Injury Report Light But Important

January 11th, 2024

Injury report.

The Bucs just had a light practice today. Tomorrow, as YaYa Diaby told Joe, they will hit it. (Joe’s not sure if that means hitting or not.)

Had the Bucs had a regular practice today, only three guys would have missed practice. Two of those guys are kinda important.

Banged up Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, left tackle Tristan Wirfs and sometimes starting linebacker K.J. Britt would not have practiced today if it was a regular practice.

Even if the Bucs had sort of a walkthrough, all three sat out.

Wirfs popped up on the injury report as he is sick. We know about Mayfield’s ribs and ankle. Britt has a calf injury.

The only other Bucs player on the active roster who appeared on the injury report is cornerback Josh Hayes. He was limited today dealing with a quad and a knee injury.

    Baker

  3. MT Bucs Fan Says:

Joe, do we know what “illness” Wirfs has?

  4. Popcorn Mike Says:

The odds are kinda against the Bucs. Philly has lost 5 out of the last 6 and we all know they’re a much better team than that. Mayfield is injured with 2 tough injuries for a QB also Mayfield has been inconsistent when healthy and our run game has went south again. Got my fingers crossed hoping we pull this one off

    Only player who matters.
    Baker

    ^^^
Pretty sure the guy protecting his blind side is important too

  6. Greg Says:

A monkey can throw to Mike Evans. A MONKEY! Outside of Mike Evans what has Baker done? Nothing! This offense sucks under Baker and the media loves him. How many games did we have less than 100 yards of passing at half time? He gets beat up because he hangs on to the ball and tries to scramble instead of getting rid of the football.

  7. Bill in Seminole Says:

Light practice. Okay, but who is taking the majority of snaps under center? Bowles has to be preparing in case Baker can’t go, doesn’t he?

  8. Since76 Says:

Baker didn’t produce uninjured against the saints. He didn’t produce against the stinkin cats. So not really any difference if he is injured or not. If he produced consistently I would say it matters. But he doesn’t. So it doesn’t.

  9. WyomingJoe Says:

Getting sick and tired about Baker always being called inconsistent. Name three QBs in the League who have been consistent throughout the year. Mahomes and Allen certainly haven’t been “consistent.” Neither has Stafford or Hurts. And btw, you could argue that Baker had a better year than these four “all-stars!”

So, give it a break already. Especially you Baker Haters.

  10. kaimaru Says:

    @Capt.Tim

Donovan Smith gave up 5 sacks in 2020. Wirfs 1 this year and he’s not as good as Donovan? Wirfs had, what, 1 penalty? How many times was Donovan called holding in games in 2020?

  11. Since76 Says:

WhyJoe….so he played well these past two games???? Remember who baker has to throw to. And Smith isn’t protecting his blind side. Poor mahomes.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Wyoming

    Mayfield has been consistently mediocre.

He had 2 great games. 3-4 good games and a slew of mediocre to below mediocre games.

I believe Baker performed pretty well given the circumstances –

    – New OC
    – New system to learn
    – Worst interior O-line in the NFL
    – Only 1 real NFL RB
    – Only 1 real NFL TE
    – Weak running game

This is a team sport. It’s not all on Baker.

Baker Mayfield is who he is – a mediocre NFL QB. If he has a better supporting cast the Bucs could win more games with him at QB.

The major issue I have with BM is his accuracy issues when throwing the ball further than 12 yards downfield.

Regardless – I still believe BM is the best option for next season.

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

    Jack,
True. But if Baker doesnt play, and wirfs does- we will lose.
If Mayfield is healthy, and Wirfs doesnt play- we may still win.

    Thats my point.
If Mayfield doesnt play- the rest of the list is irrelevant.

  14. Usedtocould Says:

Please baby Jesus let baker be healthy and crush those dirty eagles.

  15. MegaFailure Says:

no chance in winning if wirfs doesn’t play, your point is meaningless

🙂 I see you were not on the injury report.

Your stupid takes are as healthy as ever.

  17. gotbbucs Says:

At this point, honestly, I’d rather have a healthy Trask than a banged up Mayfield. Mayfield historically can’t play through injuries. He’s not a talented enough QB to overcome. He’s got all the guts in the world to try to push through it, but he can’t produce.

    @WyomingJoe,
Mahomes and Allen can put a team on their back and carry them. Baker can’t. Good for you sticking up for him no matter what, and I don’t dislike him, but charisma and guts only goes so far in the NFL. These last two weeks has convinced me that he isn’t a franchise pillar QB.
Baker had a pretty good season, but he’ll have regression next season.

Baker Mayfield couldn’t even score a touchdown against the worst team in the league last week. We’d have a better chance of winning if Kyle Trask played and Triston Wirfs started.

Hard to hel in a week.

  20. Tony Marks Says:

    Jack Clark Says:

    —-

    based on what

    A) the assessment of the coaching staff that decline to put him in

    B) his 23 yards in ten attempts

    C) his 30% completion rate

    D) his loss in the SEC

  21. Lakeland Steve Says:

Maybe a lot of you boys will be getting your wish and your savior Trask will play. After we watch the game then everyone will probably understand why they didn’t want to play Trask to play at all.

  22. DoooshLaRue Says:

Please don’t bring up Durable Donnie.

  23. Duane in Sanford Says:

This fanbase has a history of deadpanning the quarterback. Not like there were many to write home about. The old goat may have been the only guy to meet approval. Nothing new here.

  24. Dom Says:

    @Captain Tim

If I had to choose I’d much rather have Wirfs play than Baker. Wirfs is an all pro tackle. That’s much harder to replace than an average QB. Especially when you got one of the best WR duos in the league going against one of the worst pass defenses in league. Also the Eagles strength on defense is their defensive line. You want all guys on deck on the O-Line. Going to be hard enough for the interior of the line

  25. unbelievable Says:

@WyomingJoe – no one who isn’t braindead is arguing Baker had better year than Josh Allen lol.

He had less turnovers. That’s it.

  26. Dom Says:

    @Tony Marks

You do realize that 9 of Trask 10 attempts was throwing to backups against a starting defense right? And the 10th throw was actually a pretty nice pass to CG, he just couldn’t get his feet down for the TD. Like that’s such a dishonest take. If I took that same small ass sample size for Baker to start the season he would be 5/10 for 27 yards. Should we have just stopped playing him after that?

And loss to the SEC? He lead the Gators to an SEC championship game and head to head against Bama in an SEC championship with a much less talented team.

Went 26/40 408 3 TD’s lol. Trask put up great stats against the SEC. I

I didn’t go to UF and don’t have any favorable basis towards him. Imo I don’t think we got the long term guy on the roster. However I do think he’s the better option this week compared to a hurt inconsistent average QB that blew chunks vs the Eagles earlier in the year. Couldn’t score more than 9 points vs the Panthers last week when C.J. freaking Beathard’s offense scored 26 the week before

  27. Toiletbowle Says:

Serious question! Not a baker or Kyle fan!
Having said that if Kyle gets his shot and does amazing are you baker fans gonna eat crow or say he just had a good game?

  28. BucaneroJim Says:

Bucs coaches have to like something in Trask, otherwise he would have been let go by now. Maybe someday he will get to play. Then maybe, he will be deemed mediocre and get dumped by three teams, like Baker.

  29. Tb bolts Says:

Doesnt matter. We all know baker is going to limp out there and “give it his all” which will probably amount to another anemic performance. Eagles are coming in confident despite their skid because they’ve already stomped Tampa this year. Good luck out there boys. Our only hope is the defense carrying like always.

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

BucaneroJim: If the Bucs coaching staff was actually impressed with Trask, he probably would’ve played. He was in for 1 actual play, and kneel downs. Does that sound like a player the coaching staff likes?

  31. Joe Says:

Joe, do we know what “illness” Wirfs has?

Flu? Bowles said last week he (Bowles) had a “bug” and he didn’t sound very good at the podium today.

    —-

NO DAVID. We might have eaten crow but you set the standard when you did not eat cow with Baker’s Perfect game in Green Bay. So you will just have to live with it. We’ll eat crow when he puts up 4500+ yards and is top four in TDs with 11 ints or less

Don’t forget traskies – its about consistency and not being “mid” …….. remember?

P.S. if you are going to pretend to be someone else at least change your vocab – like you do for your other ten accounts

  33. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

Before we played Philly the last time, they were coming off an NFC championship and were picked to be the favorite in the NFC again. We had 2 games under our belt with:

A new QB, new OC, revamped o-line AND we hadn’t figured out that White could be a weapon in the passing game yet.

On defense we got hammered by their running game an they racked up over 400 yards of total offense. BUT we didn’t have YaYa and Kancey contributing yet AND they still only put up 25 points.

Their run game has declined and our run D has improved. Our QB pressure has also improved. The last 2 games our offense, well, it stunk. BUT we saw what they are capable of in the 2 games prior. Philliy’s pass rush is still good but nowhere near as good as it was last year or early in the season when we played them and our pass pro has improved.

If the coaching is on and the players play up to their potential, we can win this game. We match up well with them now. Mayfield will probably still be sore, but Hurts has a bad finger on his throwing hand and it’s likely to get banged up a few times throughout the game affecting his grip and accuracy. I smell a pick or 2 maybe even a pick-6 since I believe he’ll be looking to get the ball out quickly if we get good pressure.

    Go Bucs!!!!!!

    @Tony Marks

You do realize that 9 of Trask 10 attempts was throwing to backups against a starting defense right?

    ———-

All NFL caliber players not college players who didn’t make it to the NFL. Your point? Yes its a small sample size. So do all small sample guys turn out to then be NFL playoff game winners? I asked you for the basis for saying trask give a better chance – not your excuses.

    ———
And the 10th throw was actually a pretty nice pass to CG, he just couldn’t get his feet down for the TD.
    ———-

It was the wrong read. Godwin could not both keep separation from his defender and get his feet down at the same time with that limited space. Maybe on Pluto the physics are different but Trask decided to make the play on plane t Earth. He had another receiver becoming open to his left but his lack of mobility and feeling the pocket made him not able to wait on him

I know. Ain’t it a bii-yatch when the same level of critique is applied to your preferred QB. Welcome to what it will be like when Trask plays. His fans earned him no less – at least here

    ————-
Like that’s such a dishonest take. If I took that same small ass sample size for Baker to start the season he would be 5/10 for 27 yards. Should we have just stopped playing him after that?
    ———-

and a Qb that rode the pine for three years and was deemed at one point not even worthy of QB2 having a better chance against the eagles is an honest take? What a dishonest soul you are . You didn’t even mention Baker’s injury in your earlier assessment of his last game. You just snuck it on now because you got slapped with facts. So spare the lecture on honesty till you have credentials on that character trait.

    ———
And loss to the SEC? He lead the Gators to an SEC championship game and head to head against Bama in an SEC championship with a much less talented team.
    —-

He lost the Championship , Cry me a river. He was a loser when it mattered.

    ——–
    inconsistent average QB
    ———

I Like that you nitwits always leave out backup QBs – you know where your guy rides pine – out of the maths of “average”

Meanwhile back it the math educated world the average NFL team has 3 QBs. SO saying a QB ranked int he top half of the league is average is true ….only if you put all the back ups in a building with a few starters and blow it up

  35. Conner50 Says:

    @Tony Marks
“He was a loser when it mattered “
Im gonna remember that one for you when your god baker losses this postseason. Also proves you don’t know nothing about trask or his time at Florida, because anyone who watched knows the defense lost them the game not the offense. Can’t tell you nothing though your boy baker is the best quarterback in the nfl in your head. Get real he’s mediocre

So you agree that since he’s so hurt that he couldn’t prefom vs the Panthers shouldn’t play this weel right? Since he only lead the team to 9 points and played terrible while again C.J Betherd lead his team to 26 points the week before. If Baker is saying he’s good enough to be out there I don’t want to hear that he’s hurt as an excuse.

Also, I did mention he was hurt in thst post “However I do think he’s the better option this week compared to a hurt inconsistent average QB that blew chunks vs the Eagles earlier in the year.” Emphasis on the hurt part Tony.

  40. Eric Says:

“Joe, do we know what “illness” Wirfs has?”

I’m surrounded by people with colds and COVID it’s bad out there.

  44. Allbuccedup Says:

Bowles says Wirfs has a cold you don’t miss practice with a cold. Hes probably got the flu or rsv you will never get a straight answer out of Bowles.

  45. orlbucfan Says:

Unless Mr. Wirfs is dying/or infected with Covid, there is NO way he’s MIA Monday night. Are you kidding?? As far as the QB situation goes, I want the healthiest players starting against Philly. I want my Bucs to WIN! I don’t care if it’s BM, Trask or ya-who-dee. There’s a lot of flu, RSV, and Covid going around, BTW. I’m vaccinated up the wazoo, retired, and live like a hermit which I’m grateful for as I haven’t gotten sick. Go Bucs!!!!!

  46. SteveK Says:

    Tony Marks,

    Astounding!

How can you “know” what Trask is after no action with the “1’s”, but claim that Baker Mayfield is a franchise level QB?

    Just wow!

How can you pass judgement on someone, with conviction, when they are truly an “unknown”, while also breaking out a pedestal for a mediocre QB?

Without being able to ask you, or request the logic, I have to assume it is bc you are “emotionally invested”
In Baker. There is not other logical solution, hence the nickname “Baker Bois”.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    P.s. happy Friday!
