Falcons Hunting Bill Belichick

January 8th, 2024

Falcons owner Arthur Blank canned his head coach.

So the 7-10 Falcons launched their head coach, run-first Artie Smith, and allegedly are chasing a legend to replace him.

NFL insider Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com fired the knowledge on X this morning. “Bill Belichick is still the head coach in New England but the Atlanta Falcons are a team to watch if Belichick is available. They are interested, per sources,” she wrote.

Joe was intrigued because last week Josina Anderson of CBS wrote that two NFC South teams are exploring making a run at Belicheat, who remains under contract to the Patriots but is expected to be fired.

A team might have to trade for Belicheat, though Joe suspects creepy Robert Kraft, the Patriots owner, would not stop Belicheat from moving on.

Who is the other team?

Joe can’t imagine the Panthers thinking Belicheat would want to be in Charlotte. He’s chasing 15 wins to catch Don Shula for the most in NFL history, so a complete rebuild job is horrible fit for a 71 year old coach — for the team and the coach.

The Saints (9-8) seem content with Dennis Allen.

Joe’s concern is the Falcons hiring Belichick and signing Baker Mayfield in free agency.

Signing Bellicheat would be a classic Arthur Blank miscalculation.

    I hope it happens.

  2. Ateonetree Says:

I truly think Baker would want to stay with us. I could see the falcons going after Kirk cousins .

  3. WiscoJoe Says:

Let them have Belichick, especially if he’s going to be their GM as well like he is in New England. He can’t pick players if his career depended on it.

Also, his offenses have been terrible as of late so his hiring doesn’t scare me. What scares me is Todd Bowles and Dave Canales. I can’t stand this run first mentality and our lack of playing man coverage/having corners play 10 yards off the receivers on 3rd and short. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

  4. SB~LV Says:

    We have our own problems

  5. NE Fan Says:

Bowles worst nightmare!!! Belichick sucks as a GM but a true D mastermind. 9 out of 14 games lost by one or less scores.

  6. Rick Says:

Bill B in Atlanta with McDaniels and that offense… there’s a lot to work with. Now they need a QB still

  7. Not Says:

I don’t know that I want to have to face a Belicheat defense twice per year !
Lattimore has shut down ME13 for years, having a coach that is always successful taking away your number 1 would be painful.
But if he is left in charge of offense it may be a good thing.
Without Brady the dude has a losing record.

  8. Ramblin_Man Says:

The Athletic is reporting the BB has reached out to people about the Panthers HC position.

  9. NE Fan Says:

Not@ Pats went 10-7 in 2021 and made PO’s with a rookie QB.

  10. LVMYBUCS Says:

What does it take for the Glazers to realize Bowles is not going to take us to the SB ever.

  11. Jack Clark Says:

Hopefully the Falcons hire Bill Belichick so we can beat him twice a year, 4-13 what a joke

  12. Tbbucs3 Says:

Belichick to Atlanta guarantees 3 wins

  13. Joseph C Simmons Says:

The Falcons have a lot of talent. It sure seemed like Arthur Smith was wasting it. It boggles my mind how a generational tight end like Kyle Pitts was being completely ignored in that offense. Belichick taking over in Atlanta and having Josh McDaniels take over the offense would be a scary proposition for us Bucs fans.

  14. Fred Says:

    Is Bowles gone yet?

  15. BucsFan Says:

Bellicheat wants 27 more wins to break Don Shulas’ record and he does not care how he gets them. Bill will require 4-6 years to accomplish that on a team that is in rebuild mode , but maybe only 3 or 4 years on a more talented squad like Tampa Bay.

  16. Boss Says:

Let him go to Atlanta…… Tampa will be the new york jets in the nfc south after resigning mayfield and keeping toilet bowl.

The fan base deserves it if they can’t see past this easy schedule and stacked roster.

The issue here is luck has shined upon the bucs this year while the team and fans think. In interviewing ters the bucs are the best of a bad lot.

  17. Fansince76 Says:

I think and hope Bakers stays with the Buc’s.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

I happen to respect Arthur Blank. I don’t know if he’s a GA native, but he has kept the Falcons in Atlanta. He’s no dummy and he won’t hire Belicheat. The Falcons are improving and rebuilding. Blank also keeps game tix prices reasonable, so fans in our income group can afford them. Glazers don’t. Falcons have never won a Stupid Bowl so if I live long enough, and that happens, I will salute Blank.

  19. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

There is no money to be made betting on offseason moves by any team, let alone the Bucs. Who knows what will happen?

  20. Steven007 Says:

orl, we are right there with the falcons at the bottom of all 32 franchises in terms of ticket price. Here are the teams with the best average ticket prices:

    Atlanta Falcons: $225
    Houston Texans: $236
    Arizona Cardinals: $250
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers: $263
    Tennessee Titans: $265

There are 27 teams above this list who all have higher average ticket prices than this group does.

  21. Tye Says:

Sad reality is, whoever Blank hires will surely be better than Bowels!

  22. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Gurgles is back cuz his team SUCKS

  23. Boss Says:

this is why I do not go to games
    Atlanta Falcons: $225
    Houston Texans: $236
    Arizona Cardinals: $250
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers: $263
    Tennessee Titans: $265

At that price just it would cost me a grand for 3 people to go. I could not imagine hoe pissed I would be if the bucs played the way they do and I payed to wacth. Even this year…every game I have watched hs put me to a nap by halftime. Don’t even compare this team to Arians and Brady. That was fun to watch. now….not so much would be an understatement. horrible football all around and celebrated when they win to horrible teams. This offense is bland on a good day.

  24. orlbucfan Says:

007, is that price per nosebleed single seat or season tix? Still $38 cheaper than Tampa.

  25. NE Fan Says:

You clowns are comical. 2020 post Brady 7-9, 2021 10-7 playoffs, 2023 8-9 same record as Bowles. In 2019 Pre-Brady with BA, 7-9. So BA 2 winning seasons with Brady losing without and Bowles 1-1 against the garbage of the league.

then the man is a master at losing nowadays since if your opponent has less than one more score it usually a tie. or you are winning.

    Us clowns know the year

and that your record is 4-13

Check out Belichick’s won loss record without Brady…… 84-101

  29. Nfl24 Says:

Bill belichek is still with Patriots. Falcons are not hunting him. Please stop with fake hearsay news

  30. Winny Testaverde Says:

Unless he comes with a 30 year old Brady…it won’t be successful. So do it, Blank Check!

  31. NE Fan Says:

    Careful what you wish for!!!

“Not@ Pats went 10-7 in 2021 and made PO’s with a rookie QB.”

Noted! And that was certainly an improvement over the 7-9 LOSING record the season before without the GOAT.

Oh and also ‘noted”. BB and that “rookie QB” ended up going 8-9 the following season and then this year’s majestic 4-13!!! Geez…seems like a trend there eh?

  33. Rod Munch Says:

What a sissy punk, getting mad because the Saints played for 60 minutes while his team was lasy and did not. That alone probably got him fired, that and the hissy fit he threw.

  34. ATLBuc Says:

That would be a dream come true for me if the Falcons sign Mayfield!!

    ——-

Mine too, sign him to a big Derek Carr like deal – then you got the Saints and Falcons with terrible QB contracts that help cripple their teams. I’d love to see it happen.

  36. Since76 Says:

^^^^^ Man if Atlanta took Mayfield and Belichick that would be awesome. Double blow to a division rival. 5 of 6 games Mayfield will be around 50yrds passing with 0 points. Game pretty much over. Lol

They didn’t. They were in kneel down formation, and the punk Jameis called a punk audible to run up the score against the head coach’s wish.

You wanna run up the score? Fine. Line up properly and don’t act like a b***h.

No way you seriously are will to pay a .500 qb 25-30 million a year plus
Need to worry more about keeping Winfield, Evans and a few others. Baker has played about as well as he could…,,. Sorry in the big picture it’s not good enough. Nothing personal against baker. What kind of terrible coach plays an admitted injured qb and has two healthy qbs sitting. Especially after seeing baker’s absolute crap performance yesterday. How you can talk about giving a guy that kind of money. Seriously threw for 137 yards. 0td should have been 2-3 interceptions if Carolina could catch.

  39. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bill’s persona won’t hit the same in the A-T-L.

  40. Rod Munch Says:

UKBuccaneer – We get it, you’re angry because Mayfield can’t get a TD vs the worst team in football in an entire game, and Winston gets a TD in one play.

The only whiny pansies are the ones crying about the other team playing 60, while the Falcons were busy booking their vacations to Jamaica.

Literally the only thing I liked about Schiano was when he forced his players to play 60 minutes, and not just let the other team take a knee.

With Baker, it just comes down to the Eagles game in my opinion. If he goes out and plays well and beats them, then the Bucs are basically obligated to bring him back. I’m not a fan of Baker (see anywhere for proof), however if the guy comes to a team that isn’t expected to be good, and gets them into the playoffs and wins a game, there’s very little chance you’re letting that guy walk – and any starting QB is going to get more than $30m a year.

I will agree, however, you get Evans and Winfield done first, because there’s literally no reason to bring Baker without Evans out there making insane catches to make him look like an acceptable QB. It’s remarkable how good Evans is, he even made Mike Glennon look good – or at least capable.

With that said, if Baker bombs again on MNF, loses the game, finishes the year with three duds in a row in pressure situations, then there is no way in the world he should be back.

You know nothing about football, it’s clear.

The victory formation has unwritten rules about it. I’m with Shannon Sharpe on this – Jameis should be cut for that punk move.
