Rueben Bain Using Luke Goedeke As A Sounding Board

This is giving Joe flashbacks to 2020 when the Bucs drafted Tristan Wirfs.
When the Bucs drafted Wirfs, the Bucs knew they had a team that could compete for a Super Bowl. But those dreams were nothing if Tom Brady, who was anything but mobile, was lying on the ground or worse: on crutches.
So with the Bucs scheduled to kick off the season against the slimy Saints, Wirfs was going to have to stop mouthy Cam Jordan.
The Bucs went to Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett and told them to give Wirfs all they had in practice. Use every tool in their toolbox.
The Bucs had just a few weeks to get Wirfs up to speed as there were no worthless preseason games that summer.
So how did Wirfs do in his first at-bat against Jordan? Well, Jordan didn’t do a damn thing that game. It was a sign of things to come.
Joe senses the same thing happening this summer with Rueben Bain. The Miami Mauler is coming in with unreal hype. And Bain, who is at left outside linebacker, goes against Bucs right tackle Luke Goedeke.
Bain said yesterday that he and Goedeke have developed a bond. Goedeke is always helping him, he said, even willing to review technique on the team’s Edge tablets during practice.
And Bain is very appreciative of Goedeke.
“Oh yeah, Luke [Goedeke], I go against Luke every day – I feel like we battle each and every day,” Bain said yesterday after Bucs practice. “He gets the best of me, and I get to grow from that. I get to learn and experience it from one of the best in the game right now, and I don’t take that for granted at all.
“I’m coming each and every day trying to get better anytime I can, and asking him for pointers, see what I’m giving away. [For example], today, as soon as I get off the field, I’m grabbing the [Edge], running over to him, see what he sees, and go back to YaYa [Diaby], talk it all up and try to grow from that every time.”
Bain is a pretty savvy guy and Joe thinks it’s cool he is leaning on both Goedeke and YaYa to get better.
If Bain can have the same success that Wirfs had as a rookie, man, that would be some kind of impact.

Makes me really excited for September, but I don’t want to see him in August. We already know he is going to make the team. I don’t even mind it guys like Words and Via barely practice in camp, much less don’t play in any games in August. Not even one play.

This is good for all parties, but especially good for Bain. Not just working against a guy of Goedekes’ caliber, but testing out his rush plan and using the moves in his bag to gauge how they translate in real-time. Sounds like what we’ve been hearing about Bain, even before we drafted him.

Despite the hype and potential, Bain will still be a rookie. Every rookie deserves fan support the first and even second year. Still burns me, how posters on this site were ragging Luke as Godonkey and Cody a ragdoll their first year.

Joe is SO HYPING BAIN that if he doesn’t get 14 sacks, well, the way Joe is writing, he should get 20.

Smart kid with high football IQ.
I like the fact that he’s so focused on getting better, doesn’t screw around in practice a single bit. The internal motivation he has shows a ton of maturity.
I honestly look forward to the d line as a whole. Having Muhammad and Walker in the mix will be great. Then we have Robinson as well. I hope Capehart ends up being a steal.

Mental maturity, certainly. The smart kid also watches to see what mistakes other people make and make sure not to do those things, either. Learn from yourself, learn from others.

It’s too bad he can’t go against Wirfs in practice. Goedke is good, but Bain getting schooled by Tristan would be a total contrast in learning. Between the two of them it’d be a pass rushing education.

I like it but I’d like even better if Bain was going against Wirfs.
