Dashon Goldson Is Being Targeted

If there was any doubt the zebras are bird-dogging Dashon Goldson, that “The Hawk” is being singled out by the suits of the NFL, it was clear today.

Dashon Goldson has been penalized so much this season that he actually had to sit out a game for what game officials thought was hitting too hard.

Today, in the ugly loss to the Rams, Goldson got flagged. Again. Early in the fourth quarter. A play that set up a Rams field goal. The zebras said he hit Rams receiver Stedman Bailey too hard, that Bailey was “defenseless.”

Joe calls bullspit on that one.

First, what exactly are defenders supposed to do? Let guys catch a ball? Let guys take two or three steps in order to build up steam before they can tackle them?

Besides, if Goldson really wanted to lay Bailey out, he would have. It was a clean hit by every definition of football.

Except the definition that NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell is trying to re-define. It is making a mockery of the game Joe loves.

He’s being targeted but he also made an illegal hit according to the rules. He smashed directly helmet to helmet. I hate the rules. It makes football hard to watch. But all of your previous articles talk about him needing to adapt to the rules, something he’s still not doing.

  2. Bucfan#37 Says:

You can’t make a decent tackle anymore in this league. The running backs can lay a helmet on a helmet when plowing through the defenders.

  3. RastaMon Says:

Lower the target…..same blow to the stomach/solar pexis… closing from the side or back……kidney or spline @ pelvis…. not the same game anymore…..

  4. Hawk Says:

I spoke with Nostradamus, a little while ago (we go *waaay* back) and he said that in five years,
“The NFL will distribute ‘flags’ for all players to wear. There will be advertising on these flags, and any player who willfully desecrates a flag will be penalized and then heavily fined and/or suspended. Also any player who pulls off an opposing player’s flag with anger or the intent (in the officials’ opinion) to damage the flag will be penalized and then heavily fined and/or suspended. QBs will be carried onto the field on a palanquin by the offensive linemen and it will be a death sentence to touch so much as the hem of his skirt.”
And then Nosti (as his friends call him) went back to sleep.
I wish I could honestly say that this is *all* sarcasm.

  5. Jdpd Says:

Completely disagree here. These rules are there for everyone. He needs to adjust the way he plays just like everyone else has. If he doesn’t then that is on him, not on the refs to bail him out.

  6. Macabee Says:

I thought the penalty called on Clayborn was a travesty. It was a textboook tackle above the waist and below the neck. I don’t know how that could have been a penalty. Not just Hawk, our team may be targeted. A real shame!

  7. BoJim Says:

Man it’s a drag that we signed him because he IS a hitter 🙁

    Please change the rules back.

  8. RastaMon Says:

    simple…defense fields 14 players……

  9. buccanAy Says:

the nfl is a shell of itself…and is becoming unwatchable

  10. SeanyMac in SC Says:

I today’s NFL, he is more of a detriment to the team than an asset. Sick Of It.

  11. Clowney Says:

Let’s ask Junior Seau what he thinks about these new sissy rules.

    Errrr…….never mind.

  12. Gt40bear Says:

The name will soon change to PFL…use your imagination, don’t want to offend any female readers! And yes Joe, that is EXACTLY what the NFL wants…let them catch the ball then run, if you can tackle him, too bad. They are trying to turn it into an outdoor Arena League…or they are catering to the Fantasy Football people. Soon it will be dead to me much as NASCRAP is now.

  13. Chris Says:

Joe you can argue the rules all you want but goldson led with the crown and clearly helmet to helmet.

Goldson needs to adjust. Barron has. He wraps guys up that comes towards the middle and attacks the shoulder pads.

Goldson was the worst signing this offseason. He doesn’t grade out as a top 10 safety but is paid as the top dog in the league. Dom you strike again.

  14. Bucfan40 Says:

Hawk didn’t lead with his helmet. He actually broke down, kept his eyes up, and followed through and wrapped up. Helmet to helmet only happened because of the posture of both players. I haven’t played in years but that tackle he made today was 100% text book. I’ve never been more furious at a call.

  15. Brandon Says:

You guys are only saying the NFL is unwatchable because we’re Buc fans. What’s unwatchable is this terrible team. Bring in Lovie!

  16. sho-nuff Says:

this game has pretty much lost me as a fan…. the same reason why I couldn’t stand the afl is why i’m starting to loathe this game…. no flow. penalty on nearly every play. And its true. you drill someone in the chest with your shoulder and their neck snaps back…you get flagged…..nope I’m pretty much a casual fan anymore spending my glorious florida sundays outside these days…between the gutless bucs and their weasel ownership. I have better things to do….but no worries I will still bang on you suckers while I point and laugh at what has become a dope show

  17. Bucman Says:

Pay attention. Look at the replay. Receiver turned into the tackle. No way could defensive back read receiver’s action. He was making a text book tackle on a WR who had his back to the tackle and then turned into it.

He took 3 steps, how far does “defenseless” go?
