“I Believe!”

April 9th, 2018

Has old playcaller’s back.

Either Maurice Jones-Drew is super tight with his former Jacksonville offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, or he has turned into a crazy gambler.

Appearing recently on “Total Access” seen on NFL Network, he and Willie McGinest debated what team will go from worst-to-first this season.

And believe it or not, the Bucs, who have resided in Buccaneers Cove (basement of the NFC South) for all but two seasons since Chucky was jettisoned, will rise to the cream of the division this year, MJD said.

“I believe!” MJD said, which drew shrieks of disbelief from host Lindsay Rhodes.

MJD said the Bucs will fix the offense by drafting two running backs this month. Wonder if he has been talking to Koetter or not?

You can watch the full exchange below.

    Playoffs or bust

  2. zzbucs Says:

I pretty much agree on what MJD says only if we get agood and reliable running game….is that the cae, I am a beliver too

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

Head Coach Koetter is 1 and 1 in good to bad seasons!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know why you want to throw in loser lovies 0-2 bottom of the division to paint the current regime in a bad light!!!!!!!! And to think that Joe, the Sheep and so-called fans wanted to see the incompetent one go three straight years of bottom of the division is perplexing at best!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. unbelievable Says:

I want to believe…. but they gotta show it on the field first.

  5. pelbuc Says:

We hear this every off season and then the season starts and Bucs go 2-6. Not a believer until they get to playoffs and win a playoff game. JW is a fraud so far and don’t get me started on the defense and coaches.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

To many yrs of being totally let down by these Bucs. I beleive when I see the team actually winning on the field..period!! All of this other stuf is just..yackety Yack..

  7. SteveK Says:

    Realist,

Even more damning, Lovie has won less games the past four year (2 with Tampa + 2 in college) than Koetter has the past two years with the Bucs.

And, even scarie, Lovie had ZERO prospects from the University of Illinois invited to the NFL Combine this year.

I believe in Koetter! Give him a running back and a pass rush and we will be cooking.

  8. Mike Says:

It’s very hard for a team to gel with as much turnover as it has- especially with an offensive line. They are incompetent and scrambling this kid Marpet’s brain and body by moving him constantly, although I can only imagine that playing center will have dramatically improved his understanding and vision for the game going forward- but now left guard? Put him back at right if anything, where he was burying people. There is such a thing as the athletes body adapting adjusting to certain repetitive movement patterns, this guy is going to end up injured.
Anyway I hope I’m dead wrong, and this staff and front office is genius and in the midst of turning from worst to first, winning it all, and building a dynasty.

  9. ndog Says:

Realist I don’t want to make a change either but you have to actually watch the games and not just look at the record. Our offense last year was very predictable and we don’t do any variation of plays off of the plays we run over and over again. We have not run a trick play in two years, we run the plays with the wrong personnel, no WR screen to D Jax but at least one every game to Hump, why was Charles Simms never used as a kick returner, put D-Jax in the slot, with Godwin and Evan on the outside, more two tight end sets with Godwin and Evans on the outside to take advantage of our great size with run or pass options. I could go on and on but again it is not just the record it is the lack of creativity with the offense that is mind numbing.

  10. SCBucsFan Says:

For a second I thought it was going to say we signed MJD

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

ndog- Realist is too caught up in his defense of Koetter for you to reason with him. Frankly, Koetter has had far superior talent and the product has not looked great. We are led to believe that somehow, this will all change with the same coaching staff in place. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  12. John meeks Says:

Mike,I haven’t heard marpet is going to left guard where did you get that info from?as far as I know he will be going to right guard.joe any comment on this???

  13. John meeks Says:

Scbucsfan, gruden is in Oakland so jones-drew won’t be playing in tampa!😂😂😂

  14. mark2001 Says:

Sounds great…but please. I know it is time to spray the pewter paint around and become intoxicated with the fact we haven’t lost a game in months. But really…. look at the records last year. And what have we done, not even considering what our division opponents have done, this off season that would tell you we are that much better than last year? 8-8 or maybe 9-7 could be achievable…but that likely won’t come close to winning the division.

  15. unbelievable Says:

@john meeks there was some suggestion a few weeks back that Ali could be playing LG. I believe it was Koetter saying that he could play any of the 3 inside positions.

I think it all depends on who we draft at guard and how they come along in camp. Ideally we are picking up a LG or that Ali can pay on the right side. If we’re forced to start Sweezy, then he might play on the right side with Ali on the left (but hopefully not!)

  16. unbelievable Says:

*so that Ali can play on the right side

  17. Defense Rules Says:

It has happened in the past, but I’m still not a big believer in the worst-to-first scenario. And especially in today’s NFL. Some teams who’ve done it had a bad year, but were really just missing a couple of pieces. Several also just needed a coaching change to pull it off. That’s NOT the Bucs … we’re still missing more than a couple of pieces & our coaches have been here for several years now.

I do see us improving this year however. Probably back into the 8-8 to 10-6 realm, assuming we have a good draft. Still too many holes remaining, plus I tend to be a believer in ‘chemistry’ & ‘on-field leadership’ … right now we’re hurting in both categories, but we’re headed in the right direction IMO.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No high expectations for me like last year……was burnt……I do expect improvement.
One thing is for sure….if you give Jameis a running game….and a halfway…..and I mean just halfway decent defense…..he will win a bunch of games.

I’m pleasantly pleased so far with the off-season….and we still have some pieces to add.

  19. BigHogHaynes Says:

We need two running backs in this draft …this is true CONTINUE TO BUILD A WALL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BAY!! Realist: STAY ON THE BLACK!

  20. John meeks Says:

Unbelievable, ok thanks for the info. and I agree marpet needs to be at right guard ,sweezy is garbage!

  21. Wausa Says:

    I agree @Tampabaybucfan:

If Jameis stays healthy this year and they give him a running game and an average defense the Bucs will win a lot of games.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I definitely believe we can turn it around. The problem is, our division is absolutely loaded. Do you see any of the other 3 teams being losing teams? I don’t (maybe Carolina if Cam goes in melt down mode). I think we should be much improved, but to expect us to be the best in our division is a stretch.

  23. Joeypoppems Says:

Drafting 2 RBs is interesting and Im not sure how I feel about it.

lol….the same reason why you throw in dom when talking about the roster…..lol…dom has been gone for how long and you still find an excuse to blame him and lovie for dirks short comings……SMDH……

I agree with MJD that we need to draft 2 RB’s and stay committed to the run game but I don’t see it with this staff……dirk hasn’t had a good run game since lovie stopped holding his hand…..smitty and dirk never had a physical tough team…..

they are known for a soft defense and finesse offense…..I expect more of the same unfortunately…..

  27. Lord Cornelius Says:

IF we don’t trade down; then we are going to have to ignore CB, OG, or RB. I can live with that though. I think that we’re better off going RB/OG in terms of what could push this team to a new level one either side of the ball. A 2nd round CB isn’t going to make our defense dominant. A 2nd round RB + an OG could help make our offense go from average to top 5 or 10 scoring wise.

I could see these types of scenarios playing out:

    A)
    1-Chubb DE
    2-Michel/Guice/Ronald Jones II/Chubb RB
3-Frank Ragnow / Braden Smith OG
    5-CB
    7-BPA – RB/CB/DT

    B)
    1-Barkley RB
    2-Hughes/Alexander CB
3-Frank Ragnow / Braden Smith OG
    5-DE/DT
    7-DE/DT

    C)
    1-Nelson OG
    2-Michel/Guice/Jones/Chubb RB
    4-Quenton Meeks CB
    5-BPA – DE/DT
    6-BPA – DE/DT
    7-RB

Scenario B seems like the best bet of matching needs and value by hitting on RB/CB/ and that final OG piece to our O-line. I’d be ok with any of these though. Trade down scenario opens everything up. If we trade down I hope we nab a higher profile DT or DE at some point; in addition to RB/CB/OG and possibly S if we move back and land a guy like James or something.

Bucsfanman my man. He is always real with his post. One of my favorite people on JBF. Keep it real Bucsfanman and the waiting is getting closer to being over!!! The 26th is not far away and then we will know exactly what we have to work with. Licht has made some good moves but I’m like you……Koetter, Smith and Licht have to prove it to me with them Dubs Jameis is eating for me to get on board with those 3.

  31. Pickgrin Says:

    We shall see…

If Bucs get Nelson in the 1st and a RB in the 2nd – This offense will be ready to rock and roll!

Barkley 1st, CB 2nd and OG with the high 4th pick (or trade up into 3rd if the right Guard is available) sounds like a great way to go as well if the premier RB were to fall to us.

I like how this draft lines up well with most of our biggest needs. CB, RB and OG are all positions of strength in this draft. There will be a much better class of DEs next year…

Here come the annual KODs for the Bucs. Here is KOD #1 for today.

  34. Guzzie Says:

The Bucs aren’t drafting a guard 1st, and won’t trade down, Licht is too much of a wimp, he’ll draft Derwin James, then Chicago or SF will trade down and get a couple of picks, it’s the Buc way, not allowed to enjoy it as fans

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

What’s happening Tandyman?! Hey, I appreciate the props but believe me, I WANT them to prove me wrong.
I can see Coach Koetter now in the war room: “Licht, there’s a lot of apprehension over mine and Smitty’s ability to turn this around!”
Licht: “What a-hole is mouthing off this time?”
    DK: “It’s that ‘Fanman’ again.”
Licht: “Aw crap! What’s our next step? We do not need this guy breathing down our necks.”
DK: “He’s quoting the late Al Davis again! ‘Just win baby!”
Licht: “So how do we do it?”
DK: “Look, we are going to kick a$$ and take names! I’m settling for nothing short of 16 wins for the Fanman. That should teach that ungrateful ingrate!”
Licht: ” Man, he’s really got you pumped!”
DK: “Get out of my way Jason, I have to teach this guy a lesson!”

At least that’s how I see it going down in my brain, anyway! LOL!

  37. mike Says:

If Nelson is on the board,
    We will take him-
If he’s as good as he is rated, Light is a former o lineman probably drooling over this guy

  38. Bossmode Says:

Those draft spot could have made more since if we were picking at 5 instead of 7th. Bad decision keep the circle if life going for the bucs
