KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles didn’t seem too thrilled with his offense after yesterday’s joke of a loss to the hapless Browns.
Nor should he. The constant shorter-than-short passes to running backs, which didn’t do a damn thing other than make sure the Browns got the ball back quickly, really rankled Joe.
At one point, Joe took to Twitter to suggest to Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson that the State of Florida has no state statutes forbidding quick slant passes.
A couple of hours later after the game, Bowles seemed to have mind-melded with Joe.
“We can’t commit the penalties,” Bowles began. “We have to have a better ground game early, early in the first half.
“[We] probably have to throw some quicker passes, as well.”
Thank you! That’s just what Joe was getting at on Twitter. Bowles hinted that Cleveland’s defense was doubling Bucs receivers and jamming them, taking away long passes and forcing the Bucs to play dink-and-dunk.
So why didn’t Robinson try some more passes, not deeper, but intermediate? But that would mean scheming up players to get open.

The quick slant was open, but Zac Robinson had already committed emotionally to the checkdown.
Nothing strikes fear into a defense like a three-yard completion on 3rd-and-9.

Zac Robinson is still dealing with the mental trauma from his time in ATL…sheesh. At this point bring Gruden back, at least we’d have an offensive minded coach that would show some emotion.

Season is already lost. It was lost when the Glazers decided Licht, and Bowles are their guys. Maybe they should’ve paid more attention to the fans. Maybe they will going forward.

This (and I hope I’m wrong) is only going to get worse- we’ve signed Baker to big money- but our O line is mid to lower tier IMO. Protection yesterday was bad – run blocking most times is bad but I think a lot of both is the offensive scheme from Robinson which I don’t like. We have regressed little by little year after year from our SB win with Brady and now we are here- week 2, losing our home opener to the Browns and now 0-2 – tied for last place with the Falcons already looking up. I think it’s time folks- new GM, New HC, new OC again, New DC- just gut it already so we can get back to where most of us want to get to. Winning football in TB.

By the way- Zac Robinson came from Atlanta – yes Atlanta – stop all the McVay tree crap as if that’s going to automatically get us an 12-5 record – his offense was not good enough in Atlanta –

And I agree – Ebuka spent most of the game in motion back and forth etc – for what? Robinson isn’t fooling anyone – this isn’t Plant vs Leto

When you hear announcers talking about “throwing guys open” in some instances, that takes timing, anticipation, precision, and touch. Which are things we don’t get from the pocket and barely ever have. For ever Green Bay or Seattle game there’s 3-4 games like yesterday in terms of passing performance.
People talking about and blaming the defense this week and last, yet we’ve scored 20 & 19 points in 2 consecutive weeks. No NFL team is winning much scoring that little points. Especially not struggling to score that little points in 60 minutes.

The team is a reflection of its HC soft, mentally spaced out, no passion. QB well QB will rather be liked than hold himself and others accountable for doing their job. all around loser mentality.

Glazer Mistake 1
Keeping Bowles instead of launching him. Should have happened to keep Coen, and last year he earned a trip to them unemployment line. His game management has single handedly cost this team 9 games out of the last 11. He fired half his defensive staff, only to replace them with the exact same guys. And his unqualified son.
Glazers Mistake 2
Paying Baker when you didn’t have to. Sounds like this unforced error came from the Glazer sibs.
Glazers Mistake 3
Rewarding Vea. This guy should have been traded. They could have gotten great value. Instead, they overpaid an aging DT hitting that age where father time catches them. This also sounds less like a Licht decision and more like a directive from the sibs to get this done.

quick slants have to be thrown 2 step drop behind the Oline. Baker is too short to throw a quick slant he cant see or read the D thus holding onto the ball and happy feet.

Seriously, the way to deal with the type of pressure Baker was under is the WCO. Not dumping the ball off to a back behind the LOS. Gruden needs to help hapless Zac. Play calling so retarded, even a casual fan like myself could see it.

Yes- and what is it with all this arc and orbit motion ? Only just to hit Bucky or Gainwell 4 yards behind the LOS- Robinson is already in over his head and our offense clearly looks worse

When are the Glazers going to learn, when you hire coaches like Dungy, Gruden, Arians, you get great results. When you hire coaches like Smith, Shiano, and Bowles, you don’t.

I saw us expand the lead to 10 after driving the length of the field to open the second half. I saw a rookie receiver run 55 yards with a short seam and our linebackers and secondary all whiffed on tackles. I saw a tied game, 16-16 starting the 4th quarter. I saw our kicker give us a 4th quarter lead (again). I saw their offense take 6 minutes off the clock and an uncoordinated TE who hadn’t score an NFL touchdown in 2 years almost fall down on a third and 2 and ramble untouched into the end zone to put use behind by 4. I saw an NFL receiver drop a game winning touchdown pass that hit him in the middle of both of his hands. After our first round pick of a center got flagged for holding.
I believe we’re on the verge of righting this ship. Mayfield and Bowles are going to get this thing turned around. I’m thinking we win 12 of the next 15. If we stay fairly healthy.

Why are we blaming the OC? The plays are there to be made but a special someone can’t read the D pre snap. Every play seems like a surprise to Mayfield.
I could be wrong but the Egbuka TD. Godwin was wide open in the flat for the TD but Baker failed to pull the trigger because he’s confused. Luckily The browns didn’t cover anyone and he was able to get it out to EE. That play was designed to be a “quick” pas to CG in the flat.

We can still save the season if they have enough guts tobench Baker. I don’t mind losing while developing Daniels but every game Baker loses is a wasted game. Stop blaming the OC. He’s trying to call the only pass plays that Baker can complete. Behind the line of scrimmage. Don’t believe me, look at the tape. I have seen Daniels consistently complete those long balls Baker missed yesterday including the last pass to Mek in the end zone. Easy pro qb completion.

Also, we’re not “trolls” or “haters” just realist who could see this same BS since Brady’s only losing season. Crazier things have happened but I don’t see this team getting a win until week 8 vs Atl.

Correct, your QBs limitations as the primary ball handler limits the capability of the offense, plain & simple.

We might have toreplace Anzalone with Voss. He can’t cover but at least he can tackle when he takes the right angle. Anzalone can’t seem to do either of the three.
