Bucs 2026 Training Camp Practice Notes Day 14

August 19th, 2026

Rookie TE Bauer Sharp has no reason to hang his head with the training camp he has had. Sharp had a pair of touchdown catches today.

Highlight-filled Bucs training camp practice this morning.

* Among the spectators at practice today included Vita Vea and his bad contract back, bored Zyon McCollum and A’Shawn Robinson.

* Joel Glazer was at practice for the second straight day. Joe saw Glazer having a long, sometimes animated chat with Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. But every time Joe saw Glazer or Licht turn around, they were both smiling. Interestingly, Glazer and Licht had their chat with Vita Vea standing maybe four or five feet in front of them.

* Joe loves seeing coaches get interactive at practices. During defensive line drills, defensive line coach Marcus West used himself as a live tackling dummy. Only he wasn’t wearing pads. West sparred with several defensive linemen on a drill. But outside linebackers coach Larry Foote walked off the practice fields after practice wearing shoulder pads. Joe asked him what he was doing, suiting up for a comeback? Nah, Foote told Joe, he just wanted to give his linebackers practice on how to grab pads and toss blockers away.

* Anthony Nelson has really had a quiet camp. Too quiet, which gets Joe thinking. But today he wasn’t in hiding. At least not early. Baker Mayfield tried a short screen pass to the left. Nelson got past the line, raised up an arm and tipped Mayfield’s pass. It looked just like the pick-six he had in New Orleans last year, only this time Nelson didn’t pick off his own tip. On this play, the ball fell to the ground.

* Once again, practice is held in front of a wall of players and coaches. Sure which the Google geeks can devise see-through binoculars.

* There’s a fumbled snap between Graham Barton and Mayfield. Not sure who the culprit was.

* Jake Browning passes to the left and it is incomplete.

* Looked like the same play with Browning throwing left. A receiver dove for the ball but it was also incomplete. Joe couldn’t get the number of the receiver.

* The Bucs are wearing “shells” today, which is just a helmet and shoulder pads. So hitting is at a minimum. Bucky Irving runs left and rather than try to tackle him, cornerback Damarion Williams just tried to strip the ball from Bucky. The force just spun Bucky around.

* Mayfield throws to Bucky to the left.

* Mayfield was looking deep, stepped to his right as he was feeling the heat and then threw from sort of an awkward position, off balanced to Bauer Sharp who was 15 yards or so down the right sideline. The rookie from LSU did the rest as he housed the catch for six.

* Mayfield drops back. Looks, looks, pumps twice, is flushed to his right and then says to himself, “Aw, Phuket,” tucks the ball and takes off.

* Browning throws deep for Dean Patterson down the right sideline but it’s a little too far. Patterson stretched out and got his hands on the ball but it was a little too long.

* Ted Hurst goes full-blown David Thompson — there’s an old-school reference for ya.’ If you are stumped, Google is your friend — and caught a touchdown from Mayfield with a high-flying catch and was undercut by Antoine Winfield. Joe spoke with Hurst after practice and he’s fine.

* Sean Tucker catches a pass from Mayfield to the left.

* Kenny Gainwell catches a short pass from Mayfield to the left.

* Pretty play: Mayfield finds Kameron Johnson open over the middle and hits him with a perfect pass. Johnson then races upfield, splits two defenders and is off to the races as he pulls away from the Bucs’ secondary for six.

* Sharp makes an over-the-shoulder catch of a Browning pass down the right sideline for a score.

* Mayfield goes deep for Hurst over the middle but the two could not connect.

* Sharp catches another pass from Browning, this time around 15ish yards down the right sideline and Sharp houses the play.

* Gainwell runs off right tackle and Ayden Garnes just bearhugs him.

The Bucs will have one more practice this week, Thursday morning, and then will play the Chiefs on Saturday in the second worthless preseason game of the summer.

At this point the Bauer Sharp TE battle is about TE2 rather than making the roster.

  2. Joe Says:

    LetsBucs:

Sharp reminds Joe a little bit of Cam Brate. Not just because he wears No. 84.

Sounds like the secondary needs to pick ⛏️ it up! Same old story???

  4. BuccoMarty Says:

Rumormill has it that Kristian Fulton might not make the Chiefs final 53. $13 mil cap charge (Bucs only have $8.5 mil cap space), so he’ll have to clear waivers and the Bucs would have to get him to sign much cheaper than his last contract.

Given the pain at CB, might be worth the look.

A.Robinson had an vet day off

Seemingly vet day. Joe missed Bowles talking as Joe was trying to corral Ted Hurst.

Is it day 14 already, where has the time gone. Yet Cincy feels years away…

    Thanks Joe for the notes!

  9. JimBobBuc Says:

Nelson is 6’7” and should be in the middle of the line just to bat down or pick passes. West needs to have his guys work on batting down passes.

    ^^^^^^^^

IDK. He had a bad drop and a bad fumble. Coaches really really don’t like fumbles.

He’s very injury prone and has never had a full season.
