“Hell, They Weren’t Lighting It Up With Baker Mayfield At Quarterback”

October 4th, 2026

Has Jalon Daniels’ back.

People who think the season is over now that the Bucs are starting an undrafted rookie quarterback today are thinking backwards.

Who says this? Chucky says this.

The first coach who guided the Bucs to a Super Bowl win, Chucky, has Jalon Daniels’ back. While folks may think the Bucs are doomed after starting 0-3, Chucky is looking at it like Daniels just might be the right guy to kickstart the Bucs’ offense today.

“You know, a lot of people are like, ‘Woe is me! We got a rookie, undrafted quarterback playing for us. Woe is me!’

“You know, you can look at it like that, and I’m sure Daniels can look at it like, ‘Man, that’s a big burden on my shoulders.’ I don’t think so.

“You can also look at it like this: What a freaking opportunity! This is this is the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Besides, Chucky said, the Bucs’ offense with Baker Mayfield was downright ghastly last week. Maybe the Bucs need someone different like Daniels to mix things up and light a fire under some people.

“Hell, they weren’t lighting it up with Baker Mayfield at quarterback,” Chucky said. “They were turning the ball over. They turned it over seven times. They have had eight holding calls, 13 sacks [and had a] hard time putting it in the end zone.

“Maybe this kid can give the Buccaneers a spark that they need to wake this team up.”

Backup quarterbacks starting games this season are 6-0. And in recent years, undrafted rookie Qbs have strung together wins.

So could Daniels lead the Bucs to an upset today? Joe’s seen stranger things.

Stop this autodownload of the podcast.

  2. ATLBuc Says:

Thats exactly right! With the exception of the defense, we couldn’t play much worse than we’ve been playing.

  3. David Says:

Nope. I like the kid, but the problem is the offensive line. He’s going to be running for his life. Who is his back up?

Oh sorry, but any semblance of optimism is gone. I tried to get on board with the fact that they kept the head coach while firing everyone else but 0–3 will change that in a hurry. Pissed off he’s still the coach. Pissed off that they are wasting an entire year because of it.

The bottom line is this team has a lot of talent and they’re not prepared. Mentally, they can turnovers and holding calls and jump off sides, etc. , etc.

    It’s coaching.

  4. FortMyersDave Says:

I hope Chuckie is right but he did not factor in how Bowles’D and his influence on the offense cwill negate any advantages Tampa had. Fire Bowles.

  5. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Gruden never met a qb he didn’t like. He’s a used car salesman who never developed a single drafted or FA qb so in my opinion he has no credibility on this subject. As a fan I hope Daniels plays good, but this team has a lot of problems that a UDFA can’t fix. The hype and expectations are completely unfounded.Nothing he did in preseason indicates he is capable at this level.

Jalon Winnings! We all want a Kurt Warner or a young TB12 miracle.

  7. Bucs33Saints14! Says:

On Gruden, as Jeff Garcia said during the Farve scramble: “John Gruden loves quarterbacks, but he likes to just date. He doesn’t like to marry.”

  8. Stpetematt Says:

Yeah he’s not Mendoza. He’s a bridge to Baker getting healthy again.

  9. Jeagan1999 Says:

    I miss Chucky!

  10. James west Says:

Turn out the lights the party’s over

  11. Win in the Trenches Says:

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  12. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Not saying we win. But there aren’t too many other teams I would rather them be playing this week.

    So you’re saying there’s a chance…….

  13. Lightningvinny1 Says:

One win,, just one win, Today!!! LaFluer gets fired and will be available and we go to 1-3 ,, perfect scenario

  14. dmatt Says:

Rookie, undrafted, or drafted, I believe Jalon will do much better than Baker. Baker brought most of the sacks on himself. He tends to run in the gut of the line as defenders shed the OL block to cling on to him for a sack. Baker is his own worst enemy because:
    1. He plays recklessly
    2. Lack of arm strength
    3. Prideful, will play with injury when he knows coming out will give them a best
    chance of winning.
    4. Inaccurate
    5. And, to sum it up. Actually, since 2023, Baker wants everyone to forget about
Brady’ s legacy with the Bucs as a genuine n true leader. He’s been trying
desperately to compete with Brad. If he just played his game n quit trying to
prove to Bucs Nation that he can do it better than Brady, then he wouldn’t have
these existing problems. That’s really the problem with him mentally. Brady is
renting space free in his head.

The same is happening in Pittsburg with Aaron Rodgers. Baker n Aaron needs to understand that Brady got buy in from coaches, players, media, n fans. He has the “It” factor.

I agree with Chucky, why not. The Bucs can only go up. The offense has been bad period. Absolutely looking forward to seeing the kid play.

  16. Dubcity6 Says:

Baker looks like an undrafted rookie free agent

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

Obviously the worst thing that could happen is that already prone offense could roll off the carpet and onto the bare floor. There’s just not much room left to fall.

  18. Hodad Says:

Expecting this kid to be the spark the Bucs need is unreal. It would take a bolt of lightening to spark this team. Besides, wasn’t Mayfield supposed to be the 165 million dollar fire starter?

  19. Lakeland Says:

    I have always said,

This is a fanbase of backwards thinkers

  20. Winny Testaverde Says:

Chunky now a cartoon character on Barstool Fools Inc. while his lawsuit vs The NFL drags on for eternity.

Remember when Chunky was propping up the Polish PopGun Gradkowskis as a rookie? I do…unfortunately.

Chunky alternates between Buc FanBoy and wanna be their head coach yet again.

  21. Will Says:

    Word

  22. Wild Bill Says:

It will be very interesting to see how the kid plays. Win or lose, if he shines brightly we may have a future star. If he plays poorly we are stuck with no great options for this season. Evaluate all the rookies during this season. Clean house with the head coach on down. Rebuild with early round draft pics and free agents.

  23. Lakeland Says:

    Jalon Daniels or Easton Stick

I will take either over Baker Mayfield at this point
