Gerald McCoy Has Baker Mayfield’s Back

Advice to a fellow Sooner.
This comes as no shock to Joe.
Proud product of Oklahoma University and Bucs alumnus, six-time Bucs Pro Bowler and former All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy had words about Baker Mayfield’s news-shattering press conference yesterday.
In case you are just waking up from a three-day binge, Mayfield sounded off on what he thought were disrespecting if not insulting contract offers from the Bucs.
In his press conference, Mayfield said he thought he was a franchise quarterback for the Bucs because that’s what he has heard from people, including the Bucs.
GMC absolutely has Mayfield’s back and agrees strongly that Mayfield is a franchise quarterback. But GMC didn’t care to hear from Mayfield that he thought he was a franchise quarterback or that Mayfield thought he would have a good year in 2026.
“Baker has earned that,” GMC said of Mayfield’s status as a franchise quarterback. “He’s earned the right to be the guy. He is. Baker Mayfield is a franchise quarterback.
“And he should be the Bucs’ long-term franchise quarterback. That’s not no bias talkin.’ That’s consistency since he’s been there talkin.’ That’s who Baker Mayfield is. So Baker, don’t say you ‘Think,’ or ‘They told me.’ People don’t have to tell you nothin.’
“People told you you was a walk-on. People told you you weren’t going to be the No. 1 pick. … People wrote you off a long time ago. Forget what people say. That includes the owners, Jason [Licht], whoever. You are a franchise quarterback, so stand on business, my brother.”
GMC didn’t want to hear any words out of Mayfield’s mouth that he expected to have a good year this fall.
“No,” GMC said. “You are going to have a great year. Because this is who you are. Get healthy. For every time you are healthy, y’all see what had happened.”
Joe sees where GMC is going: Mayfield was just being honest and sincere. Unfortunately, being honest and sincere may win you favors from nuns or make you a higher figure in church, but in the world of business, honesty and sincerity will often get you raked over the coals.
GMC wants Mayfield to carry himself higher. Because the way GMC looks at it, if Mayfield doesn’t look out for No. 1, who will?

The Bucs offering him only 2 years is downright disrespect. Baker is better than Dak and a lot of others making more than him.

Eff the prove it to me deals, he has given the Bucs a prove it deal and a home town discount deal. Those games are over. Either pay the man for long term or trade him. What would people think if Baker would ask for a trade like VV

It appears that the Glazers who have a reputation for being stingy are hesitant to pay Baker north of 50 million. Mayfield is considered to be a top 10. top 12 quarterback. They all have something in common. they are making $55 million. It’s Bakers turn but something is stopping the Glazers. Is it his history of getting hurt due to his playing style or they are really stingy. Both assessments are not good for Baker, the players or fans.
If Baker plays out his contract this year, next year Baker may be taking his services to another team willing to pay the going rate for a top top 20 quarterback.
That means the Bucs could be facing another decade of doom and gloom. If that happens what will the Bucs fans do. Not sure 😕 the fans will put up with it. If the Glazers are really that stingy, it wouldn’t surprise me that the Bucs fans boycott the Bucs games in retaliation to the Glazers.
