Rachaad White Becoming A Force In The Pass Game

December 12th, 2023

Dangerous in open field.

Looks can be deceiving. And so has been Bucs running back Rachaad White.

Two days removed from Sunday’s win, just about all “this Joe” remembers is the Bucs pounding White between the tackles for basically nothing — until something got into Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales.

The first-year Bucs playcaller suddenly (finally?) decided to run White outside of left tackle Tristan Wirfs in the second half. That 12-yard run seemed to ignite White.

The second-year running back also hauled in a 31-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown in the third quarterback that put the Bucs up 19-10.

White has turned into a weapon in the passing game, lethal in the open field. Yet the Bucs think he’s Mike Alstott pounding him time and again between the tackles.

It’s to the point that Joe is starting to think White’s taking too much punishment (those are hard runs inside — those aren’t 210-pound corners, those are 350-pound tackles). But man, in the passing game White is totally dangerous.

But yeah, why use White and his legs outside or in the pass game where he has a legit shot to take it to the house and score or at least move the chains. Who needs that when the Bucs can slam him between the tackles to set up third-and-long?

Here’s a stat Joe bet you didn’t know. Only two running backs who have more receiving yards than White’s 419. They would be Christian McCaffrey (437) and Breece Hall (435). Alvin Kamara is the only other running back to have over 400 yards receiving (402).

The way White clowns defenders in the open field, Joe just drools at the idea of putting him at slot full-time.

So finally, after all of this time, Bowles has finally figured out how to use White.
    GENIUS!!!!!!!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t put him at slot…..shift him to the slot sometimes from his back position.

White is a good player……block for him.

  3. EEK Says:

he was the best Bucs player last Sunday
    he has some real speed
good call getting him the ball in space — that is where he has done a ton of damage

  4. Popcorn Mike Says:

White has been a force all year in the pass game, they just didn’t go to him. Who do I blame here? Canales, Mayfield or both. As Evans said a few weeks ago. This team is too talented to have the record that they have

  5. godlovesbucs Says:

Dude has a legit shot to have 1000 rushing and 500 receiving. Behind a sus o line.

  6. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

We need to draft another Lagarette Blount like back to add to White. 2 headed monster. Get another blue chip lineman and we can roll with what we have next year in year 2 of the offense.

  7. HC Grover Says:

4 games to go. This can break up or down.

  8. Eckwood Says:

No Slot , he’s not a route runner but he can catch and is a good 3 rd down back but please let Edmunds get more time and his numbers will be as good or prob better than Whites ……. White just can’t get skinny in the holes and just doesn’t accelerate with meaning !! Edmonds is just a way better runner !! BTW he can catch also , maybe not as well as White but he for sure is a better, quicker better upfield runner !! Edmunds is legit he just can’t stay healthy . Q

  9. Boss Says:

    @grover

it will break up…….because they are finally passing.

there is now a real threat that on at least 1 out of 3 plays they will not run him into the back of the center

“Outside! Get outside!” Like talking to the dog.

  11. WyomingJoe Says:

The question is: What QB has thrown more TDs so far this year than Jackson, Hurts, Lawrence and Stafford? The answer is Baker Mayfield. Add the 3 TDs that WERE DROPPED and Baker would be in the TOP 3 in the NFL. Fix the O-Line and Baker is a Top 8 QB next year.

    Keep winning Baker.

  12. StickinUp4Centers Says:

They constantly run between the tackles for 2 yards but when they needed 2 yards on a 4th down, they got cute and pitched it for a -5 yard loss. I think the pitch could be a good play for White, just not when the D is selling out for the run.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

    WyomingJoe, solid.

  14. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

I am convinced this site is filled with trolls with the amount of Baker Mayfield haters. I love Brady, but any time someone got within 5 feet of him, he tossed the ball into the ground last year. That was nauseating. Baker has been playing very well considering a new offense, new OC, suspect line play at times, and an underwhelming defense.

I say sign him for 2024 if we’re not blowing it up.

  15. godlovesbucs Says:

Blount was a huge small back. He had trouble with the short yardage runs too… Loved the guy, but his weakness was similar to white. He tended to get cute instead of being a big 1 cut back.

  16. Tony Marks Says:

I’ll eat humble pie as a detractor of his – he ain’t looking too bad recently running the ball either. Dare I say it?

Canales might have been right all along

Maybe fans don’t know everything like we think they do

  17. RagingBrisket Says:

Dude looks like he is stuck in the mud when he gets handed the ball behind the los. He has no burst, acceleration or power. Okay a pass catcher out of the backfield but should never be handed the ball again.

  18. Beeej Says:

I loved Blount, was furious when we let him walk

  19. Beeej Says:

    The Fighting Schianoes Says:

I think that crap is rampant here, people posting with a different name several times per thread, but it doesn’t seem to bother the Joes

  20. WyomingJoe Says:

The Fighting Schianoes: Well said… TROLLS GALORE!

    Keep winning Baker.

  21. RGA Says:

White has been Bakers best friend, dump it off to him on a 5 yard swing pass and watch him run. This of course shows up as Mayfield passing ( which is lacking) yards when in reality Mayfield is down right terrible throwing beyond 10 yards.

  22. WyomingJoe Says:

RGA: Nice try. Nice Trolling. Your analysis is limited on Baker. Do your homework.

    ^^^^^^

Hopefully Baker Mayfield will throw more than two touchdowns a game so we can make the playoffs

    @godlovesBucs –

While he was with us- yes.

But as soon as he went to the Pats , suddenly he was a great short yardage back. And suddenly his terrible hands became great at catching passes. So much so that he even started returning kicks too.

Funny how that works, isn’t it? It’s almost like… coaching matters.

    “I’ll eat humble pie”

That’s truly impressive on this site!!! I mean that without snark. It’s the inability to do that which is driving a lot of the Mayfield sucks drivel.

I’ll join you…I certainly choked on humble pie after supporting wasting an over #1 pick in the draft on Fameis Jameis. I was totally wrong!! A career that almost poetically began with a pick six on his first pass and concluded with a pick six on his final pass for the Bucs.

It takes a man to admit mistakes…some here…rhymes with lunch..just can’t eat that humble pie…they choke on it…bad for the mental digestion and leads to specious posts.

  26. Sir Fresh Says:

The same way they play McCaffrey, he didn’t play worth crap in Carolina, he went to 49ers they use him as a receiver. Do the same, running in gaps don’t work pass him the b all.

Whose “we”? – You haven’t acted like a bucs fan all season. Don’t bother trying to jump on the band wagon now.

oh Lawdie don’t start me on Mush. The high priest of the Kyle Cult who is on record saying (to paraphrase)

“Rbs are not needed in the nfl because its 2023”
“you can run the ball in the air”
“I am good with the Qb getting injured to develop a lineman because it suits my love of trask”

“Dime touchdown passes against NFl defense are what any high school player QB can do”

and every week he tries to change his predicitons by a game so he can can lie later that he was always on target.

IF he’s typing he is ether lying or showing his total incompetence on all things NFL.

He is good for several laughs a day though.

He should be used the same way the 49ers use Debo . Smaller Dbs want nothing to do with White in the open field and he is lethal
