All-Pro Afternoon For Rueben Bain Against The Jets

Yesterday, Joe shared how Miami Mauler rookie Bucs edge rusher Rueben Bain did not have a standout Tuesday against the New York Jets in joint practice.
Nothing bad, but his bar is set so damn high, just being good isn’t interesting. Today, Bain was eye-opening.
Consider that before Bain and the Bucs’ first-team defense entered a 1-minute drill (1:06 to be exact) against the first-team Jets offense, Bain was downright unblockable in 1-on-1 pass rush drills against the Jets. Rushing from the left edge, Bain repeatedly was a menace.
Joe watched practice in earshot of former Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who was there reporting for NFL Network. Soon after the Bain show in 1-on-1 work, Jones-Drew was on the air using the same adjective for Bain that Joe used: “unblockable.” Jones-Drew added that was against “very good Jets tackles.”
Back to the 1-minute drill that started from the Jets 20 yard line: Bain flashed his trademark bend and emerged quickly off the left edge past right tackle Armand Membou, the 2025 Jets first-round pick. Sack!! It was the fourth play of the drive from the Jets-31.
Now Bain draws a double team. Smart move, Jets. But it’s probably a foreshadowing of what’s to come this season. How does the drive end? Bain overpowers Membou this time and gets the sack.
Bain also was a beast against the run today. Joe twice saw him chase down runs on the other side of the field.

I had never watched Bain play until he played Ohio State last year in the playoffs and I was just shocked at how good he was. Just an absolute monster on the field. He is one of those guys that comes around once a decade.

Wow I think Sapp Jr haha, is going to be good for the Bucs. I love him since the pick was announced and the backwards Sapp jersey. Now he ran down a runner on the other side of the field to!!!!! There’s a play on the cd of the Bucs first Super Bowl season, when Sapp runs alongside a Steeler running back, picks him up, turns him upside down, and dumps him on his head. The next shot is Sapp laughing on the sideline. I’m rooting for Bain to have a moment like that. Legendary.
