowles’ aggressive defense early in training camp, throwing a high number of interceptions. But Brady has seen this defense before, going 8-1 against Bowles when he was head coach of the New York Jets and when he was the interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

  37. BucsFanForever Says:

Interesting Saints fact: the Saints signed Taysom Hill to a 2 year $21 million contract. Jameis was signed for one year at $1.1 million. On the Saints website, their unofficial depth chart lists Brees first team, Hill second team QB’s. Jameis not shown on the depth chart. If Brees goes out of the game with an injury, who will we see replace him?

  38. Ndog Says:

SB it is not my job to educate the uneducated.

  39. SB Says:

It is not even your job to be able to answer a SINGLE question.

ANSWER! Or Be Forever labeled the biggest Idiot on JBF………….wait.

  40. SOEbuc Says:

People think Tom Brady is going to throw the ball every down. We have a deep running game with RoJo certainly getting more carries than last year. Shady in the mix teaching these youngsters. Mike Evans will prove why he’s a top WR with amazing YAC if he could get a pass put where it needs to be. Tom doesn’t need a ton of power the time just hit his open receiver in stride within the 20 yard line.

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs I don’t think no body will wast their time rooting for a team that’s been losing the past 10 years . But again I bring facts yall bring emotions lol 😆🤣.

  42. Oneilbucs Says:

SB and Youngbucs You don’t know how Mahomes would have done over here . Mahomes went to a real coaching staff a team that was making the playoffs before he got there . He has wr that runs 4.2s and they have a waaaaay better system and they can run the ball and play defense and we can’t do any of that . But the facts are the facts rather yall like it or not .

  43. Oneilbucs Says:

youngbucs you know nothing about be I’ve said on here that I’m from Houston . And I’m from the state that has the most draft picks and hall of famers . Out here football is a religion where we learning about football while we were still playing in sand box . The only thing that happened to the bucs is we tried to change our identity from a physical team to a fenest team and the bucs has been soft ever since . The bucs are a team that’s like Pittsburgh or Baltimore type of team we know the history is different . But the indenty was set back in the late 90s . That is the blue print of our team . Pittsburgh and Baltimore never changed their indenty they stayed with who they are . That’s why they always in the hunt . Big Ben had success because of the defense and the running game . That’s why Bruce Arians was fired from Pittsburgh because he wanted to change the culture . Those superbowls was because the head coach made him run the ball rather he liked it or not .
