Did Baker Mayfield Make History On Sunday?
November 4th, 2026
Baker Mayfield had 14 yards running Sunday.
If history holds, Baker Mayfield will be the answer to bar bets for the next 52 years.
Mayfield did not complete a pass Sunday in the Bucs’ 16-0 thrashing of the Dixie Chicks. The last quarterback to win a game without completing a pass was the Bills’ Joe Ferguson in 1974.
So for the next half century, dudes in bars will win beers knowing the answer to the following: Who was the last NFL quarterback to win a game without throwing a completion?
Joe isn’t sure if that’s good or bad for Mayfield, but Joe suspects Mayfield doesn’t like it.
There could be more misery for Mayfield. Folicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN claims he cannot find an instance where a starting quarterback played two full games, back-to-back victories, and didn’t have at least 10 completions total in those two wins.
Two Sundays ago in Carolina, Mayfield had just seven completions in a Bucs blowout win.
Barnwell is not bullish on the Bucs accomplishing anything in the postseason unless Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson can develop a passing attack. Until then, Barnwell doesn’t believe the Bucs need to have a complete offense. He thinks the Bucs can win the NFC South landfill just by playing smashmouth football and simply abandoning the pass.
… Amid talk that Todd Bowles might be fired after Tampa Bay’s 0-4 start, the Buccaneers have won three of their past four, going to overtime with the Steelers in their lone loss. They’re a half-game out of first place in the NFC South with victories over the Falcons and Panthers already in the books. The Bears and Lions will be stiffer tests over the next few weeks, but the Bucs sure look like they can play defense and run the ball effectively, and that might be enough to be the best team in the South.
The Bucs will need at least seven wins to win the division. The Panthers pulled off a seven-win division title in 2014.
So that would mean the Bucs (3-5) would have to go at least 4-5 the rest of the way, a stretch that includes four more NFC South landfill games, two against the slimy Saints and one each with the Dixie Chicks and Stinking Panthers. A sweep of the NFC South landfill, along with their win over Dallas, would give the Bucs seven wins.
The remaining non-Landfill road games are at Chicago, Detroit and (Saint Lamar Jackson-less?) Baltimore; at home, it’s the horrid Chargers and Rams.
A division sweep and a win over the Crows or Chargers would get the Bucs to eight wins and might just lock up a division title and save KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles’ job.
Baker Mayfield is a football guy 😤

They had a passing offense in the first three games. In order Mayfield fumbled, Hurst dropped an easy pass, and punt defense gave up a,TD. A kid nobody wanted played like that. Now Mayfield can heal and he will be ready to throw when he needs to.

How embarrassing for Jessie Bates…

All Baker needed to do to win last week was hand the ball off and take care of the football.
We won however Baker still had three fumbles…
And we are paying this guy $67.5M (20% of cap) next season?
Good grief.

I have 2 problems with this article:
You have no way of knowing that it will be another 50 years until that event happens again. It could happen at anytime although obviously highly unlikely.
The 7 win season in 2014 was a 16 game season and not the current 17 game season that started in 2021.
Like last weeks game, this article is sloppy Joe.

@ Steve
And Trent Dilfer sucked arse.
So what?

@ Steve
Was Dilfer making 20% of B-more’s cap?
I think not.
Dilfer was making $15 an hour back then and that was too much…
LOL!

Marine Buc,
Still pretending to be a Marine? Come down to Parris Island, SC. Have some guys who would like to meet you.

@ Gipper
No thanks.
I like the ladies – not too hyped on meeting your boyfriends…
But I believe BakerFan and Kenton would like to join you.
They have the tendencies you are looking for.

Is this really what the Glazers want? To be in the running to win the division — as long as it stays crappy — but have no realistic chance to do anything beyond that?

You roll the dice ! Every team, every season is different
Winning a division helps
Meaningful games in December is 1st on the list

I’m on record with JBF as pointing out that the Bucs will always have a mid season swoon as long as Todd Bowles is the HC. Maybe – just maybe the team moved that swoon a little bit forward this year like our clocks in the spring. Maybe – just maybe the annual swoon is behind them and our beloved Bucs go on a heater from here on out. Get past the Bears in Chicago Sunday evening then who knows 🤷♂️?
