Strong get-off.
Calijah Kancey lived up to his reputation; YaYa Diaby surprised. A former Bucs lineman had quality numbers and you wonder if Father Time has begun tapping on Vita Vea’s shoulder.
This and more can be sifted through in some defensive line pass rushing data. The Twitter handle @fball_insights published defensive line pass rushing data cobbled together from various sources.
You can see the data below, but Joe has observations.
* Who knew Haason Reddick did so well with his get-off? The fact he didn’t do much after that suggests he too was feeling Father Time’s tap.
* YaYa Diaby’s pass block win rate surprised Joe. This ought to be better this fall since it seemed the Bucs had an offseason goal to try to draw traffic away from YaYa and get him more one-on-one blocks and fewer double- and triple-teams.
* Calijah Kancey is known for his quickness off the snap. Even though he didn’t play much, the data shows Kancey lived up to his reputation.
* Who knew Logan Hall was an average pass rusher (Joe is typing that as a compliment)? Maybe there is a reason DeMeco Ryans wanted Hall back home in Houston?
* Vita Vea had a good pass block win rate, which you expect from a human bison like him. But you wonder if his below-average get-off is a sign he’s on the wrong side of 30?

Yes the Putrid Pass Defense of recent past will be the main point of importance this year. As long as that Oline stays healthy that side of the ball is gonna be just fine. Can’t help but think Bain is going to be a Stud and be a Franchise changing talent that can get to the QB in critical moments aka 3rd downs. Let’s get Bake signed and get this years party started. Go Bucs!!

Hall was a solid DLineman for the Bucs, but he seemed to mostly be used just as a piece to plug a gap, and he was worth paying and keeping. But, when the QB want $50 M, you have to let good players walk to stay under the cap.
With all of the supposed “complexity” of Bowles’ defense with its “exotic looks”, Hall seemed to be the forgotten man just left to plug away in his gap.
For a DLineman, being the forgotten man is not always a bad thing, but Hall voiced excitement when he signed with the Texans. I understood him to mean that the Texans wanted to give him some opportunities on the outside that he didn’t get in Tampa.
As good as the Texas DLine already was, adding another solid piece is bad news for everyone who plays them. Fortunately, the Bucs will not play them this season unless both teams make it to the Super Bowl. And, if something that incredible happened, it would really suck to face that defense at the end of the season in a championship game.

Combine the lack of finishers, the lack of being on the field and the lack of motivation with the CBs lining up ten yards of the opposing WRs and it’s easy to see why they sucked.
They did suck. No team gives up 3rd & 28 and 4th & 14 back to back unless they suck.
All the Venn diagrams and stopwatch BS can’t make them better than they actually were.
2025, the Defense sucked. Sucked at coaching. Attitude sucked. Tacking sucked.

Can’t blame a player for wanting to play for the Texans defense. Watch out for that team again this year. Those guys just beat down whoever they play! If you’re a fantasy football nut like me just bench whoever you have going against Houston. Even McCaffrey only scored 7 points total! Maybe Licht will look at them and say hey this nice guy routine isn’t working.

Does that guy track how often Vita gets doubled? He really didn’t have anyone good playing next to him.
As for Hall, dude needs to be a DE in a 4-3, we tried to make him into a tackle. I bet he does very well this year

Yes VV is approaching the cliff in performance
Love the guy but his body type is not treated kindly by Father Time and unlike other positions it’s impossible to cover up the weakness in performance.

It’s why I am kind of wary of VV getting anything more than a 2 year deal. Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely appreciative of him and so glad he has been a Buc. But I can’t help but think 2 years is about all we can expect for premier play from him.

Looking at this chart, it appears to me that the Bucs lost out on the switch from Logan Hall to Robinson. No wonder the Panthers let Robinson walk.
How are Kancy and Reddick so below average on their “win rate” when they have a superior “get off”?
Yaya and Verse are in the same spot. “IF” Bain is who we “hope” he is, Yaya has no place to go but up.
Muhammad’s win rate is impressive. Having him rotate with Bain and Yaya should be a nice improvement for the Bucs OLB’s.
Poor Nelson, slow white boy. But about the same “get off” as Muhammad, just not much of a win rate.
One can see why the Titans threw so much money at Simmons.

Garrett, Hutchinson and C. Jones are all in a class by themselves, aren’t they? Wow.

All this Hall praise… Bucs missed the playoffs because Hall inexcusably missed a sack on Saints’ QB which resulted in a Shough TD run and loss.

If CK can stay somewhat healthy and play at least 12 games he will have a 10 sack season.

There were hundreds of stupid, boneheaded, lazy, or just plain outmatched plays last year that could have switched a game from W to L. Seems to me many (most?) players had one at times. The ST guys and coach had way too many.
Pinning anything on Hall for just one of them in that context seems kinda lame. We are all human and all mess up sometimes, even pros. Did he have more than his share over the season? Doubt it. He is solid. Not excellent, but solid.

Yes there were alot of bad plays last year, but there are reasons why Hall and Dean were Not re-signed – they were involved in specific plays that cost the Bucs games down the stretch and cost the Bucs a playoff spot.

CK lived up to his reputation? Guess we’re just glossing over the fact his win rate is pretty poor. Still surprises me how so many think he’s this incredible player when healthy. He’s a liability against the run and the one thing he’s supposed to be good at…rushing the passer…he’s below average.
Also glad to see we’re paying Robinson $10M a year for those abysmal numbers. Keep up the good work Gas Licht.

If Logan Hall has a good 2026 then Bowles is to blame. If he is just another JST, blame Licht.
I cannot think of many Bucs that have left and played better.

I suspect it’s more about him being on the wrong side of 345 pounds. It takes a little longer for that overloaded freight train to pick up speed.

Big changes this year with Bain and Muhammed. If Kancey can stay healthy 60 sacks is possible.
