Winston Advised Of Stripper & “Questionable Girl” Rules

March 5th, 2015

JameisThere are unwritten rules when you’re the face of the franchise, which Jameis Winston is telling everyone he wants to be.

These rules, well, they go beyond the playbook.

Ex-Bucs guard Ian Beckles (1990-1996) is hearing all the big chatter from Winston and is firing back wisdom, via his big microphone at WDAE-AM 620.

Beckles is advising Winston to “say less,” or learn very fast what it will take to succeed in a fish bowl.

“My problem is if you keep on talking about, ‘I want to be the face of the franchise, face of the franchise.’ That’s fine. But in this day and age, in 2015, it’s not like it used to be,” Beckles said on the Ron and Ian show.

“If you’re the face of the franchise, ok, this is what you can’t do. You can’t go to a strip club — at all. You can’t go to a club and get drunk — at all. You can’t take a picture with a questionable girl — at all. So watch what you want. You see what I’m saying. You can put yourself in that light, that’s fine. But if you think you’re not going to do anything wrong, I think he’s going to mess up still.

“Watch out if you want to be the face. Ok. Watch out.”

Let Joe pause for a moment. Joe’s not sure how Beckles is defining a “questionable girl.” Is that a dude in drag? Or is that a porn star? Joe will try to get a clarification.

As for all the “face of the franchise” talk from Winston, Joe has no problem with it. Eventually, his teammates will tell him to cool it until he accomplishes something. But the reality is once Winston is drafted, all that will matter is performance.

If he wins consistently, he’s a beautiful face, and he can take selfies with all kinds of questionable women. If he flops, then he can go play minor league baseball in few years.

(You can enjoy Beckles’ full rant below.)

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo has some very good advice for Winston. Pablo always checks for adams apples when he finds a “questionable girl”. Pablo had a very bad experience after about 30 cervezas and some shots of Jose…..”Pablo found himself in the back seat of Pablo’s chevy….Pablo cannot describe the horror. Pablo also suggests that Jameis wear a body-cam to document all experiences with non-questionable females. Not that Pablo doesn’t trust Winston…Pablo doesn’t trust any women other than Pablo’s Madre”

  5. WS99 Says:

Please see “snow phat”. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

speaking of strokes she could get a few.

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

Good advice for any college athlete headed to the pros, Ian! I think part of the reason why I’m down on Winston (I won’t try to speak for anyone else), is because of theJohhny Footballl fiasco in Cleveland. I know that Winston hasn’t shown up in Vegas (yet) partying with Lebron and taking selfies with hot girls by the pool, but I think there are some parallels to be made…past behavior can (in some cases) be a predictor of future behavior. You would think that “immaturity” would cease to be an issue after a guy signs a contract and goes from being a college kid, to a man being paid to play against the best athletes in the world. But it doesn’t always work out that way. I’m not saying Winston will end up like Manziel….only that teams now have to be extremely sure before pulling the trigger on a guy who has some immaturity/character/behavior issues.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I have posted before about PR….and I don’t quite agree that it is “all” about performance. I believe fans deserve both performance and good behavior.

For Winston, the scrutiny will be enormous….he will have to abstain from many temptations….and he will have the money to afford them. It will take considerable common sense, restraint and maturity to be successful.

Even the smallest incidents will be blown out of proportion. Fair or not, he will be considered to have already had his second chance.

Fear of the unknown can be a powerful instinct. He can state (even with sincerity) that he is human….made mistakes….has learned his lesson….is trustworthy….wants to be the “Face of the Franchise” all he wants….but he won’t be able to convince everyone without living it.

So….he will have to perform…..and he will have to live up to the role model that he aspires to be.

  8. WS99 Says:

I recommend every go follow Jaboo on Instagram. Unlike Johnny football who posted all kind of pic of him partying JW posts pics of him with his little brother, elemtarybclassrooms, church and his girlfriend.

I understand the fear and skepticism but I believe it’s unwarranted.

  9. WS99 Says:

Snowphat isn’t a stripper pornstar (a fake Coco) that Russell Wilson dates or dated. Wilson has even favorited tweets by Miss Gay universe of something like that, talk about a questionable girl.

So I must ask you why can Russell Wilson do as he pleases? Is he not the face of a franchise?

  10. BirdDoggers Says:

The problem is Winston might not be content with quiet evenings at home, staying out of trouble. If he craves the spotlight and likes to be more social, things could turn out bad for him and the Bucs. He will have a spotlight on him and cameras are always rolling. That’s part of the problem with his past. People are waiting for him to screw up. It’s a big risk for the Bucs and a risk they might have trouble getting comfortable with.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @WS99

Richard Sherman is the face of the Seahawk Franchise…..

No way! I still see Wilson on commercials. Sherman’s commercials only air on football Sunday’s.

  16. Supersam Says:

What Beckles is saying, is that Winston is trying to be someone he’s not. Winston is never gonna be able to be 100 percent whole heartedly the “face of a franchise” just won’t happen, he’ll mess up eventually.

  17. WS99 Says:

    Superman

Didn’t you say you wanted to sign AP and Hardy?

  18. Supersam Says:

We’re not wasting a first overall pick on Peterson or hardy, think about it.

Yes jaboowins5 and why wouldn’t you wanna follow a giant booty? Is that a trick question?

  29. buddha Says:

The past is the best predictor of the future. That’s why we study history. That’s why psychoanalysis has been so fruitful. That’s why so many FSU fans think Winston will be a star in the NFL. They believe he will repeat previous behavior.
That’s why the Buccaneers have been rumored to hire two psychiatrists to advise them about Winston. This is not immaturity. It’s wired into his character structure.

  30. Dick2111 Says:

@Joe … If he flops, then he can go play minor league baseball in a few years.”

Spent my first career flying fighters, and never once did I hear anyone say in combat ‘Well, if this doesn’t work out I can always go fly for the airlines’. When your butt’s on the line, there is no ‘I’d rather take what’s behind Door B instead’.

I prefer players (QB or otherwise) who are in it all the way. Players who are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. The Bucs seem to have signed too many who don’t seem to ‘hate losing’ the same way that Sapp, Brooks, Lynch and Nickerson did.

Still not convinced Jameis is that kind of player. Fortunately there’s still 2 months for folks like Lovie and Licht to figure out whether he is or isn’t.

  31. tval Says:

Ej and ponder were choir boys as well..gotta find the hard working guy that can stay young at heart (brady buttn heads) so he can still be friends after ripping their a.sses on the field..i dont see marcus snatching mike evans by the facemask, do you?? Thats what a super bowl qb brings to the table

  32. tval Says:

@dick..oh, hes “all in”..dont try to confuse that statement with any reluctance of from winston..hes been a qb prodigy, studying the game, since elementary school..his qb notes at that age are astounding.

  33. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard laughs at the Winstonites that argue: “everybody gets in
trouble. I got in trouble and look how great person I am now.”
and the classic: “So and so (Manning) was accused in college and
no one made a big deal then.”

    Great argument guys.

  34. crazy Says:

The problem with the face of the franchise talk from a draft prospect is he comes off as a guy planning his HOF induction speech before he’s even drafted. Besides every Buc is the face of the franchise when he shows up on the police blotter for punching a cabbie, stabbing his brother, trashing his fancy house, gets pulled over with contraband or whatever. Rookies should shut up and play.

  35. Eric Says:

Who said Winston goes to strip clubs?

    Or bars?

Raheem Morris used to go all the time. Who cares?

    Rediculous.

    —————————————–

Are we talking about the same number 5?

  42. Pickgrin Says:

As long as he is eligible to play ball every Sunday – I could care less what happens in his personal life off the field. Such a ridiculous and overly PC world we live in these days. You think all the greats from the past who had “colorful” personal lives could live up to the scrutiny that is now being forced on our sports stars? People are human. They sometimes make errors in judgement and bad decisions in their life. We all do and we all have. The President got a BJ in the white house from a girl less than half his age and lied to the whole country about it for God’s sake – and yet he is not defined by that.

Jameis Winston is a winner, a fiery leader and one hell of a talented and knowledgeable quarterback. Tape says it all. The rest is just noise.

  43. Howard Cosell Says:

Most folks that post in here get insulted if you say
that L&L know more about football than they do.

  44. WS99 Says:

There’s just not a lot to hang your hat on when you go 2-14.

  45. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

Jameis Winston is being drafted by the Bucs.

    Thee end.

  46. iamkingsu Says:

    @joe

In other news go look up this kid Ben Heeney LB out of Kansas. He can run, tackle and cover and you can see his football instincts on tape. He should be a no brainer if he’s there in the 3rd or 4th

  47. BP52 Says:

If Winston finds out that he can’t go to the lunchtime Crab Legs buffett at the Mons Venus, he may prefer to be drafted by the Jets

  48. Howard Cosell Says:

Mons Venus has a crab buffet?

  49. mikeh Says:

I hope Winston is more than noise cuz what he did at FSU means crap! and he is doing a lot of yapping!

  50. LargoBuc Says:

Look at RG3. He’s intelligent and well spoken. But at the turn of a hat the media can take what you say and turn it into controversy.
If Jameis talks a big game, the media will be waiting for him to struggle. They can’t wait to take a household name like Jameis Winston and take anything he says and use it to generate headlines.

  51. mac Says:

    Ian Beckles has “horse sense”…

You know because of the horse thing…

  52. mikeh Says:

not saying what he did on he field at FSU was not good cuz it was. just saying this is the NFL and we all know every player coach and gm etc. is listening.

  53. mikeh Says:

    @ LARGOBUC- EXACTLY!

  54. I'm a great person Says:

Like my self, Jameis is a “Great person” there’s nothing to worry about!

  55. Don Says:

See Johnny Football history. Says it all

  56. lurker Says:

  60. knuckledragger Says:

There were definitely no crab legs there. Maybe some chicken legs and some chicken heads.

  61. JSmalls Says:

Russel Wilson divorced his long time girlfriend after two years, stole another athletes girl friend then dumped her for a porn star – What’s the big deal. Win and no one cares. If you lose, being a choir boy doesn’t keep your job.

  62. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s 9:54 pm…..do you know where your future franchise QB is?

  63. BoltIsle Says:

Since Winston is the next Manziel, that means Mariota is the next Dennis Dixon.
    Both comparisons are idiotic.

  64. knuckledragger Says:

As a founding member of the Trade down crowd I have to laugh at the demographic of separations here. The Mariota crowd is almost non existent compared to the Winstonites vs the Winston doubters, and the Anti Winston crowd……
    Hilarious.

  65. Howard Cosell Says:

Winston and Manziel are totally different.
Manziel has questionable talent and substance issues.
    Winston has talent but he’s a loose-cannon.

Manziel will fade out without ever doing much.
Winston could be really good if he can stay out of trouble.

  66. Dreambig Says:

Ian is full of it. Winston doesn’t have to be a choir boy as long as he plays well and doesn’t do anything illegal. If the Bucs are winning no one will give a crap as long as he is performing. No one cared about Mike Williams shenanigans until it started affecting his performance on the field. As long as he is reasonably well behaved all will be good. He is only 21 or 22, I don’t think his life is over yet.

  67. chris k Says:

TBBF and Crazy make crazy sense to me!

  68. the real Buck Bruce Says:

I buy season tickets if we draft Marcus Mariota, I don’t go to any games if we draft Jameis Winston my girlfriend won’t let me because I cannot let her daughter wear a rapist Jersey.for that matter even just cheer for a rapist.

  69. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

I’ll buy 7 season tickets if they draft Jameis Winston and 3 jersey’s the day after the draft.

  70. Owlykat Says:

Jamis is just a taller Johnny Football but a lot slower in the 40. I seem to remember Johnny Football talking a good talk before the Browns stupidly believed his lies and wasted a first pick on him. Winston is too big of a risk. Leopards don’t change their spots. Take the safe risk with Mariota and have the face of the franchise Tampa Bay can be proud of. Compare the 18 picks to the two by Mariota in the regular season. You have a Pro OC who can design a spread offense to maximize Mariota’s talent just like the Broncos did when Tebow came in after their four losses in a row and won seven games in a row and took Denver to the playoffs and beat the Super Bowl Champ in his first playoff game. He would have won several SBs by now if the Broncos hadn’t ditched him for a statute QB who hasn’t won a SB yet for the Broncos. Take Mariota, trade statute Glennon for a third pick and hire Tebow to mentor Mariota and take the reigns until our remade OL gets good enough to keep Mariota safe. That is the smart move Lovie!!!

  71. lurker Says:

good move is not picking the second-best qb prospect in the draft, silly owl. you take jameis christ #1 and let him resurrect this franchise.

  72. Senor Mofo Says:

Both of these QBs are great, and both are in for a rude awakening in the NFL.

Mariota is a perfectionist. His first few games in the NFL, he will be tentative because he will be trying to do everything right. He will make stupid, silly mistakes.

Winston is an arrogant gambler. His first few games, he will be desperately trying to prove how great he is. He will make stupid, silly mistakes.

Mariota will get frustrated and angry, but he will grow and learn.

Winston will get frustrated and angry, and will lash out.

Mariota will analyze his environment and systematically get better. Winston will wonder why he can’t just impose his will on people.

Draft Mariota. We will all sleep better, and this team will be good for years and years.

  73. AussieBucco Says:

The real Buck Bruceis a rapist. There’s no evidence of that, I just say he is.

  74. Cody Says:

And with the 1st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft…The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jameis Winston – Quarterback FSU…

Can’t wait to hear these words…

  75. seminolebuccaneer Says:

Trying to remember when ive heard of jameis being in a club, let alone a strip club. Keep in mind the guy (beckles) saying this is the same guy whos “sports” radio show is 50% talk about womens racks and lower rigs…

  76. Phil Says:

I think the girls at Mons are hoping Jameis is a player.

  77. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Winning will solve (or excuse) most issues or the actions of athletes for most Tampa Bay fans. However, journalists and women who seek out publicity and/or money in athletes will be less forgiving.

  78. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Beckles is providing some old school advice. If you are seen with certain type of people (whether they be drug dealers, gangs, or strippers and ho’s) then that is the type of people you associate with and that is how people will come to think of you. Guilty by association. Everything is magnified in the limelight as the target…er…the face of the franchise, when people will no doubt come around to test your resolve.
