Making August Fun Again

April 27th, 2024

More training camp intrigue on the way.

Bucs fans are getting spoiled. After this 2024 NFL Draft, fans will get three very interesting training camps and preseasons in a row.

Joe will explain.

In 2022, August featured all kinds of Tom Brady drama sparked by him leaving the team for 10 days or so shrouded in mystery. Then Brady didn’t play in preseason until the final game in Indianapolis, where the Bucs offense was electric in its opening series. Throw freshly-signed Julio Jones into the mix, Leonard Fournette’s DonutGate and Bucco Bruce Arians getting in trouble at practice after retiring — and tracking new running back Rachaad White — and it was a hell of an interesting summer.

Last year, the quarterback drama was captivating. Kyle Trask was “this close” to beating out what turned out to be a Pro Bowl QB in Baker Mayfield.

This year, Joe is fired up to see third-round pick receiver Jalen McMillan and now firecracker running back Bucky Irvin (5-9, 192 pounds) out of Oregon (Round 4) through the spring and summer.

McMillan and Trey Palmer fighting for a No. 3 spot, and Irvin finally giving White competition, should be a beautiful thing.

At least in underwear football, where there’s no blocking and tackling allowed, you can see receivers battle with defensive backs and how running backs move and catch the ball. And yes, Irvin has excellent hands.

All those guys will see a lot of preseason action, too, to prove they belong on the field.

Since we’re all draft experts and know much more than Licht, I’ll throw my two cents in and say Licht should package his two 6th round picks to move into the 5th round and get the BPA. Go Bucs!

Draft is always hyped up. Let’s wait and see how all players look 3 years from now and who signs second contract.

I will be at one of the joint practices for sure, those are my favorite to attend. I have told this story before but Jordan Whitehead lit up the Dolphins running back during the Goal Line period a few years back. I was about ten yards away, it was loud AF and one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a practice.
    GO BUCS

Pro Bowl QB in Baker Mayfield… LOL! Come on he was Pro Bowl MVP!

Reminds me of how Mac Jones was a Pro Bowler in 2022. It’s a very impressive honor in deed.

There goes Trotter Jr, I guess we are counting on SirVocea Dennis to replace David when he retires
