“I Love Getting The Ball”

March 9th, 2024

More touches the better.

Just give him the damn ball!

Joe is a big believer in playing to your strengths. The Bucs, despite how some prefer to pound the football, are built to throw.

The Bucs have a future Hall of Fame receiver, a Pro Bowl receiver, an elite pass catcher out of the backfield and a super quick receiver to take the top off a defense.

As far as the run, the Bucs have a guy who struggles to read holes and was No. 50 last season in yards after contact per attempt.

So yeah, Joe has a simple theory: Throw the damn ball!

And it seems new Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen may do just that. Celebrating his new contact with the Bucs yesterday, Mike Evans said he has spoken to Coen and the new playcaller is a believer in getting his best playmakers the ball and letting them do what they do best: Make plays.

And this seems to suit Evans just fine.

“Nothing but great things, I’ve heard about him,” Evans said of Coen after he admitted he has spoken to the former Rams offensive coordinator. “He was excited for the opportunity to get to work with me and I’m equally as excited.

“We talked about a lot of things – about getting me the ball. And you know I love getting the ball.”

And so do Bucs fans, Mike!

Coen “wants to do that and I’m appreciative,” Evans added. “That definitely helped my decision [to re-sign with the Bucs].”

Did anyone argue with teams of the past when they schemed up ways to get Jerry Rice the ball, Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson? No.

So why would it be a bad thing for Evans to get 10 to 12 targets a game?

Just missing Baker Mayfield and a pro bowl caliber center.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Got my wife a shirt that says Mike F——g Evans for Christmas.

She never wears it out in pubic.

  3. Beeej Says:

I know Todd wants to run, control the clock, etc, but what the team actually does WELL is pass. I believe he (Todd) reconciled himself to that later in the season last year when we started winning

  4. Bucsfan207 Says:

Mayfield to the Raiders. That’s why he hasn’t signed. Prois waiting on their official offer

  5. Bucsfan207 Says:

    Probably*

  6. Dave Pear Says:

The issue is simple and profoundly obvious.

Todd Bowles wants it to be 1968 all over again. He wants to grind clock more than score points, and keep his defense from getting tired so they can more vigorously blow their assignments in zone bust coverages.

    @buc 1987

    Hilarious.

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

Bucsfan 207: The Raiders signing Mayfield would to me, be the worst possible scenario in the history of scenarios. My son in law is a rabid Raiders fan…I would never hear the end of it.

  9. Cometowin2 Says:

As a rabid Mike Evans fan, it warmed my heart to hear how much that he wants to be a Buc for life, feels that he can still improve and wants to play another 5 years. I have 3 Bucs jerseys, Mike’s, Lavonte’s and Chris Godwin’s. I will be wearing at least Evans and LVD jerseys one day in Canton. Throw the damn ball!

As much ad I admire them as football players they are even better men! Go Bucs!!!

  10. Boss Says:

Got my wife a T shirt for Xmas that says F Mike Evans. She wears it everywhere.

  11. Proudbucsfan Says:

Boss, why are you such a Mike Evans hater ? I don’t think you’re a true Bucsfan because if you were you wouldn’t always be talking so much S—T about the best receiver in Buccaneer history. I really doubt you’re the Boss of anything but yourself

  12. Dave Pear Says:

Boss- what in the hell is wrong with you?

Probably your wife would really enjoy what the T-shirt suggests she should do. How is it being lower than pond scum.

  13. JimBobBuc Says:

Mike and Baker will have an entire offseason to work on their deep ball timing. I think Baker needs to get a little more air under his deep balls. They will kill it if they do that.

I hope that Mike will be more vocal working with the younger receivers. I’m really excited about Chris filling the Cupp role!!

  14. Bojim Says:

Boss ain’t the boss of himself either. Sounds like someone is ‘whipped’.

And we love it even more when you hold on to it and score 🙂

May be the sympathetic & parasympathetic are out of balance.

Haven’t been successful in contacting Alex about this subject and the remedy.

Congrats, so happy for you and your family

Best way to get the ball to mike is to get the ball to mike less. Hoping we are picking up some WRs inthe draft . IF teams can’t just gamep plan to take Mike out then he will be godlen.

  17. T. McGee Says:

Did I read that right? Boss’ wife F—ed Mike Evans and then got a t-shirt about it?

  18. Dave Pear Says:

    T McGee –

    ROTFLMAO! Brilliant!!!

Booss is such a depleted dumpster. To dis Mike like that is deplorable, but at least his wife got something good out of the deal.

  19. Brandon Says:

Boss’s wife has a shirt that says “F Mike Evans” and she does while Boss watches. That’s why he hates him.

  20. ChiBuc Says:

And on the front of these fake shirts it reads:

    “I’m with stupid—>”

  21. westernbuc Says:

Godwin needs 8-10 targets and White 5-7. Throw in the young guys for the plays that keep the defense honest. But Godwin needs more targets overall
