Was Rachaad White Too Heavy?

December 17th, 2023

In-season weight loss.

No, this is nothing quite like DonutGate with Leonard “Playoff Lenny” Fournette during the 2022 preseason, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

Rachaad White has turned into a hell of a weapon in the passing game, and he’s coming on as a capable running back.

White had 139 yards from scrimmage today in the Bucs’ dominant 34-20 win in Green Bay — 21 rushes for 89 yards and two catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. The young man is cruising toward about 335 touches this season, a monster number.

So what clicked for White? Well, there are a lot of things, but a newer one emerged today during the CBS telecast.

Announcers shared that White entered last offseason trying to get stronger so he could play about five pounds heavier than in 2022. Mission accomplished. However, it was explained that White didn’t like how he felt with the extra muscle early this season and proceeded to work with trainers to drop five pounds.

He hit his goal, White told the CBS crew, and he’s feeling better and has gained a lot of confidence. Former Pro Bowl running back Tiki Barber was on the game call and explained that while might not be faster, if he feels faster and more confident, then that should translate to improvement on the field.

Last Sunday in the locker room, White explained to Joe how he’s invested $60,000 and counting into his body and it’s paying off.

Keep grinding away, Rachaad!

Christian McCaffrey who? Rachaad White is turning the corner at the perfect time!from here on out I expect teams to try and shut him down but lucky for us he can catch out the backfield as well. Dual threat RB?Yes Please!

  2. All_da_way Says:

Licht may have hit it big with White. Imagine if the Bucs draft a stud OL in round 1 of 24 and add another two way TE to pair with Otton?

  3. Bucsfan951 Says:

His numbers and performance is definitely improving as the season progresses. That is no doubt! But am I the only one who thinks that he is a very slow runner between the tackles? He just doesn’t have the cut and burst of speed. It seems to have gotten a little better over the last few weeks but he is still very slow.

  4. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Yup, I think I’m done calling him “Cha Cha White.” I’m becoming a believer, in the air and on the ground.

  5. Truth5 Says:

I hope this is the new normal. Bucs look like the 49ers for a sec or last year’s Seahawks. The run threat must have opened the seem routes down the middle or the Packers defense is really bad. How Jaire Alexander gone made that much of a difference is beyond me?

  6. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Since White started getting involved in the passing game you can see his confidence started growing. When your confidence is up, you stop pressing and trying to prove yourself and you just start making the plays you know you can make. It has carried over to the running game as the blocking and scoring has improved.

  7. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jack Clark, I owe you an apology. Your posts about White used to piss me off, when I didn’t think he had “it.” I think he has “it” now. He’s also durable as hell.

  8. realistic-optimistic Says:

But he didn’t get 100 on the ground, Joe! lol (just poking fun at you)

  9. SB~LV Says:

    No !
But if he thinks he’s better now at the present weight let him believe it.
IMO it’s more attitude, confidence and the OL playing as a unit

Bucs need a true fullback. They still around?

The fat boy can catch…..that’s for sure……I think we have a keeper.

Rod Munch is awful quiet today.

LOL I owe the Baker Mayfield fans an apology 😂 I like to formally apologize for doubting your grace, Baker Mayfield, and thank him for throwing 4 touchdown passes to keep us in first place against the Green Bay Packers

the way he caught the reception, sorta stopped on a dime, for the mini juke, and then went into the end zone…

our rb1 is really settling in as an nfl well rounded back…

the line is def opening up more holes for him as well…

and he’s coming of age…he came into the nfl as a smiley giddy college kid…and now he’s a young man who’s starting to snarl…

he really just might be “that guy”

  15. adam from ny Says:

yeah where is rod the rug muncher ? 🙂

Years of playing Madden against random people on the internet gave me a good eye for talent 😂

  17. adam from ny Says:

also zyon was a super smiley giddy kid last year…

he’s becoming a really nice piece…i think they really hit on that late pick…

in the next year or so they could potentially part with dean or cd3 if they think it’s the right move…

heck, is anyone even missing smb ?

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Nothing clicked – he’s been this good all along. The difference is the line is getting some better blocking, and the OC is doing a better job with the calls.

He looked like this last year, he looked like this in September. He’s been a very good RB this entire time.

  19. adam from ny Says:

    there he is….rod-digity-dogg !

also i agree…blocking and better play calling

  20. Boss Says:

    What munch said!

  21. adam from ny Says:

the only play call i didn’t like at a certain particular time was the thompkins end round…(early first half)

i almost think we over use it…and teams literally prepare for that little rascal whipping around the end 🙂

less might be more with that play

  22. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jack, thanks for coming clean on Baker. I’ve been ambivalent all along, but he deserves a lot of love after today. Also, dude is super competitive. Just had a Browns fan, who is a good buddy of mine, who said he was happy to see Baker bake today.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

I wish he’d stop going down at the end of the game. If he scores at the end of the last 3 games, he has 3 more TD’s, and is now 4 games in a row over 100 yards, and his average is higher, so the Joe that White, has one less fake talking point to talk about.

Yeah, he had, by far, his best day ever today. If he can do it again for the next 3 weeks – doesn’t have to be this good obviously, but much better than he’s played the rest of the year, he’s going to the Bucs in the playoffs and made himself a ton of money.

I hope he can keep it up, because if he’s anything close to as hot as he was today, the Bucs would have a chance in the playoffs.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

I fell asleep at my dinner room table @ the half. Had Bucs Radio on iPad. I just had a strong vibe that they would win. Canales came through. He called plays that all 4 receivers delivered on: ME13, CG14, Otton and White. White was lethal. Jax’s DC has 7 days to figure it out. I like Jax. I don’t like Miami. The Bucs’OLine deserves praise, too. The O outplayed the D. You know how rare THAT is? I am beyond giddy. 🙂 Bring on the Jags.

  26. Oneilbuc Says:

The only thing I don’t like about Rashard White is he when he runs and just gives himself up for the team. He’s needs to get his yards and tds because their going to use that against him when it comes to his new contract. He should have scored on that last run . Get your money Rashard White!!!

  27. 1#bucsfan Says:

Can 6 play like this every game. Dude was great out there. Few times he held the ball to long. Gotta throw it away sometimes. I’m not a hater but he’s just not consistent but whatever it was they need to keep doing what they did today.

    LOL – “fell asleep”.

Dude- thats called passing out from alcohol consumption…..

  29. Pickgrin Says:

I said before the season that White would blow up this year and have over 1500 combined yards.

Took a bit longer than I thought – but White is definitely blowing up the last 4 weeks and 1500+ yards looks like its gonna happen….
