Colin Cowherd: Paying Baker Mayfield = No Super Bowl

August 4th, 2026

Too much money.

Joe’s not much of a Colin Cowherd guy. Joe cannot embrace a guy who regularly brags how he’s not interested in being accurate. He’s only interested in being interesting.

Accuracy is interesting. So why should Joe take anything that comes out of the guy’s mouth seriously if he doesn’t care about it?

For the longest time, Cowherd was a full-blown Mayfield hater. He claims in the video below he likes Mayfield. Joe’s dubious.

But when a guy has a good point, even if Joe doesn’t care for the guy, Joe has to give him props.

Cowherd claims that, short of elite quarterbacks like Pat Mahomes, teams with expensive quarterbacks cannot win Super Bowls because the quarterback’s contract eats up too much salary cap.

Cowherd cited Joe Burrow, who Cowherd thinks may be the best quarterback in the NFL. Burrow’s contract is massive and he doesn’t have the talent around him to return to the Super Bowl. Cowherd noted 7 of the 8 top quarterback cap hits last year missed the playoffs.

And if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht caves to Mayfield’s contract demands, Cowherd doesn’t believe the Bucs will afford enough talent for Mayfield to win. He also suspects the Bucs didn’t offer Mayfield a contract through 2029 because the Bucs knew Mayfield would erupt and try to take out his frustration on NFL defenses.

Joe wants to believe the two-year extension offered Mayfield was a ruse to light a fire under him, but Joe also believes this Mayfield-against-the-world narrative is overplayed.

If the peeved-Mayfield-kills-teams line was really true, Licht would hire neighborhood kids to wear gear of the Bucs’ next opponents and have the kids throw rocks at Mayfield’s house each week or egg his car.

Or, Licht would have the Bucs’ social media team cook up AI-generated bot videos weekly of opposing players running smack on Mayfield.

Even better: Licht could pay Dave Portnoy to run fake-news articles of coaches sh!t-talking Mayfield on Portnoy’s Barstool Sports site.

  1. Beeej Says:

He’s wrong about a great many other things too–case in point–throughout the Superbowl season, he kept telling us how badly Brady was washed

  2. Razorramone Says:

He had a radio show with Hubert Mizell here once upon a time. The take is a valid one though, gotta have enough cash to spread around to create a balanced team. Tricky.

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Doesn’t matter if this guy Cowherd hates Mayfield, he makes a valid point, “Cowherd claims that, short of elite quarterbacks like Pat Mahomes, teams with expensive quarterbacks cannot win Super Bowls because the quarterback’s contract eats up too much of the salary cap.”

Mayfield isn’t Patrick Mahomes nor is he Tom Brady; therefore, it would be too high of a risk to sign Mayfield to a contract that eats up a large portion of your salary cap. Licht and Glazer needs to wait till the end of the season before signing Mayfield.

  4. TampaLondonSully Says:

Why does everyone forget about the 35m dead cap hit from Brady in 2023. Baker has already played with 42m of house money, he just got 7m of it…

  5. can-we-get-rid-of-licht-please Says:

the offensive payroll is reportedly the second highest in the league after the Rams – the line and receivers are very good when healthy as is Mayfield – if the Bucs put up 30 points a game this season everyone should be happy and new contracts going forward will be warranted – too many contract mistakes (Watson, Tagovailoa, Wilson) to risk the same with Mayfield – or Vea – a lot of the JBF fanbase is clamoring to reward PAST performance (pay the man!) rather than future performance – that is a sentimental nostalgic viewpoint that does not win championships

  6. slingbackpat Says:

@beej< are you sure? Cowherd was always a Brady fan.

  7. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Sure, let’s just tag him next year for an $80 million dollar cap hit.

Seriously, take feelings and opinions about Baker out of it. If you were in his position, why would you take a two year deal when all you have to say is fine, tag me for two years and then I am a free agent?

  8. Bee Says:

This is why the Bucs will draft a QB next season more than likely. It doesn’t matter if the Glazers dont want to. They have no choice. You either overpay a vet or reasonably pay a rook.

The new era is almost here.

  9. Ljsolutions Says:

why have a franchise quarterback if your headed into a rebuild after this year. By the time the team reloads you have an old quarterback. It’s not about Mayfield it’s about what’s best for the team.

  10. Marky mark Says:

I always find it interesting that so called fans such as Bee want to lose on purpose for some theoretical bright future. How is Nashville working out with it’s bro right future? Meanwhile v the coach they fired took his team to the Superbowl.

  11. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Bee, you may be correct. But I can’t stand this myth about a plan for winning is get a qb on a rookie deal, then build the rest of the team. There are two big problems with that:

    * It’s never gotten anyone a ring. And if I missed one, it had to be Mahomes. So that plan doesn’t work without drafting the best qb in the league. Good luck

    * By year three you have to decide if you are giving him the bag. Goodbye nice team you built.

  12. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

Getting harder to find things to write about.
Joe will always write about what Joe finds interesting. And Joe suggests you not read what you don’t find interesting.–Joe

  13. Marine Buc Says:

Can Baker take us to a Super Bowl?

    Sure.

If Sam Darnold can do it… Baker probably can.

However – for Baker to succeed at this level he will need a much stronger supporting cast.

If a mediocre QB is gobbling up 15% or more of the salary cap it makes it more difficult to afford and build that needed “supporting cast”…

    It’s simple economics folks.

  14. Bojim Says:

Still can’t get my arms around not taking the 100 million. Jeez. Must be nice.

  15. doolnutts Says:

    Drunk Bucs Fan:

This is why facts matter the franchise tag for QB’s will “only be” 47 million. It’s actually a very good option for us.

Baker has been productive, BUT we are an average football team historically with him as QB. Now its not on him that is not my point here. My point is we have a star-studded offense right nwo what happens when you overpay at QB? The weapons will start to be lost. I dont know how that improves the football team but that’s basically what some of you are saying.

The true franchise QB’s like a Mahomes, can get by with almost no one at QB thats why they get the big bucks.

  16. Bee Says:

    Drunk Bucs Fan

You’re making sense. My point is 2 things, get a younger, more talented QB and get him at a reasonable salary. No guarantees obviously but you have to try due to the upcoming supposed talent in the draft next year. For me, I’m not expecting deep playoffs or superbowls from a young QB, just steady improvement season to season.

Also, the 3 year scenario you mentioned is true for all players. Look what happened to AWJ after his record breaking contact. Which I think he got his 3rd year. Life, and business is a dice roll.

  17. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Bojim, that’s because you are thinking about the money like I assume almost everyone commenting here does, which is in terms of 98% of the population and our general place in the economy.

A way to understand is to think about your job (about to do a lot of generalizing):

You have a job that 10 other people do at the same company
Boss says you are everything they hoped for and more when they hired you
People at your level get 100,000 and four weeks vacation at their eval.
You are offered 90,000 and 2 weeks vacation.

Now, can you be overestimating your value? Absolutely, and so could Baker. But what you would feel here is an explanation of why Baker feels a certain way right now. A lot of people would say “Man, 90k and 2 weeks vacation sounds great. I can’t understand why he’s mad”

  18. KABucs Says:

Wonder how Sam Darnold is liking his $33.5M?
    He’s a super bowl winner.

  19. Kenton Smith Says:

Tampa and Mayfield came to a verbal agreement on the first day of legal “tampering” which is 2 days before he could sign in free agency. Usually around the 10th of March.

He’s not signing this year. What if he has a great year? Seven months from now the Jets could sign him for 300 million guaranteed dollars for 5 years of service. He’d be the toast of New York City. That’s playing football and hardball at the same time. Gotta love it, cause you never know.

My Titleist forged irons are cleaned and I’m checking out for a few weeks. I hope our offensive line and our defensive line stay healthy leading into this season. And our special teams start clicking. This team might win 15 games this year. And I might make more pars than bogeys this trip. I can see it happening. And that’s all that counts.

  20. Fanofdabucs Says:

    Drunk says:

Why not just let them tag you then be one a FA?

Sounds good in theory..but that gives you zero security against injury. If Baker gets seriously injured this season, then there is no chance the use the tag or rush to sign him longterm.

Baker (and all players) want as many years of guaranteed money as possible to protect them.

I don’t disagree with Cowherd. That’s why JL is playing thos correctly. Offer Baker a deal they can live with and still have enough money to keep the roster up. But Baker declined and now it’s prove it time or Baker. Proce you deserve to be a top paid QB

  21. Beeej Says:

    slingbackpat Says:

@beej< are you sure? Cowherd was always a Brady fan"

    Oh yeah, I remember this

  22. BucsFan81 Says:

Defense wins championships. It has always been that way and still is. Look at Seattle defense last year. You can win a Super Bowl with an average QB game manager as long as you have a good defense. The trenches is where it’s at. I would be building my team with the best defensive and offensive lines if I was an NFL GM.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

Jalen Hurts and Burrow both made it to the SB on their rookie deals…and there’s examples of other QB making it to…Eli, Big Ben, Flacco, Russell Wilson, Mahomes…all these QB made it to the SB on their rookie deal….it can be done

baker is not a franchise QB…and as mentioned above, the whole “baker plays well pissed, or with his back against the wall” is BS!!!…His back was against the wall last year and he choked…

Bucs are doing the right thing…baker needs to grow up and shut his mouth

    GO BUCS!!!!

  24. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

But Fanofdabucs have you noticed (and I don’t think I missed it) with all this “2 years 50 million per” talk, I have yet to hear how much is guaranteed in that offer. That could easily be a sticking point

  25. johnnythemoon Says:

Said it all along you can not over pay a guy that is 10-15 rank of qbs..He is a .500 QB who is always near the top in turnovers and fumbles…I like him but 50mill a year is more than generous at 31years old and wreckless play.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    @ 813

“baker is not a franchise QB…and as mentioned above, the whole “baker plays well pissed, or with his back against the wall” is BS!!!”

Do you mean to tell me that “moxie” is not as important as some of these Baker Boyz believe it is?

    That’s blasphemy my friend!!!!

  27. CosmoKramer Says:

Cowherd is correct with his assessment. Simple math tells the truth.

My only argument is that any team, no matter how talented the roster, will never see the SB with Todd Bowles as the HC\DC.

Brady was able to win here because he wasn’t greedy and knew what it took to gather the right players around him.

He sacrificed a ton of money in pursuit of the ultimate prize. SB titles.

Baker is more concerned with his own bag than he is having talent around him.

    Bowles + Baker = Mediocrity

  28. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Cosmo

“Brady was able to win here because he wasn’t greedy and knew what it took to gather the right players around him.”

    Bingo!

  29. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Can’t help but think the bank account of the “at the time” Mrs. Brady helps one be not as greedy

  30. Optimistic Says:

With the top 5 salary cap players this season (Baker, Wirfs, Godwin, Winfield and Vea) using up 52% of this years’ salary cap, that only leaves 48% for the rest of the top 51. That results in not being able to pick up quality backups. Lose a starter or 2 on the offensive line and things go downhill real fast.

  31. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Had to do a little research (Google LOL) and found that Franchise tag contracts are fully guaranteed.

So be Baker. I can be tagged twice. First one is fully guaranteed at around 47-50 million.
Second tag is more, but gambling I don’t get injured in 2027. Sign the 2nd tag, another 50 million. Then I am a free agent.

    Or

Sign a 2 year deal for whatever guaranteed money they are offering (does anyone think all 100 million was guaranteed?) and then they can tag me after that.

I hope nobody gets the wrong idea. I like Baker but don’t think he is worth sone 5 year, market setti g mega deal. Not even close. Just saying other than the injury gamble signing the Bucs 2 year deal makes no financial sense.

  32. can-we-get-rid-of-licht-please Says:

@Drunk Bucs – you should read today’s NFL.com item about Bryce Young’s extension – he is in his 4th year with a 5th option but the Panthers are not extending him because “his ceiling is currently unknown” – The Falcons got 2 years out of a 4-year contract with Cousins – Tyler Shough is in his second year but nobody is talking about a longer contract – the lesson is to be cautious with extensions

  33. Bucsministerfuller Says:

What is the alternative to Baker Mayfield for the Buccaneers?

  34. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Eat the $30M and drafting a rookie has got to be door #2/#3 to this franchise. It’s a real possibility after this season, which kind of hinges on how alot of different things go this season.

This team is as plug n play as it was in 2023. Sure, we might not have Mike, but we aren’t 1 year in to rebuilding our OL or waiting for Ryan Jensen to come back either.

Collectively more talented(and younger) in the WR room then we were in 2023. We’ll have at least 4 on rookie deals next year.

Kenny G is here one more year and so is Bucky, the only realistic guy we’ll have to replace in the RB room is Tucker.

Might have to replace Bredeson, but could keep Mauch. OT we’re set, Center is the same.

When you guys say “rebuild” what do you mean, because it’s not like we’re void of talent to the point a prospective QB couldn’t come in with a much straighter learning curve and enough talent to succeed with.

Drafting a QB into a “rebuild” is Cam Ward going to Tennessee last year. Look around the league, if you think for one second ownerhsip doesn’t see what their teams are getting from young QBs like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Bo Nix & Jaden Daniels if they bounce back to their ideal levels of play this.

You guys aren’t talking about that because some can’t see the Bucs without Baker, but I’m pretty sure the front office is not only looking at that as a feasible option, but the least expensive option especially if they’re in a position at the end of ’26 to justifiably consider it.

All this rebuild talk, as if that hasn’t been happening in front of our eyes since 2021-’22. I think we take for granted what the term means relative to what we have and part of that plays into the perception some fans have of the team.

Even now, our draft needs in a way too early to tell way isn’t some long list of holes on our roster. I’d even argue we’re more in a position to enhance/stack talent that can contribute at given position than looking for players we need to start outright.

  35. zzbucs Says:

I don’t like Cowherd either, but doesn’t mean he is wrong…..Even more, I think he is right

  36. Steve V Says:

Brady and Evans are my heroes! I literally haven’t slept since Brady left and when Evans left I had to get therapy! Im just a football train wreck!

  37. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    @can-we,

And that’s the rub. Door number 1 (Good qb of known quality) or Door number 2 (rolling the dice with a new direction).

I for one thought the Tua and Kyler deals were ridiculous. That’s why even though I am a Baker fan I’m not settling my keyboard on fire defending him from people that want to move on.

We could be seeing a situation where it’s not making a lot of sense either way for the player and team both. Very easy to see both sides.

    _________________________

Okay… but who? Because if you’re moving on from Baker, you ostensibly want someone who’s better. Baker’s consistently top 12-14 in QBR. He’s outperforming Mahomes in several stat lines over the past 3 years. You ostensibly want to upgrade Baker if you;re moving on from him, so who are you going to get?

What college player is going to be top 10 in QBR and outshine Mahomes in even one stat line, much less three or four?

  40. Tampa2ATL Says:

If Jason Licht posts a wanted ad on this here JBF site, I’m certain he will have plenty of volunteers show up with their own eggs, thus saving some Pennie’s having to hire kids.

BuccoMarty Says: Okay… but who? Because if you’re moving on from Baker, you ostensibly want someone who’s better.
    **********************************************************

this is where folks get it twisted….you want the TEAM to be better…the rookie QB just has to be competent….

    think Jalen Hurts…

kid was a 2nd round pick…eagles had a solid team around him and they continued to make the team great around him….thats is what translated into 2 SB appearances and 1 Ring

    GO BUCS!!!!

  43. BakerFan Says:

Hate to break it to you guys but Mahomes (look at how Chiefs are declining the last 2 years because of talent drain, I watch them every week), Allen, Prescott and Jackson (all have never won a Super Bowl or even been to one) and Burrows ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY, but if you look at just sheer #’s Mayfield has been every bit as good as those mention. So of course he wants paid and of course the Bucs don’t want to pay it.

I really think that if Bucs came in and said you are our QB for the next 5 years but we need to have that salary manageable to build around you, Mayfield would of done it. But 2 years is not committing to a QB or trying to build around him for a good run.

    Just my two cents worth.

  44. Badbucs Says:

    @WBL
“Eat the $30M and drafting a rookie has got to be door #2/#3 to this franchise.”

No. It’s door number 1. Baker will not be back. They won’t take an 80 mil cap hit in ’27 and they won’t sign him long term next season @55 mil/per for 3yrs +. This has already been decided I’m sure. They tried the somewhat lowball tactic for short term, but Baker wouldn’t bite. It was seemingly a reasonable offer (we have no clue of the actual terms), but Baker wanted more years. Deal made sense from the Buc’s perspective.

They will draft a QB with the #1 and probably try to pick up a bridge QB. Pickings for the bridge guy could be grim. Hard to tell what the coaching scenario will be until the season plays out. Shiny new QB plus shiny new coach? Go Bucs!

  45. Oscar Says:

WBL, great assessment of where the team stands right now talent wise. Even the defense is potentially on the verge of a transformation depending on the coaching. That’s why we should go all in right now!

  46. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day, and I believe Cowherd IS correct in this instance.

That said, if the Bucs don’t keep Baker, what alternatives are there?

  47. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

The alternative would have to be a rookie. There is no veteran the Bucs could obtain that would be an upgrade.

  48. Critmark Says:

While I understand the underlying premise, you also need to look at how THIS TEAM deploys resources. Having spent less money on a QB over the past few years with Baker, has the GM built a top 5 or top 10 team. That is a resounding NO. Going in to this season, the roster is ranked 18th.

The #1 team, the Rams, have paid Stafford MUCH more than Baker, and still put together a top roster. The same can be said for most of the top teams. So maybe it doesn’t matter how much you do or don’t pay a QB, it’s more about what you do with the rest of the cap. In the case of Licht, not much.

And finally, for the record, I think they should trade both Baker and VV now. Clearly the Bucs are intent on a reset. Both players will just be a year older and one injury away from having no value. And since you can’t tag both of them, one will walk next year for nothing.

  49. Bee Says:

When I say rebuild i mean first and foremost 2 things:

Getting a HC with a specific identity for the offense and defense plus getting a GM talented enough to find the right players for the system. The Bucs have to build a foundation with a clear vision of how the offense and defense should look and play. And when that doesn’t work, adjust quickly.

Looking at this roster, where are the playmakers? Where are the players that you can count on every game?

This roster isn’t that great. During the last 9 games of 2025 who flashed? Whos the player with athleticism and dertermination that made plays down the stretch?

The whole roster has tons of question marks. Is it bad coaching or bad players? I think its both but with that being said the coaches aren’t getting the most out of the players.

  50. Mobucs Says:

Cowherd has embraced almost every possible attitude toward Baker –trying to be interesting, no doubt– so one of them is probably accurate. Nor should we be surprised that someone, somewhere believes that any one of them is right. The hypothesis that not apportioning your salary costs effectively is probably true, but exactly what that is, especially in a directly competitive enterprise, is a lot less certain. You can point to teams with expensive quarterbacks that have not won Super Bowls, but there are a lot of teams with cheap quarterbacks that have not done it. And if you have ten “elite” quarterbacks playing contemporaneously, they can’t all go. assuming that is your criterion for success.

  51. Lightningvinny1 Says:

You all better be happy and not be critical of Geno as our QB 2027-2029,, you will have earned him and you should get a pretty good bargain for him , 3 years 99 mill or less ,, I’ll be rooting Baker on in Houston orrrrrrr pay Baker 50/4

  52. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They really wanted to light a fire under him they should’ve drafted a qb with their 1st pick and in one season that pick would see what to do and not to do watching Mayfield play. Then again they might be giving the Bowles replacement a chance to see what he has or doesn’t have in Mayfield then maybe draft his replacement in 2027

  53. Steve V Says:

Maye ,Daniel’s and Nix all injured, teams fell apart ..

  54. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Just stop it Moisty Boyy Baker Fan. Mahomes has been to 5 S U P E R B O W L S AND WON 3. One of those wins KC as a whole didn’t have a good record but because of Mahomes and Reid’s coaching staff they still won. Forget all his stats they mean nothing, Mayfield has never sniffed a Super Bowl nor be as good as any of the top qbs let alone Mahomes. Mayfield has none of Mahomes qualities and even as important is his coaching staff

  55. Steve V Says:

    Williams with 27 td 7 picks..Mayfield 26 tds 11 picks..Chi town didn’t have the injuries tampa did

  56. Stpetematt Says:

The Bucs are potentially ready to win now, and signing Baker to a 4 year deal (including this one) makes the most sense. There’s far less holes on this team than people think. We could win now or in a year or two become very strong. Baker doesn’t use up much of the cap and the percentage will drop rapidly. It’s big money but not huge money. Huge money is what franchise QB contracts will look like in the next couple/few years. But the cap keeps climbing and balancing it out.

  57. MelvinJunior Says:

I 💯 totally agree with Colin here, BUT how could anyone even know about Burrow… Hell, is he EVER healthy!? I know a lot of that does go into them not having a good enough O-Line to protect him, BUT STILL. Anyway, that’s exactly why I’ve been saying all along to BUILD. THE. ROSTER. FIRST. And, just plug-and-play QB’s until you find the right/perfect ‘fit’ with your young, aggressive, modern day, ‘play-caller’ Head Coach. Cause, 90% of the QB’s in the league, CANNOT ‘win’ on THEIR OWN. But, a good portion of them CAN, with a LOADED and STACKED ROSTER/Offense.

  58. MelvinJunior Says:

It’s the best way to guarantee LONGTERM, sustained success in the league today! Because, you are NOT completely invested ‘all-in’ on just ONE-Position, or any one SINGLE-Player. Injuries play SUCH a huge part. Just look at what happens almost EVERY single-time, a team loses their ‘high-dollar’ QB. They’re DONE. But, you can overcome ‘injuries’ at other positions, a whole helluva lot easier. Even, at ‘multiple’ other positions. Especially, when you have THE COACH.

  59. Mike C Says:

IF mayflower won a playoff game and didn’t crap the bed at the end of the season he would already have the contract he wanted.

  60. MelvinJunior Says:

There ya go now, @ Stpetematt – You’re at a 3-YEAR DEAL, now!!!! That’s coming a loooong ways from your ‘original’ 5-YEARS (6-total). I applaud you. Bravo. Bravo.

  61. Larrd Says:

Burrow is a bad example as his top two receivers are also paid a ton. The Bengals put all their money in the same basket.

I would guess Stafford and Myles Garrett both make a ton, but the Rams are Super Bowl favorites. The money is better distributed there.

  62. Critmark Says:

    MelvinJunior Says:
It’s the best way to guarantee LONGTERM, sustained success in the league today! Because, you are NOT completely invested ‘all-in’ on just ONE-Position, or any one SINGLE-Player.

Excellent point BUT, the Bucs have enjoyed the benefits of a below market expense for a QB since Baker got here. Has the current leadership built a top roster outside of the QB position with those extra $$ available? I don’t think so, nor does the ESPN roster rankings, with the Bucs in the bottom half of the league.

Sound premise in the hands of a GM & HC that can build and lead a roster of top talent. I simply don’t believe the CURRENT Bucs leadership can do that, any QB notwithstanding.

  63. MelvinJunior Says:

@ StPeteMatt – I’m just sayin, since you are now exactly, where “I” was from the very beginning… Though, definitely NOT on the money part of the equation (especially with the guarantees). You still have quite a ways to go there.

ALSO, it is very refreshing to have noticed that YOU are using MY “Salary Cap is Rising” argument/line… Since, you never even ONCE acknowledged that FACT last year, when I only stated it DOZENS of times. Though, you do NOW, but only in a ‘disingenuous’ way, in order to push your one-sided agenda.

You CAN’T just completely ignore such a FACT only for it DESTROYING your own entire, very ‘thin’ argument last year… And, THEN try to use it as it being the ‘end all-be all’ point of YOUR argument NOW. Because, that is BS. It’s being entirely ‘disingenuous’ at the BEST.

  64. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Critmark – EXACTLY. My entire point, and mindset, with my EVERY post during the past YEAR, since Coen.

  65. Madvocate Says:

Bucs paid Brady 12.6 % of the cap their Superbowl year. Mahomes is the only Superbowl winning QB this century to take a larger percentage. Who thinks Mayfield is as good as Mahomes was in 22 and 23? His pay was 16 and 17 percent of the cap. 50 million a year in 2026 is 16.2 percent of the cap. He apparently wants more than that.

  66. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Kenton Smith Says: “Tampa and Mayfield came to a verbal agreement on the first day of legal “tampering” which is 2 days before he could sign in free agency. Usually around the 10th of March.”

Yeah, but the Cousins-ATL Deal was a DONE DEAL. It was already known ‘behind the scenes’ at the time, that ATL had already reached an agreement with Kirk Cousins. Then, ol’ Cuz screwed up and LMAO disclosed all this to THE WORLD, during his own “welcome” press conference LoL. Now, THIS was obviously a PROBLEM. A HUGE PROBLEM. One, large enough, that it ended up costing them a DRAFT-PICK, and a whole lot of MONEY in fines, & etc. The BUCS were Baker’s very LAST SHOT. Once AGAIN, they saved him and bailed him out. Seems-like, HE is very ‘appreciative’ of them.
