Ben Solak: Second Round Pick For Vita Vea Is Not Crazy
July 28th, 2026Does Joe want Vita Vea in a Bucs uniform this fall? Hell yes!
But Joe is also looking at the big picture. While fans are supposed to be happy and carefree and dance through the puffy white clouds and rainbows and bunny rabbits that hover over and around One Buc Palace with the start of training camp tomorrow morning, do we really believe the Bucs are Super Bowl-bound this year?
Joe wants that to be true. Badly. But this team has struggled to win the NFC South landfill and it lost its best receiver in franchise history, lost a Hall of Fame linebacker and lost its best cornerback.
And that was on an eight-win, playoff-less team.
The future matters, too.
Ben Solak of ESPN thinks Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht might get a nice return package if he were to ship out Via Vea, who asked for at trade yesterday.
Solak pointed out that the only nose tackle in the NFL better than Vea, Dexter Lawrence, was able to fetch a No. 10 overall pick from Cincinnati. While Solak noted Lawrence is younger than Vea, it also tells Solak the Bucs can get good value for Vea.
Solak said he spoke with an NFL suit and asked what he would pay for Vea if he had a need for a nose tackle. Solak was told a second- and a fifth-round pick.
Yes, Joe wants Vea in Tampa. But a decent package for Vea can help the Bucs’ defense down the road for years with good, young players.

Sold !
Get him OUT!
VV has made it clear that he simply can’t suit up for this franchise.
Poor Bains … looking around and wondering what the F is going on behind the scenes at OBP !
3rd round pick and MOVE on
Maybe the next GM in 2027 can turn this festering carbuncle to heal
July 28th, 2026 at 7:36 am
Either pay Vita a few extra million so he stops pouting or just trade him.
I don’t want him in Tampa if he truly doesn’t want to be here…
This is no big surprise to me.
I would take a 2nd round pick ASAP if it’s offered.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:38 am
If you can get that, take it. Aging, expensive player, who is on the sidelines with his hand on his hips more than he is in the game.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:39 am
Vita not being on the DLine next year will sink the Bucs. What trade could help the Bucs ???
Is this a fire sale now. Bucs dont want to pay their top players, Mike ran away FOR LESS Money!!!!!
There is a Serious Problem behind closed doors
July 28th, 2026 at 7:43 am
Without Vea this DL is in the conversation for the worst in the league.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:43 am
This year is toast. Trade him.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:44 am
It’s a win win situation if we can get a 2nd round pick for him.
Save Cap Room and sign a Corner.
That 2nd Rounder will help a rebuild next year.
Trade Winfield too.
We might need multiple picks to move up to get a QB next year.
Right after our 4-2 start, 4 game losses in a row before finishing 4-3 to squeak by with a losing record lol.
This ship is On Fire.
We don’t need no water let the MFer Burn
July 28th, 2026 at 7:45 am
This is the domino effect of keeping Todd.
This season will show who really wants to play for Bowles.
Keep them coming Joe!
July 28th, 2026 at 7:46 am
The Suh Effect is real as he is a smart businessman who prolonged his career. Helping Vita financially and physically is a good thing for Vita. Pull the trigger for a 2nd round pick but we lose our best defensive player, who has increased his snaps by being in better shape. Is Robinson ready for the heat? Absolutely not, this is a huge blow to the defense and our playoff hopes. Fingers crossed something can be worked out but it’s tough to see a long time buccaneer move onto a different franchise.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:48 am
This isn’t a serious problem behind closed doors or some conspiracy theory. The Bucs are NOT Super Bowl ready! So, for these older players like Vea it’s go play for a contender or try and break the bank for a last contract. Maybe both?

Agree with both of you
July 28th, 2026 at 7:50 am
Second round pick!! ABSOLUTELY — and, by the way, trade him to an outdoor, cold weather site….
July 28th, 2026 at 7:56 am
Finally!!!!!! Someone with half a brain. Been banging the trade drum to get rid of Fat Boy for months!!!! And that goes for any other overpaid. out of shape clock beaters on the team.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:58 am
“Second round pick!! ABSOLUTELY — and, by the way, trade him to an outdoor, cold weather site….”
Nahhh, trade Fat Boy to Miami, a place hotter and more humid than Tampa.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:59 am
Mike leaves for less money.
David admits of loafing.
McCollum is bored.
3rd and 28
Bowles says the Captains have to solve the problems.
Bowles does not force Baker to sit a couple of games to recover from injury.
The flats become Touchdown Avenue for opposing teams.
But you know what? Let’s give Bowles another chance. The division is right up his alley.
Oh wait! Todd fires coaches and hires his son to double the Bowles!
Todd knows the Glacer were turn down by Harbaugh.
Todd is laughing all the way to the bank!!!
It’s Exciting!!!!!!!
Reality check is in order for some Bucs fans.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:04 am
Run Baker run !
July 28th, 2026 at 8:06 am
Bye bye Vita.
Not a team guy.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:06 am
“I would take a 2nd round pick ASAP if it’s offered.“
And you get fleeced, are you kiddin?
Giants got the 10th overall pick for Dexter Lawerence and here you are willing to accept a bag of Funyuns for Vita Vea.
Terrible compensation, even as a hypothetical
July 28th, 2026 at 8:06 am
David and Dean are /were past their prime. Evans, at this point in his career, is susceptible to injuries, and Bucs have capable talent at receiver.
David, seemingly, has been replaced with a capable player (Anzalone).
Trading Vea makes no sense unless you are in rebuild mode This year, which Bucs are clearly Not.
Standing firm with Vea and Mayfield (offer Vea and Mayfield a raise this year with no long term commitments) will keep Bucs a competitive team this year and keep the Bucs’ options for rebuilding mode if necessary.
If Vea or Mayfield hold out and ruin their own careers as well as the Bucs’ prospects this year, at least the Bucs will have alot of cap space moving forward for a new rebuild and probably a new coaching staff.
Trading Vea for a 2nd or 3rd round pick would be DUMB and send a message to other Bucs players currently under contract.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:13 am
2nd or even a 3rd round pick for part time player VV? A guy that no longer wants to be in Tampa? Do it. Pull the trigger JL.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:13 am
It’s started.
Seems Licht is falling into the trap left open for GM’s with a ‘Vacancy’ tattoo on their forehead.
It means he’s gonna pay Baker, and the treasure chest will be depleted, and good players like Vita will be let go or traded so we can make one guy happy.
This takes foolish to a whole new level, especially considering the league is littered with overpaid QB’s who have dragged their team into cap hell.
It’s October of 1929 in Bucsville, and the over speculation crash is around the corner.
Sorry Vita, gotta pay Baker. Thank you for your service.
This course of action, other than with one guy in NFL history, NEVER WORKS!
All these high priced QB’s have one thing in common. They watch the Super Bowl every year from their couch.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:21 am
And if Miami is not interested, give him to the Jets.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:29 am
We shouldn’t pay Baker until after the end of the season. If the collapse of the coaching staff is coming then let the new coach decide wether Baker is the future or not.
Baker has shown here and in Cleveland that he will play throw injuries no matter how bad they are. Bowles has shown not having the fortitude to address that problem. I like Baker but I don’t want to settle for this kind of seasons.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:31 am
“2nd or even a 3rd round pick for part time player VV? A guy that no longer wants to be in Tampa? Do it. Pull the trigger JL.“
His snaps been going up by about 10% each year for the last 3 years, try again. Last year was 78% of the total defense snaps, highest in his career and he stayed healthy.
Again, terrible deal. Even a 3rd, man Í wish I had something to sell you guys cause I’d be rich
July 28th, 2026 at 8:37 am
Absolutely insane they are more concerned with the middling QB than they are the best player on our defense.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:41 am
I guess it’s not a good time for the Blazers to ask for a new stadium
July 28th, 2026 at 8:45 am
Do it
Can anyone on this putrid defensive unit with a straight face honestly say they deserve a raise?
July 28th, 2026 at 8:48 am
The question is is Vita Vea having the same realization Mike had? The future might be brighter on another team. Vita might be thinking to stay with Bowles you have to over pay me otherwise trade me.
Still some don’t see the elephant in the room. SMH
July 28th, 2026 at 8:50 am
What he said, “ This is the domino effect of keeping Todd.”. No way we should part ways with VV for a second round pick – JL, open the glazers wallet and pay Baler and Vita and let’s get through this mess you created by keeping Bowles
July 28th, 2026 at 8:51 am
You know that feeling when you feel a puke coming on
You know that feeling when explosive diarrhea is coming on
Yeah…. Two seasons of pent up franchise DISFUNCTION
July 28th, 2026 at 8:53 am
@ warrin
Are you aware that Vea probably won’t be here next season?
He is on the LAST YEAR of his deal bud…
To get a 2nd round pick for a one year rental is a great value IMO.
You can disagree all you want but I honestly don’t get your position at all.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:56 am
@ warrin
Maybe our positions are based on our current team expectations.
I don’t see the Bucs winning more than 7 games.
Maybe you see the Bucs going to the SB…
I’m seriously trying to understand your logic here.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:57 am
This is just icing on the cake. Players totally gave up on playing last year and those that cried the loudest have been allowed to escape the team. I’m so tired of hearing all this whining, and if someone isn’t happy let them go. But get a good draft pick a good player out of it and hey maybe a good CB. I hate to see him go, and did think they should have paid him along time ago.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:59 am
“….do we really believe the Bucs are Superbowl bound this year?”
Honest answer, no. The same honest answer given by Seahawks fans last year.
That’s why this is a tough spot. VV is one of the best (Keep him!) VV is on the wrong side of 30 for a DT (Trade him!)
Bilicheck moving players a year early? Genius move by the Patriots!
Getting rid of the bedrock of your DL? What are you thinking??
July 28th, 2026 at 9:01 am
let him go
July 28th, 2026 at 9:02 am
@WBL: 78% of snaps for VV..fair enough but..he doesn’t want to be in Tampa and he is on the wrong side of 30. 78% of defensive snaps is not going to happen this year and certainly not next year. 2nd rounder and go get VV’s replacement.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:05 am
“78% of defensive snaps is not going to happen this year and certainly not next year. 2nd rounder and go get VV’s replacement.”
Riiiiiight
“I don’t see the Bucs winning more than 7 games.“
I can’t go off what you see, because you saw -$13M and thought “savings” lol
July 28th, 2026 at 9:05 am
JL is having a bad case of the meat sweats !
This will be JL’s season of pulling the wool over the Blazer’s eyes
July 28th, 2026 at 9:09 am
Comical that anyone thinks you can just easily draft a replacement for a special talent like Vea. We have the Retodd and his Retodders.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:13 am
Since we have to trade Vea, we might as well trade Baker too. It looks like JL is negotiating his way into losing Baker for no compensation next season. At least try to get a pick or two. JL in a death spiral. Metaphorically.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:15 am
“Comical that anyone thinks you can just easily draft a replacement for a special talent like Vea”
Stated in a post yesterday Vea is a 1 of 1 type player, doesn’t have gaudy stats but in terms of being a functioning football player at his position there aren’t more many option at his position I’d pick over him signed, unsigned or yet to be drafted.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:19 am
Vita should have done this before the draft. Getting a 2nd that we can’t use until ’27 doesn’t help NOW
July 28th, 2026 at 9:24 am
Bucs players know bucs don’t have a chance at nothing not anytime soon there is no loyalty from none of them vita gonna be a distraction this team doesn’t have what it takes to recover from its a bucs life
July 28th, 2026 at 9:26 am
anyone could see this coming, at least anyone with a brain.
the bucs are not committed to winning this year, or last year. they are burying the fact that they know they dont have the players or the coach to win. all this dog cr@p rookie of the year yada mvp yada nonsense. until the coach goes, nobody wins anything playing for the bucs.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:29 am

7-10.
Learn it.
Know it.
Live it…
July 28th, 2026 at 9:36 am
WBL, agree 100% that VV is a 1 of 1.
The whole reason this is a tough call is because these 1 of 1 players can’t play forever.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:46 am
Have to sign VV or just sell off the whole damn team-Everybody knows Todd is gone after this year and you need some quality core players to entice your next coach.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:47 am
It’s concerning when vets that have been exceptional pros for an organization are starting to bail on the team. Either Licht or Bowles are rubbing these guys wrong behind the scenes. It can’t be helpful to resigning Mayfield or other younger players coming due for contracts. You’re only selling point to get guys to possibly consider less money is being in a position to contend for championships. We don’t look like we’re trying to win a championship when we got great players leaving left and right.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:47 am
They should not trade him.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:53 am
He’s another Reddick just waiting to happen for whomever trades for him without an extension already set in place. Then, the next team will get totally BUC’ed. I can’t see where or HOW this benefits Vea in ANY way. And, what’s he gonna do sit-out THIS season and miss-out on about $18-MILLION!? To THEN WHAT… Get traded to play on another 1-YEAR/low guaranteed deal!? Cause, NO ONE is giving HIM anymore than that, after ‘sitting-OUT’ for an entire season. He’s getting some HORRIBLE advice from a couple of his buddies, who aren’t even PLAYING in the League, who sounds-like they are just living out THEIR OWN regrets through HIM.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:53 am
Bucs have no choice but to trade Vea. If they don’t, then either of the following will occur:
1. He will sit out and become a free agent. Bucs get nothing for him. (Yes, it would be unwise for Vea to do this, but look at who is advising him).
2. He plays out his contract and becomes a cancer in the locker room. I can see the Bucs giving him the Keyshawn Johnson treatment and deactivating him for games. This scenario is even worse than getting nothing for him.
Get what you can now for this over rated non athletic part time selfish slob.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:03 am
Calling him ‘non athletic’ is all I need to know, to know you know nothing about him. LMAO
July 28th, 2026 at 10:27 am
We are going to win 7 games. If someone wants to give me a second and fifth rounder for Vea, I am doing it and I think Licht would too. Those picks will come in handy for our new coach next year. As for Todd (2-7 finish last year), he can go find Lovie Smith and they can go fishing together…..or do anything that’s not related to coaching a team or running its defense. Good riddens. “We gotta coach it better”, yeah right…..
July 28th, 2026 at 10:28 am
A 2nd round pick?…thats BS!!!!…and its even more BS with licht making the pick!!!!….what is his history with 2nd round pick?….NOT GOOD!!!!
i cant believe you clowns are turning your back on a player the bucs drafted and helped bring in another SB…
yall are the worse fan in NFL history….
baker has brought this city nothing and wants 50mil….you guys are a joke!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
July 28th, 2026 at 10:38 am
you clowns are ridiculous lol….
if the BUCS dont extend Vita, it far more likely that he’ll get 10sack this season and become an unstoppable force, driving up his value vs him being a lockeroom cancer…
reddick showed his immature behavior in NYC…Vita has been a true professional….BUCS are doing him wrong!!!!
GO BUCS!!!
July 28th, 2026 at 10:39 am
Couch – I know that he lacks stamina and carries way too much non muscle weight which are not athletic characteristics. So back it up, expert. What do you know?
July 28th, 2026 at 10:40 am
Pay the man and wait to pay Baker until the end of the season. Father time is catching up with Baker
July 28th, 2026 at 10:52 am
If he sits out (and just voluntarily takes a match to $18-MIL)… NO ONE is just handing HIM (at 32-years old) this BIG longterm guaranteed deal. It’s just NOT happenin. And that is even IF he is set to become a true “free agent” after this season, after sitting-out!? Cause, best of memory with the way that NFL contracts work (or used to work)… The Bucs would STILL own his rights, even AFTER sitting-out this season. And, he would NOT be “free” to just sign wherever HE WANTED. Though, he wouldn’t get anywhere NEAR the contract HE’s expecting or looking for… If he were to choose to sit-out. I’m tellin ya… This has Reddick written all over it!!!! He’s getting some HORRIBLE advice. Unless, he can be traded right now, AND get someone to offer him a that big extension. Ummm, Good-Luck with that, I guess. LoL. But, I’d take a 2027 2nd in a HEARTBEAT. That would be a HUGE win for the Bucs… Though, I don’t think they could get it for him. The Bengals were DESPERATE, and way overpaid for a much YOUNGER player, that they were willing to EXTEND (and already had the “extension” for JUST 1-YEAR and only $10-MIL guaranteed, already set in place BEFORE the trade). So, I really don’t understand WHAT Vea is even THINKING!? He’s getting HORRIBLE advice. I suppose the Bucs must not be willing to give an INCH. Though, what else really can they do after re-signing Godwin, extending McCollum, AND signing Reddick. Lickt put us HERE.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:52 am
813Buc, calling other fans names takes away all your credibility as a poster on this site. Don’t let feelings get in the way of facts! Vea has been training with Suh for going on 3 years out on the West Coast. He’s also signing what would be his last contract. There is a possibility that he may want to play his final years with a contender in CA. There are many reasons he could be asking for a trade. There is also a chance he no longer wants to be here in Tampa. Who Knows! If it were only the money this probably would have been done already.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:56 am
I’ve been saying this for months… He is a free agent after this year. Some team is going to overpay for a 32 year-old DT after the season and the Bucs will lose him for nothing.
My guess is late first and fifth or early second and fourth
This is close.
Unless they can get him on a two-year deal, which I doubt he would do, trade him.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:56 am
@ 813bucboi – has absolutely NOTHING to do with being a “professional” inside the locker room, & etc. By EVERY account, so was REDDICK. I’m talking only “FINANCIALLY” FOR VEA. If this supposed “next team” doesn’t have this big fat extension sitting there, and waiting on him. It’ll get real ugly and QUICK for him.
July 28th, 2026 at 11:00 am
Look, he’s very enticing for a team trying to win THIS year, He or CG were bound tobe gone next year to free up loot for Baker’s (and others of the Crew) bounty. A 1st rounder is unlikely at this point, but a second or hopefully a second and a younger player (DT, CB, LB…) opens the window further.
You’ve got yer work cut out for you JL. Get to it, or “it’s (potentially) the Plank for you!”

BINGO!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!
July 28th, 2026 at 11:07 am
The Bucs don’t have to be in any hurry to do ANY freaking thing. If Vea is not VERY careful, he will only end up “Reddicking” HIMSELF. But, who knows… Maybe, he already KNOWS the team who’s going to be willing to pay him. Or, at least thinks he does!? Though, I can’t see if. He’s only painting HIMSELF in a corner, if that team does not already exist. That team BETTER exist, if he’s willing to be fined everyday, and LOSE $18-MIL.
July 28th, 2026 at 11:12 am
As much as I think this team is better with Vita I would deal him for a second and 5th round pick. Especially since we all know Bowles will have this thing blown up by mid October anyways when his yearly slump starts.
July 28th, 2026 at 11:15 am
Last time I checked, our best receiver in franchise history (though injured), Hall of Fame linebacker and its best cornerback were part of that 8 wins last season. I don’t see VV being that great of a loss. When did he ever take over a game due to his play (66% of snaps per game or something around that number?). Trade him if you can get a significant draft pick, negotiating ploy or not. Call his bluff.
July 28th, 2026 at 11:49 am
Vita just does not want to go into the season without the extension. If he gets hurt without it, he loses millions in a new contract. Obviously the Bucs and him are not close so Vita demands a trade.
No reason to panic. Vita has a weak position. Bucs have time on their side.
1 Bucs continue to work a deal to sign Vita as he does his sit in.
2. Another team will have a significant injury and willing to offer a solid trade package.
3. Neither 1 or 2 happens. Vita either plays or sits and losses 18 million. Reddick already proved that strategy is not good
July 28th, 2026 at 11:54 am
Bucs should trade Vea to the Browns. Denzel Ward is on the block and is still a top 5 CB. It will take Vea and a 2027 second round draft pick to get Ward.
Bucs need to move to a 4-3 front. Bowles has proven that no matter how many guys are dropped into zone coverage his defense gets pick apart.
July 28th, 2026 at 11:55 am
The most hypocritical fan base in the world. A’Shawn Robinson is 31 and no one questioned his age and ability. This fan base is actually mad because Vita wants to play here longer one year🤣🤣
July 28th, 2026 at 12:05 pm
You can blame most of this on Godwin’s sorry contract. We’re stuck paying for him and this is the result. Trade via to whoever gives you the best deal. His 17 mil off the books will help with Baker’s contract.
July 28th, 2026 at 12:23 pm
lol why say he is pouting the mf wants a good playing wage
July 28th, 2026 at 12:30 pm
I’d trade him. Next year when we have a new coach running a 4-3, we won’t need a 350 pound Nose Tackle. Eat some of the dead money and cap hits this year, take a losing year, and start fresh next year with some cap space, a new coach, and a 4-3 defense. We drafted Bain in the first round this year, and he’s much more of a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 DE. So we’ve already taken the first step. I think you could trade VV and a 4th and get a 1st rounder next year.
July 28th, 2026 at 12:47 pm
Just read an analysis of strengths of all teams 49rs are #5 (could get to SB). This is why Evans left. FOR A CHANCE. Bucs are #19. GOING NOWHERE, Trade VIa and blow the whole thing up. Years of depression coming up.
July 28th, 2026 at 1:45 pm
What Season ticket holder wants to “wait until next year” with a stupid trade. Especially for a 2nd round pick. Who wants to pay through the nose by losing their nose tackle for a team circling the drain? What will we pay for, to wear paper bags over our heads?
July 28th, 2026 at 1:55 pm
So 813bucboi, are you saying that VV will perform better than he has ever performed if he doesn’t get an extension? Well, if that’s the case, I’ll take that in the upcoming season and roll the dice with him for next year. My expectation is that he might perform slightly better than last year as he “auditions” for 2027.
July 28th, 2026 at 2:09 pm
VV will be 33 by the end of the 2027 season (Feb 2028).
If you ask me, Jason nailed VV’s last extension. It was the perfect length and compensation. Based on the numbers, he’s starting to show signs of decline.
Why doesn’t he want to bet on himself like Baker?? He wants a new deal now because he’s concerned he won’t be the same player after this year.
July 28th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
It would be crazy not to trade him for a second round pick. But at his age and position you are not going to get a second rounder. Unless some team has a serious injury this off-season no team will be interested on taking on his salary plus giving up any pick.
July 28th, 2026 at 3:05 pm
What sane GM would give a 2-pick for only one year’s service?
Now, if it’s a sign-and-trade, I want a first-rounder, maybe throwing in a little to make it happen. Either way, the guy only has three seasons left in him, going by Suh and Sapp, both of whom were better players.
July 28th, 2026 at 3:34 pm
If we trade him away we are saying this season is over before it even starts.
July 28th, 2026 at 3:43 pm
Send him to Cleveland or Arizona.
July 28th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
To be honest, Vita’s numbers were atrocious last year. I know he’s still a presence, but I urge people to really look at them. I don’t believe he wven ranked in the top 200 in any major defensive stat. That says a lot. Meanwhile, some of these new guys we’ve brought in have had pretty promising numbers. I hope Vea stays, but if he wants an enormous amount of money, time for him to leave.
July 28th, 2026 at 4:46 pm
I can see Vita in the tub all year with Kancey. Some mysterious soft tissue issue that will somehow disappear at the end of the year.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:13 pm
I saw that Crosby suggestion, not bad. Should talk to the Raiders at least, Brady knows him and may want him.
