Bucs Sign Quarterback Easton Stick

The Bucs have signed an experienced quarterback, though plenty of fans won’t like the quality of that experience.
Easton Stick, who turns 31 in September, was signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad. He was a Chargers backup for six seasons.
Stick was a Chargers fifth-round in 2019.
Joe is impressed that ex-QB Jim Harbaugh took over the team in 2024 and stuck with Stick as a backup to Justin Herbert. However, Stick was a free agent in 2025 and signed with the Falcons and landed on their practice squad. He was later promoted to the active roster.
Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson was his playcaller in Atlanta.
Stick was with the Colts in training camp this summer but got cut. He’s winless in four career starts, all in 2023.
Don’t ask Joe how Stick looks in practice because the bulk of each practice is closed to media for the rest of the 2026 season, unless Todd Bowles changes his mind and allows media to watch.
Fun fact: Stick was a teammate of Cody Mauch at North Dakota State University.

Easton Stick is a good start. See if he’s worth keeping, and ifnot, move on and sign another. Keep going until you find one.

So I only watched like 5 mins of highlights on the guy… but here’s my authoritative take-it-to-the-bank 100% lock big-time ring-of-certainty take.
– He’s got a better arm than Browning. Nothing impressive, but has the ability to throw with NFL velocity, which is a must in my book.
– Seems like a bit of a gunslinger, was making some high risk throws from what I saw, which include a pretty bad INT, but a couple of nice deep throws as well.
Well, that’s all I really took from what I saw. He didn’t run or move in the pocket much, so not sure how mobile he is.
I wonder if Browning signs with the Bengals PS – if he’s not back in Tampa, I assume that’s his game plan, and I assume the Bucs knew this when they cut him.

I’d certainly sign him to the PS, and probably be willing to use a roster spot and drop one of the 20 different lineman we have to do so. Although the Cowboys cutting him makes me wonder what they know — or perhaps they’re just morons and made a bad move.

I’d be more comfortable if our backup(s) was/were NFL veterans that have started games. Right now we have a young, athletic but inexperienced QB and a guy who seems to be a career backup. If Baker gets hurt not much to fall back on.
That said, if Baker gets hurt the season is probably over.

Mr. Stick has started 4 games in the NFL, and while losing an exciting 13-12 game to Blaine Gabbert with the Chiefs, he did clearly outplay the Super Bowl champ, racking up a very impressive 68.7 QBR vs Blaine’s 52.3.

Uh oh, are the Baker Boi(s) now going to make Mr. Stick their newest target of hate? Or do you feel pretty confident that Mayfield is better than he is? Because you seem very insecure when it comes to Daniels.

Not bad. He didn’t win but he took care of the ball (3 TD/1 INT.) I wanted Josh Johnson. He was the same price as Browning, played lights out in preseason, has many starts over many years under his belt and could offer a peak inside the offense of the Bucs’ week 1 opponent.
I don’t think it’s going to matter who QB #2 is. I don’t see Mayfield coming off the field for anything. If he does have his season ended somehow, I want to see Daniels. Jared Goff took a whole 11 snaps from under center as the starter his rookie year in LA and fared alright and he doesn’t have Daniels’ movement skills. The offense has enough weapons that any rookie has a shot to succeed.

Right DLarue? Mine was going to more PG-13: If I had to mandatorily create my own player in order play the Bucs in Madden as a child I would accept whatever mediocre ratings the game offered me and just name him Easton Stick.

Now the QB room is moving in the right direction..The team now has a veteran guy who worked with Zac Richardson in Atlanta..He doesn’t have to be a hero, he just needs to be able to run and execute plays in the Richardson playbook if Mayfield is injured..
Let all those playmakers on the roster do the work…

I was looking for notes from Cardinals blogs and fans about SMB, just to see what they had to say about him, if he looked OK in the preseason, etc. MAN, no one gives a care about the stupid Cardinals. There is nothing out there of note, no fan interest, no sites with detailed info. As Bucs fans, we’re spolided in terms of coverage – even when the Bucs were awful forever, there was always plenty of news about them. But literally no one cares about the dumb Cardinals, so I didn’t learn anything about how SMB played this preseason (and he did play in a game).

Easton Stick is 0–4 as a starter, so apparently the Bucs wanted experience without all the distracting success. Somewhere Kyle Trask just saw “Easton Stick” on the transaction wire and thought, You have GOT to be sh-tting me. Tampa’s quarterback evaluation process has apparently reached the “f-ck it, this guy already knows Zac” phase.

Robinson went out and picked up a plain, tasteless bowl of oatmeal in QB Easton Stick. Not because he thinks oatmeal is any good, but because it’s predictable and nothing to worry about.
That’s what choosing QB3 is mostly about in the NFL. You’re happiest if you don’t have to think about or use it.
I hope this is the last time we hear about Stick this year.

Could be a shaving cream or a deodorant.
Or a brand new brand of beef jerky. Maybe brisket beef jerky.
Could be auto air freshener brand, or a scent.
Could be shoe cleaner.
Hockey stick/apparel brand.
It could be a cool name for a bar or a chain of arcades.

Not a bad pick for the PS. I would be angry if we had actually wasted an active roster spot for him. He’s just a practice arm and another playbook QB coach to help Baker & Daniels.

come to think of it, maybe they didn’t want a guy to press on daniels too much….because there is better out there…they wanted a blend-able dude who knows the z-rob offense…
like what if young will levis just needs a fresh start and becomes a sam darnold type success down the line…he has many years ahead of him, unless he’s a true busteroonie…
