Practice Squad Announced By Bucs

Pseudo-Bucs named.
Now before Joe gets rolling here, this list was released before it was learned the Bucs signed Sean Murphy-Bunting to the practice squad.
Joe knows there are some roster junkies out there and Joe knows some publications cover the practice squad as much if not more than the real Bucs team.
Joe’s much more focused on guys who get on the field and who impact Sundays and Mondays and the occasional Saturday and Thursday).
The Bucs released the roster of the practice squad and many were in Bucs training camp this summer.

Joe explained in the very first paragraph this list was released before SMB was signed. And the Bucs haven’t put out anything official on SMB yet (even though Jeremy Fowler reported it). Or who gets bounced to make room for SMB.

I never understand why we sign the same guys that can’t make the 53 man roster vs picking up cut players from other teams with experience . We sign are same udfa.. I have to believe most of the guys we sign are not better than what’s out there .

Roster looks pretty good if we stay healthy. SMB was a good signing – good call Joes!
Yes we could use better Oline and CB depth (or a starter better yet) but I’m pleased with our team. I’m not a Bowles supporter but he’s our coach so let’s roll! What I don’t want to see is a 500 record, one and done in the playoffs (or worse), and another year of Bowles.
Either kick a$$ or let’s move on.

Nobody needs to get bounced to make room for SMB. The Bucs had one open practice squad spot which they’re using for him.

so cool SMB is back in the building…!
i know little on stick, but good job bringing a z-rob familiar guy into the room…i mentioned somewhere i had hoped for a guy with z-rob experience, if browning didn’t return to the PS…so this seems good, for what it is…it also makes you think they might have more faith in daniels at #2 than the common fan might think…
the pyburn watch is on and will most likely continue all season…dang, he went to kc…he’s probably gonna get some run over there too…he just seemed so focused and determined – that’s what made me think to keep him…but the team watched him in camp and should be able to better access if he truly has nfl worthy physical tools…i guess they thought he didn’t…we will watch and see…i will most certainly start checking the kc defensive box score week to week, early on, to see if he’s logging stats…
otherwise the PS looks good, and as expected with a big group of the guys…
just listened to the podcast…good stuff!…heard ira drop us down to 8-9 from his orig 9-8 win prediction…i get it…the jacksonville game brought us waaay down to earth and was a real barometer vs a quality team – even if only in pre-season…yet i will still stick with my orig prediction of 9-8……10 is possible…with an absolute absolute ceiling of 11…and a floor of 7 wins…however if injuries take a huge toll, 6 could be the absolute floor

Maybe because the guys you think MIGHT be better really aren’t or they aren’t better enough to justify their contracts. There’s a reason they didn’t make the team they were with’s 53 man roster.
Other than the 2020 season, when everybody wanted to come play for the Bucs because of Tom Brady, can you name me any veteran the Bucs have signed since then that was worth even half of what the Bucs paid him?

I am perplexed. I keep reading that Bowles’ “system” doesn’t work and is a team weakness. Now I read praise for signing a DB whose biggest asset is familiarity with that system. No doubt the sources of these two judgments are different, but there’s cognitive dissonance here.

It sticks out pyburn got 4 sacks in preseason, but I have to wonder how useful stats in preseason games even are, especially without context. I mean Bain and walker were supposedly having great camps and I don’t remember them doing anything crazy in preseason… Pyburn i don’t remember hearing much about in camp, but racks up sacks at end of games. I’d have to leave it to the coaches that see them in practice every day. Be interesting to see how pyburn develops though

A good mix of prospects with a sprinkling of players who can be trusted to play if called upon, especially if Murphy-Bunting is included. I bet he’s on the active roster soon.

As far as knowing the system, I can stand 12 yards off the receiver and watch him run by, like Joe when the server brings the tab at Hooters.😁 I can also throw out an arm to graze him, in the true Bowles tackling form.

Pyburn was a UDFA for a reason. Nobody wanted him. This is what one analyst wrote about him and his draft prospects:
“Pyburn is a muscular outside linebacker with short arms and unremarkable athleticism. He’s been a non-factor as a pass rusher during his career, but he gets after it as a run defender. Pyburn has some heat in his hands, jarring blockers and playing off of them to make tackles in his vicinity, but his lack of length will make it tougher to set edges against longer NFL tackles. As a backup with a lack of rush and cover talent, special teams will need to become his money-maker to stay in the league.”
Pyburn had 52 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks during 12 appearances at LSU in 2025. Not exactly eye opening numbers but not terrible, either. He seems to be far more like a Kenny Britt than the Micah Parsons far too many here are making him out to be.
Seems as if the competition he faced in college was better than what he went up against when facing teams’ 3rd and 4th team roster cuts.

@ Billlbuc – Yep. It’s all the same CRAP. Rinse & Repeat. All over again, & again, and again, & again… It’s because, THEY don’t know what the hell they’re doing. It’s about COMFORT. And, you’ve got the same group of fans here (obviously from Stockholm), who continuously praise EVERY move this current regime makes… No matter what. And, at ALL cost. Unless, it is for NOT re-signing their favorite (washed up (&/or) ‘expensive’ aging) players. Seriously, you have them looking at THAT list of players, and then literally saying, that a “GREAT” group of players. We just draft our same 6 or 7 guys per year, and stick with them until eternity. NEVER moving ANYONE for future Draft Capital. NEVER a Trade. NO ANYTHING. We’re content with just keeping them around, and never getting anything in return. It’s just a very stale, mediocre group, who is LOST in this new-age NFL.

How is Culp still eligible for the practice squad? I have nothing against Culp and I’m glad they can still keep him around – but I have no idea what the rules are any more. He’s a 3rd year player – so I thought he couldn’t still be on the PS, except I know they also have vet exemptions, but I also thought there were rules on how those could be used.

I’m sort of surprised that Garrett Greene got a PS spot. He looked so good last preseason, but this preseason, he was pretty bad and had an awful night vs the Jags. He is moving from QB to WR, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement, but he sure seemed to go backwards from last year – and from camp reports it sounded like he wasn’t any better in practice.

Also, sacks against future refrigerator salesmen and sanitation workers don’t mean a lot. Markees Watts led the NFL in sacks in preseason his rookie year. Obviously, his career was stellar.

You see all the hot young, high-energy, modern franchises… And, they’re ALL constantly MOVIN. Constantly. All up and down the draft board. All throughout training camp and preseason. They are making MOVES. They’re constantly trying to get better, while looking for EVERY possible advantage they can EXPLOIT. Any edge they can get. They have a PLAN. And, they know what to do and HOW to execute it. But, OUR Owners, want to be the Tomlin-Steelers. A stagnant and DYING franchise, still stuck in the past with NO SHOT. As everyone else is passing us by.

What I see is that there is a group of fans who want Bowles gone so badly that they want this team to lose.
They are far removed from unbiased.
And than you have the trolls who want to completely blow things up because they don’t want the Bucs to be a threat to the team they really follow…such as the Falcons, Panthers or Saints.

Seems like Paul Rubelt and his size could be utilized for some type of gadgetry. His broad jump was his biggest highlight, tying for second among the Combine’s linemen with a 9-foot-8-inch leap. This is while weighing 310 pounds and standing 6 feet, 10 inches. Seems like somebody like that could block a field goal. Or take a sneak and fall forward for a first down. Maybe there is something creative you can do with him. I read Braswell wouldn’t sign with Bucs practice squad he wanted a fresh start somewhere else, didn’t see where a team picked him up yet so that’s kind of interesting.

One thing that did give me pause however was reading on Pyburn, and the The Athletic described him as a mini-Brock Lesnar. I thought man, having a mini-Brock on team would be great – but then I remember that Brock also tried out for the NFL and got let go at the final cut. So a mini-version of him probably doesn’t have a chance. But who knows.
