Bucs Will Have To Be Road Warriors (For At Least One Game)

January 15th, 2024

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

For the Bucs, the road to Las Vegas goes through Detroit. And maybe San Francisco, too.

Without trying to get ahead of Joe’s skis, Joe sees what is in front of the Bucs if the Bucs win tonight.

A victory against the Eagles and the road to Las Vegas and the Super Bowl is fairly clear. A win sends the Bucs traveling to Detroit for a 3 p.m. game Sunday to face the Lions.

The Bucs already lost to the Lions in Week 6, 20-6. That was the first of two games in which the Bucs scored in the single digits.

If the Bucs somehow face and beat the Lions next weekend, the only way the Bucs can have another home game would be for the Packers to upset the 49ers next weekend.

Because the Bucs are a division champ, they could host the wild card Packers in the NFC Championship. So the Bucs have a shot at another home game. Joe understands the Bucs beat the Packers 34-20 last month.

The only time the Bucs hosted an NFC championship was in 1979, a loss to the Rams 9-0. So no, The Licht House has never held an NFC title game.

But first, it’s Philadelphia, who the Bucs also beat at home twice in the postseason — in 1979, 24-17, and January 2022, 31-15, at home in the wild card round.

  1. Buddha Says:

Wait just a second. When the Buccaneers torched the Packers, we were told the Packers suck. Something is wrong with this picture.

  2. Crickett Baker Says:

Yah–the eyes of the people who are looking at it.

  3. SB Says:

So when we shut down the VET it was regular season? Maybe I have CRS Joe.

  4. Trask To The Future Says:

    START KYLE TRASK!

    IT’S OUR ONLY HOPE!

  5. Dave Pear Says:

Todd only has one playoff game a year when he’s a raging success for his abilities.

It will be Bucs to start with the ball.

Two runs behind Hainsey for -3 yards with the second from shotgun where White gets buried by an a gap blitz as he takes the handoff. 3rd and 13 Baker sacked.

Todd then practices defensive ball control. Force the Eagles to go on an 8 minute 82 yard TD drive to shorten the game.

Second possession, run run pass short of the line to gain, punt.

Repeat. Todd and Mike McCarthy might be good together in the home building business.

  6. James Mattz Says:

The bucs have the most predictable scheme on both sides of the ball in the NFL. The eagles will beat the brakes off the Bucs and take us our our misery and while you’re at it take Bowles with you.

  7. Mac Says:

Wow Dave Pear that literally and legitimately sounds like the scripted start to the game. Every last word of it. Sad but very very true!

  8. MadMax Says:

We got this mfers….so sick of you nancy boys here…..so stupid but go ahead

  9. heyjude Says:

We can win tonight and beat the Lions next week. Not a Packers fan, and if all the scenarios play out, hope the Packers upset the 49ers next weekend.

  10. Tb bolts Says:

The day is upon us. Let the battle of the baker brigade and the cult of kyle Trask begin.

  11. BucU Says:

Just come out with your hair on fire for once. I’ll be watching Canales play calling very closely. Throw early. Throw often.

  12. Colonel Angus Says:

Bucs are 3-2 vs Philly in the playoffs, our most common playoff opponent. Let’s get #4 tonight, Go Bucs!

  13. Bojim Says:

    Gird your loins!

  14. Usedtocould Says:

    Two things:
    Pear, that was amazing.
Joe, I think we should really focus on the afc and who we’re going to play in the chip

  15. D Cone Says:

Don’t think that there was on NFC team that has played so far that the Bucs could have beaten this week, Be glad they drew Philly.

  16. Fred Says:

    Bring Gruden back.

  17. Tim Says:

Go BUCS! Whip that Eagle ass tonight! Like the song says, “Make the Eagles walk the plank and throw em in Tampa Bay!” Oh for you nouveau fake Buc fans who always piss and moan no matter how well the Bucs do, you haven’t been around long enough to remember that fight song. Remember this as Baker or Kyle do their job and lead us to victory in these playoffs, we weren’t supposed to be here. Great job BUCS! Great job Coach Bowles!

  18. Bosch Says:

Leave it to the NFL to schedule a Monday night playoff game out of greed thereby creating an inequity in preparation time for the team that wins this game. I am surprised they didn’t make it a Saturday game.

  19. Oxycondomns Says:

At least bucs faced lions earlier in year and bucs will at least have had some previous preparation but one step at a time bucs needs to show the nfc east is the weakest division in football

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Dave Pear is a fake fan, yahoo. For Tim:

“Hey, hey, hey, we’re the Buccaneers.
Ho, ho, ho, we’re the Buccaneers.
    Offense, Defense, Special Teams, Hooray!!
Make the Eagles walk the plank.
    Throw ’em in Tampa Bay!!”

I’m surprised I still remember the words. Go Bucs!!

  21. RustyRhinos Says:

THE ONLY ROAD GAME THE BUCS HAVE IS AT TAMPA STADIUM!!!
You NEVER look past the opponent in front of you. Play to WIN THIS GAME!!!! Not be concerned about how we will need to be ROAD WARRIORS!!!{RIP} We need to win this game first, then be thinking about going anyplace else…

    Bucs 34- Eagles 17

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

If Green Bay upset Dallas, then we should take heed and go out there like wild dogs and just ball out. We shall see what kind of heart our Bucs have tonight. Win or go home.

  23. Shane Callahan Says:

“Start Kyle Trask; it’s our only hope.” Bwahahahaha

It still amazes me how some fans think they know way more than the professionals who are in meetings with these guys every day and watch them practice every day.

    Go Baker and go Bucs!

  24. Shane Callahan Says:

Truth be told, if Baker can’t go, I imagine they’d put Woolford in.

  25. captivajim Says:

the bucs will be at hooters next sunday to watch the Lions-Eagles game

  26. Esteban85 Says:

I’m worried we have some sort of tell to our offense. I know this sounds ridiculous because of course we have a tell on tape, it’s run, run, pass, punt, or at least that is the trend but I’m afraid we have a tell at the LOS. Something giving away everything. We look very predictable in run plays and snap count. Detroit & Philly were simply blowing us off the line earlier this year.

  27. AlwaysABucsFan Says:

GO BUCS!!! They can beat this Philly team! And yes! Make them walk the plank and throw em in Tampa Bay!! (I sing the song for every BUCS game!) 🙂

  28. Dave Pear Says:

Oralyukfan looks good in her Pom Poms and tights. She’s proud being happy about Bucs performance no matter how hard Todd blows it. Probably stood up and applauded after the Texans went 75 yards in 38 seconds, or how the Rams drove for the winning FG in 35 seconds. She was happy despite’s Todd ruining Brady’s amazing comeback.

Rah rah Oralyuc. You go girl!
